Wooohooo! Thanks to the instructions in here, I finished bike school with all golds in twenty minutes of real time, max, including a run to a safehouse to save the golds in everything (in case it locked up; Murphy's Law) before the supposedly dreaded jump & stoppie. Thanks to everyone who's contributed observations--they rock, and you rock.

I noticed that the game is indeed very lenient on what it calls a stoppie after the jump. If your front wheel comes down first, you did a stoppie, period. What I found tricky was crouching the right percentage of the run so that I'd land in the right place. The stoppie test before that was actually hairier; it took pretty careful timing to ride the stoppie through those cones without losing control.

Now I'll go pay my way by answering some more noob questions that you've all already answered twenty times and are totally sick of replying to. Thanks again.

Jesus Christ.. I've done all the schools on gold, and have one thing left. That one thing? Flying Fish.

If you haven't got Flying Fish yet, this may help. I just did it last night, so it's fresh in my mind.

It is very important to know where to turn and begin your run; you have lots of time. Just past the docks, between them and the bridge support, is a tall wall with extruded sides. First head for this, angled right so that a hard left (let off the throttle while you hang a hard turn) aims you at the radar dots--that will be a straight approach. Now lay on it, watching your course, begrudging last-minute adjustments that cost you speed.

Nose down into the ramp, and as you reach your high point, haul way back on the stick. This craft literally catches air: it will spend longer airborne if you avoid nosing down early. When you see your boat beginning to descend, as close to the end as possible, stick forward so your nose is the first point of contact. A good run and skillful use of the air cushion are everything.

Burn and Lap was the hardest test ever.

It's odd that alot of people said "Destroy Targets" was hard in the pilot school. I got a 93% on my first try. The 90 was another cinch for me. Just luck for me, and they should simplify "Jump and Stoppie" for the PC. If you thought getting a gold on City Slickers was hard, try this for gold. City Slickers is annoyingly difficult, because Taxis and Cabbies are in the way, and one hit from them, kiss your gold medal goodbye. Annoying as it is...

What makes Jump and Stoppie so hard? Yes, you control the best bike in the game, but chances are you will delve into the ground when you land, losing your bike - and this. If you beat this with a gold medal on your first try, you are the SA master, period. I got a nothing on my first try.

The Circle Airstrip and Land mission at flight school is proving tough for me. It's not just the landing, which is difficult but doable; it's not just the coronas, which are very easy to miss in which case you may as well hit something besides water. I want 100%, and will keep at it until I get it.

It's time. I'm no expert on flight, but I understand the basic physics of stalls, what happens to your airspeed/groundspeed (seem to be the same here, unless there's wind I don't know about) when you dive and climb, and so forth. Somehow I need to get this crate down quicker than I have been, down around 80s.

I am trying to be efficient in the air, which is where I think this battle will be won: beginning my bank toward the next corona as soon as I can do so, trying to avoid loss of momentum through sloppy moves, and above all avoiding climbing above the next corona or diving below its plane. I am sure that my sloppy approaches to the landing zone are part of my problem, and there I'm trying not to overcontrol--but it seems if you don't land hot enough you'll lose out on time.

So that I don't jostle my final by having to stab R3 at about the lousiest possible time, I've been gearing down on the way to the last corona. In real life this would cost me some speed; does anyone else do this? Any suggestions or comments about speed from those who have gone gold? It's not like I'm far from gold; my best runs are 96% and 98%. Cut a little time off this somehow and I can go on to doing something I like, such as hosing sh*t down with the Hunter.

In the meantime I figured out the problem with Circle and Land: it was the gear drag, all right.

Now I'm rassling with the Loop the Loop. What a pain in the ass! The game cancels the mission on me half the time before I can get reoriented and aim for the corona, and I never know why so I don't learn what was so rotten about that particular run. Can anyone offer any wisdom on how best to level off coming out of the loop (I'm always too low, and the plane is nimble but not very forgiving).

Circle and Land angry.gif I nearly did it last night, I was ONE lousy stinking second from getting gold. The same thing keeps happening to me with the Parachute landing test as well.

Circle and Land angry.gif I nearly did it last night, I was ONE lousy stinking second from getting gold. The same thing keeps happening to me with the Parachute landing test as well.

On circle & land, I did better when I waited to gear down until I was coming in on final, and avoided touching wheels until far down the runway. In that time I lowered my speed with square while keeping off the ground with still pulled back. When time came I dropped it onto the tarmac, braked hard and happened to put the whole plane into the pink column.

By keeping my gear up and avoiding ground contact while focusing on getting my landing under control, I did it in faster time. That's what was holding me back from gold.

On the parachute, I dove until I was through the clouds; only then did I pull the ripcord and begin a cautious but fairly consistent forward movement. Eventually I dropped CJ into the bull's eye. If you're coming up short on time, the key here is to HALO this one by diving until you can see the runway outline.

For City Slicking, I found a different way that helped me get gold. From the start, you can head east thru the intersection and down the hill to the train tracks. Head north on the tracks until they turn into a bridge. At this point, slow down and ease off the left side of the tracks to head down the grassy hill and onto the road. Blast along the four-lane to the checkpoint, then head up the hill and back across town following the tramline and the other tips in this thread.

This strategy will let you avoid traffic for about 1/3 of the test, it will keep you from losing it going downhill to the checkpoint too fast (that was my big problem), and won't require any quick 180's. Try not to do it in the rain though, or that grassy downhill will be very slick.

And as this is my first post here, I gotta ask: what the hell is this? breadfish_by_Moto.gif

any tips on the 90?

My method was 'keep trying until you get lucky' confused.gif

It's only a short test so unlike 'Burn & Lap' and 'City Slickers' it's not too annoying when you're continually messing it up.

On the burn & lap, in your final turn, did you remember not to throw the full 180? If you begin your turn outside, you can make a less sharp turn which will put your bumper over the finish line quicker. It's probably worth .4 second.

Holy &^$%! Jump and Stoppie is definately the hardest in the game, I cant seem to get it at all... ive gotten close (100% heading, 96% position) but I just cant get both 100%! C'mon, theres gotta be a way to do this easier! sad.gif

EDIT: Lol, nevermind, just got all 100%. W00t! All the schools are golden. *sigh* You know, before I really wanted to finish the story missions, but now without them the game feels so empty. Now its just doing random things to random people. Here's how I did it for anyone curious:

Right after it starts, lightly hold the analog stick forward (so light Carl isnt standing, but not too light) and after you go up the ramp watch that Carl isnt leaning too far forward. If you get this right you will notice how close you get to 100%. Just keep doing this until you luckily get 100%. It's what I did, sorry if the strategy has been told before...

Calm down, dude, you sound hydrophobic. You'll get a phone call telling you to buy a property, about two thirds through the main storyline missions.

Hear, hear.

By the way, I about busted a gut when I saw your sig. I would pay $100 for a modded GTA: Sesame Street, with Kermit and Miss Piggy and Grover and Oscar the Grouch gone all gangsta.

Thanks man, glad to hear people like my sig. Maybe if we begg Rockstar or a uber nerd they just might. I'll make a picture that will be GTA:SS, then I'll put it in my sig.

Before I add my "input" I'd like to extend an enourmous THANK-YOU to Cerby. And a fishloaf (If you dig that kind of thing): breadfish_by_Moto.gif

I have a couple suggestions:

For Destroy targets, start off by immediatly pointing the helicopter down so you descend like lightning, then pull up. You should be able to see the red markers (I did this at night). Start blasting, and if you're lucky you can hit them all before you even reach the first truck, and keep it in first person. My best advice for the moving targets is to fly your ass over there, slam down on L3 and hover, carefully aiming the rockets. If you pulled both these off quickly, haul arse to the landing spot and MAKE SURE you are parallel with the runway. I did this maybe 20 times before I realised what my problem was. I was really dissapointed, the (spoiler) hunter handles like a slipperly airborne bathtub.

Jump and Stoppie

For me, I got 100% on this on my first try because I screwed up. I floored it and leaned forward slightly, then accidently forgot to do a stoppie and the game stopped me square in the middle for a gold.

Flying Fish

This will sound odd, but, practice flying the Vortex. How, you may ask? Well. Go to the top of Mt. Chiliad, spawn a Vortex, and drive off. It's like flying a glider, but it's good practice. Don't save the cheats though. Pull back slightly, and then make fine adjustements with back/forward on the steering.

-------------

Well, that's my $0.02

Now, I need to ask some help. So far I have gold on every test in every school except, The 360 in Driving School[/u] I cannot seem to get this right. Regardless of what I do, I always get 75% on Final Heading and 100% on Positition. What the devil am I doing wrong!?

Good recommendations!

For the 360, make note of your compass direction when you start, and stop facing the same way. Stop your left and right wheels just where they started.

They didn't make that clear when I first did this one, so I just kept spinning till the timer ran out.
