Driving school will become unlocked as the storyline goes on, Jethro will give you a call. When it is unlocked, just step into the red circle in the building.

Boat School is accessible as soon as you unlock Las Venturas.

The 180 thing, I'm assuming you mean the car thing. Pull a quick handbrake turn around the pylon, and you should be able to get back for bronze with time to spare, just keep trying.

City Slicking, I will be putting up a map for my route tonight after I get off work. Its a pain, but you will eventually get it.

Just to clarify the Barrel Roll in Flight school.

Use opposite rudder to get a more controlled rotation.

If pushing analog stick to left then you want to hit and hold R2 during the rotation.

If pushing analog stick to right then you should hit and hold L2 during rotation.

This will help you maintain a straighter path as you roll the plane instead of turning it to right or left.

Think of it like steering into a turn in a car to maintain a straight line. It accomplishes same thing.

great guide, but I think the difficulities are personally based. Im real good with the handbrake, I got gold in the 90 turn inbetween cars on my second attempt..as for the wheelie weave...well it took the best part of the afternoon to do as I never did two wheelies much in vice or SA. Ive gotten gold in bike and air with ease but the car one is taking the biscuit, im on the city slicking atm..thanks for the different route, I hope to god this works else Ill have to buy another controller tmrw tounge.gif.

Welp I got gold in all schools yesterday (except bike), in about a hour, the hardest one is the jump and stoppy, Thats the only one I need to get gold in, I got a 98% in it, Grrr its really hard forget 6/5 difficulty, if it takes you more than a hour trying it should be 9/5 but anyways. I guess i'll keep trying it

looks like someone failed 4th grade math tounge.gif 9/5 would be equal to 180%, or 1 and 4/5,

as 6/5 would be equal to 120%, or 1 and 1/5.

well i done both the car and flying school with all aces. i need to do 2 more on the boat school and i dunno how many on the bike school.

ANNOYING:

whilst doing the boat school on the one where you have to drive between the buoys, the boat tipped trapping me under. i tried to exit the lesson by pressing triangle and nothing happened. this all resulted in 1 more hospital visit but i couldnt reload it or i would lose all my flying school stuff so i just saved it. damn, thats 2 hospital visits now !! (an accidental one from me and one from my brother when he was mucking around and decided to save it after he died)

my perfect record it now completely ruined (no saved deaths on Gta 3 or VC)

I've got yet another way to complete City Slicking. This may not be the best way, but it did lower your chance of getting damage for 50% of the "race."

Now, as you start out you are facing out of the driving school

1. Go straight to the road and take a right, driving down to the train tracks. Follow the train tracks until you go through the two tunnels, and you can see a hill to the left of the tracks. (Note: Do not go off any further then the top of the hill. This will just add damage.)

2. Once you leave the train tracks and go down the hill, you take a left to follow the traffic. Keep driving on the road towards your destination, and drive through it (taking another left from the road.)

3. Go uphill, and take a right, then take a left the first chance you have. Once you do that, you are basically home free.

4. Drive in the middle of the road (even if the tram tracks aren't there. You can dodge cars on both sides by staying in the middle.)

5. You will eventually see your garage. Just a little longer until you are almost to the driving school. Remember to turn on the right street and go flying into the ending.

Hope this helps.

Justine, the slowest time you can get while still attaining a medal is 75 seconds, or 1:15.

Damn jump and stoppie was hard, finally got it thanks to this thread!

I think its even harder then in real live... I've tried this kinda stuff on my motocross bike and it seems easier then ingame tounge.gif

Now the 180... stuck at 99% suicidal.gif < Ok, that was easy... all the time I was focusing on braking and turning was a waste of time... It's all about stopping your bike perfectly lined up in the middle of the cones.

WTF why is the NRG that spawns outside of the school not doing auto-wheelies!?

it depends how you take it. if out of 9 points the mission gets 5 difficulty points, it is less difficult, if it gets 5 difficulty points out of available 6. take it as you want, i wouldnt have bachelor in computer science if i sucked at math sigh.gif but for your arrogance, here is a cookie cookie.gif

yes, but as it is said, 6/5, and 9/5, as I put it, makes it 9 points out of 5, not 5 points out of 9. As you say, 5 difficulty points out of 9, then it would have to be put 5/9, not 9/5. I can explain to a fuller extent should you desire.

6/5 -> 6 difficulty out of 5, also known as correct.

6/5-> somewhere along the line, you interpreted this as 5 difficulty out of 6. . .

And I wasn't going to be an ass, but getting a bachelor in computer science is somewhere between tieing your own shoes and not choking on your own saliva. A course that can be completed at almost any local university in a few full semesters. Fractions are something learned in grade 2 math, not in some community college borefest.

I'd love to tell a math teacher I decided that the numerator was really the denominator cause thats how I took it

can you not take a joke? when they say 9/5 or 6/5 it means its super hard, they know its impossible, but its kinda funny saying its so hard it deserves a 9/5

get it? sarcasm.gif

EDIT: w00t! I beat it!!!!!!! i went along train tracks thru the tunnels, down the hill, along the highway, past the checkpoint, up that hill and back the way the original guide says!!!

thanks jOk3r for that stradegy!

yes, I do, because I was the one who said 9/5 and 6/5, and then someone decided that they thought it meant 5/9and 5/6, and threw some weak education into the mix. I can't stress enough how much you need to understand the conflict before you try to make a comment. Allow me to outline it just for you:

The number 9/5 and 6/5 came up, someone said 9/5 was easier than 6/5. I said this isn't true, made a crack about failing 4th grade math. This person then said its how you take it, and his/her BCS made them the authority on basic math, said I was arrogant (which is probably true) and left me no other option then to reply.

Pretty much, all you did was try to tear me down by supporting my side (aka the correct side)

"Jump and Stoppie: Difficulty 6/5" biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

How true!

"work the 'square button' (brake) and hope for the best."

Not needed to do a stoppie.

All you need to do is land on a 45 degree angle and hold forward to keep the back wheel off the ground. The 'stoppie' doesn't imply that you need to brake.

Kudos on the guide! Well done!

I think it should be a sticky. There is far too much garbage to weed through when searching for tips on these topics.

Notice the word 'stoppie' it means that you have to stop!

stoppie - pie = stop = put the break on!

Goddamn Burn & Lap. I know I'm the ten thousandth person to say it.

Now that I have, I hope to consult the driving experts here about it. Here's how it looks to me, and if I'm wrong, I hope you'll tell me.

It's obvious that tenths of a second matter. I've gotten as low as 37.6something--bronze, I think--but if I could shave a second and a half I might be gold. The key to that seems to be conservation of momentum in two ways: hook as tight around the pylon as you can manage, every time; and don't lose time and speed to wobbly turns and overcorrection. It seems that if you make two turns that are too far past the pylon, you might as well bonk and start over; you're hosed. Do people agree?

Now the mechanics of the turn. While some swear by the reverse brake turn, every time I use that I end up at a full stop and the mission over, so seems like handbrake's the way to go for me. Some say to never let off the accelerator; others say to ease off briefly before you flip the turn. The basic move is the standard handbrake turn, right? Hook the wheel and yank the handbrake, blasting off again at the precise moment you straighten out? Is there anything special beyond that, or is it just a matter of executing ten perfect such turns in a row?

I will get this sucker. I beat Vig L12 on a police bike, the NRG-500 challenge, the BMX challenge without using a Packer, unique jumps 3 and 9, and all three Chilidog Challenge races. Thanks for any help.

Burn and Lap:

Just completed this last night (after many attempts, obviously). For me the key was to watch my acceleration out of each turn. It's tempting to hammer the gas pedal and try to power the car out of the slide while you're still turning around the end cone, but if you do that you will waste valuable fractions of a second while the wheels spin, and you have to readjust the steering.

If you wait a moment for the car to complete it's swing and THEN accelerate, you'll come out of the turn straighter, the tires will gain traction quicker, and you'll get to the other end faster.

Hit R1 to make your turn as close to the end cone as possible, and when you've almost completed the turn let up on EVERYTHING except the direction you're holding the stick. The car will cruise around the corner but most importantly will maintain its traction. As soon as you're round the cone and are pointing in a straight line, accelerate again - BUT DON'T SLAM ON THE GAS. That's the secret. Use pressure on the button to try to accelerate gradually and pull out as smoothly as possible. It's more important to keep the car moving at a consistent speed than it is to thrash down the straightaways and power-slide round the corners.

If you burn rubber or have to make opposite-steering corrections on the way out of the turn, you're hitting the gas too early and too hard and you probably won't make the time. If you do it right it will feel noticeably faster and more controlled.

Edited to add: I just tried it again using the tips I gave above, and yes, it is a motherf*cker. Took me about ten goes, but I just did it in 35.315

You know, Jack, somehow this morning before I'd even finished my coffee I pulled off 99%, and what seemed most different was that I had less need to correct my direction after the turns. Normally after the turn, I have to very quickly decide whether I'm actually lined up and make quick adjustments or I'm going to doze some traffic cones. Half the time, I do have to make those adjustments. I've been doing the whole race with the hammer down, which contributes to this.

So what you are proposing is keep flooring it into the turn, but let off before the end, then make sure you're aligned before you floor it again? This all happens very fast, of course, so the actual lift of the accelerator is just a quick thing, much like the way you took your foot off the gas as you went over the spikes in the earlier mission to avoid losing control of the squad car. I'll give this a try. This mission comes down to conservation of speed in turning.

What is the bike that is in Jump and Stoppie? It looks like an nrg500 but the nrg's don't pop mad wheelies like that one does. Is there anywhere to find it?

To jkk: floor it into the turn, but don't floor it as you come out. Instead try to gradually add pressure to the button, you'll find that you come out of the turn much straighter and the car will move at a more consistent speed.
