Disc-Read Errors

call 1-800-345-sony and tell them what's wrong with it , then they'll tell you what to do. you will have to ship it to them and then after about a week it should be bcak and working. i have did this 3 times with my PlayStation 2

I have got an SCHP - 50003 Silver PS2, i have played the game for about 5 hours over the last couple of days and have encountered 20-30 disc read errors.

 

The screen goes black for a second and says disc read error before it returns to normal. It's kinda like a really dodgy loading screen.

 

But so far the disc read error has only lasted a few secs and then i can play again so i am thinking of wiping the disc and playing the PS2 on its side rather than stood up....

 

Still you would think having one of the newer models would eleviate such problems.

well i havent got the game yet, i live in australia and ordered from GP store i hate them still havent got it, anyways i gotta SCH-39002 and a few people have the same one and sayin theres is workin fine so im happy so hopefully it'll work cant wait till monday......

A little off topic, but I remember there was a forum about what is the worst thing to happen, where people replied: "the game could be a joke from R*, or it gets pushed back, or the gov. bans it, etc.. I put that there would be a disc error when you put it in. I think that jinxed you all.

no disc errors, but its told me to plug in my controller when i was driving, (and it was plugged in)

UGH. One day of playing. DISC READ ERROR. Some of my DVD movies have experienced this and now San Andreas. My PS2 was bought for my birthday in April of 2001 I believe. Does this help any? I'm about to call Sony.

I don't know what happened. I played for hours today, but after I got back from eating and turned it on it kept getting stuck at this screen:

 

Now I can't get past that part! I must keep playing! AAAAHHHH!

 

I tried reseting, nothing. I tried turning it off/on, nothing. I tired turning it off, removing the disk, replacing the disk, turning it back on, and still nothing. I tried a gentile tap on the top of the PS2 after it got stuck, nothing.

 

If I can't play GTA Im gonna have to kill myself...

well i feel sorry for you guys, ive been playing it for a while now and i havent experianced any problems excpet a few scenes where it skips because theres loads of stuff happening (shoooting, blood and rain)

Btw~ It did happen. I first heard a fartish noise. Like a car muffler farting so I turned off my ps2. Reset then went to my garage got in my lowrider. Then the game said "Disc read error" Then it just went back to playing the game.

did you try a DVD Laser Lens Cleaner?

 

The same thing happened to me with Vice City few months ago.

Well sometimes it began to load but it also stuck there.

 

The DVD Laser Lens Cleaner fixed it and all problems are gone.

YEah, I have had problems, i hasn't really effected how I play though. Just a few seconds it says disc read error.

Mines a big screw up when it comes to san andreas, at first it wou;df glitch like mad and stuff wouldnt come up on screen like roads so i turned it on its side and it worked fine for bout an hour but then messed up again and crashed. When io tried to start it up again it'd go the loading bar screen and then say disk read error and wont do jack, ive tried cleaning it out but it made no difference and ive used a head cleaner cd rom to get dust off the lens and still doesnt work im runnin a scph3003 model which i think is quite old.

 

Any advise?

sorry for double post but ive found the solution to my problem and thats to get one of them thar fancy shmansie new skinny ps2's. Its gunna be in my arms by wednesday so i expect that'll last about 10 minutes by the tiume i finish playing andreas lol

same here but i cant believe i havent got it now because before i went the forest game on saturday they had it in stock so i waited till after to get and yes hey had sold out gutted, tuesday or wednesday for me

I haven't got my game in,, and after reading this topic I'm a little paranoid. But in an odd sick little way it would make sense... the one game that'll be widely purchased just around the same time Sony creates another version of the Playstation, what other way to unseemingly make ppl want to get a new system than a screwy error that'll berserk the system.... As far as the post on the tilting the PS2 and hitting it... maybe PS2 is turning into the next NES (if anyone remembers the old cartridge fiddling).

I dont have San Andreas yet but if i know someone else has got the same model as mine and theirs is fine itll take the worrie off my chest

 

EDIT: The model ive got is one of the quite new silver PS2's...

Hmm well I have a 5001 version I think it is. I know it's like that but maybe 1 extra 0. anyway yeah the version 30001 does have disc read problems and if u send it to sony which u must call them first they will give u info on where to send it and how to package it. The best thing is it is free of charge and u only have to pay to send it to them. They were orignally not going to fix them but having to pay a big cash fine to not have to fix them made them change their minds.

I got my old one right at the time that vice city came out. It wouldnt play san andreas and I had to get a new one. It was very dark too.

That is odd. I have hardly turned my ps2 off. It has only been loaded up like 3 or 4 times since I've gotten san andreas.

I'd be interested to know how many people experiencing problems have a 'chipped'/'modded' PS2... Or is it just screwing up without prejudice?

 

Mine is fine so far, but I have been playing it in very long sittings, and leaving the console on for long periods of time - could this have anything to do with it?

Mine is a SPCH-39004 and it's bugging like hell (SA is the first game which even causes something like this, though I've played a scratched-cd Vice City which didn't like to work at all). It's quite frustrating though you'd assume that hey, this is something too fresh and superb, it should work just fine.

 

Besides disc-reading errors, I've had some weird and loud noises (like someone else mentioned earlier) when starting the game and during the game. Like the console would be trying to eat the disc or something ..

30002 with a Mars-3 modchip working perfectly. Makes strange sounds when reading disc, but I put this down to the PS2 in question being a freebie from work.
