Various owners of San Andreas have reported disc-reading problems. Have you experienced any disc-reading problems?

It is not yet known whether this is related to certain batch models or simply aging/mistreated PS2s. At this point we do NOT advise you to take apart your PS2 and attempt to 'clean' the drive lens. Doing so will not only void your warranty, but you could cause permanent damage and present a risk of electric shock the next time it is turned on.

If you are experiencing problems then please post any useful information, such as your PS2 model number. Once enough feedback is collected, hopefully a recommended procedure to correct this issue will become available.

Please do not PM staff regarding support issues - use The GTA Network Support Forum

Don't know mine is on its way back from Sony as we type. But it is a 39001 and I heard some of those were having problems. So I'm think Murphys LAw now. Hopefully it'll work.

For the first hour I had some sound issues but after I saved and reseted they went away. Seems to always happen at the first few cinematics.

I have an older PS2 one of the 1st generations and it played perfectly the first night, next night I come in, wont play at all. I take the disc out and somehow the cd got scratched inside the ps2 and had some dust on it. It then wont play any other cd! I take it apart, clean the lens and end up raising the tray in the player and then it plays every cd like a charm only a few screwups on loading, but then it now acts like it had to adjust to the game and now it works like a breeze. Like some others during the first few missions was when it would act up. Freezing on load screens in and out of the gym and such.

I'll try & find what number it is, but twice today I got DRE while playing. It makes clicking noise repeatidly then says 'Disk Read Error' ahwell I'll just sue the fook out of R* for messing up my PS2 if it stops working.

I had the same problem with Vice City on my old PS2. GTA games load a lot of info and often, so that where I first noticed it too. It was momentarily curable by standing the console up on its end and hitting the top of it lightly until the clicking stopped. It's a problem with the console, not the game. Be careful with it as it may (and did with mine) DAMAGE DISCS. I replaced mine with a previously owned console which was repaired by sony and am currently sending mine in for repairs. I'm not expecting it back for a while, so I had to get an interim one with GTASA coming out.

Like I said, it started with Vice city and gradually got worse until it was doing it with all games.

call 1-800-345-sony and tell them what's wrong with it , then they'll tell you what to do. you will have to ship it to them and then after about a week it should be bcak and working. i have did this 3 times with my PlayStation 2 confused.gif

Works fine on my friends 30009R, even after 16 hours of continuous play.

16 hours, wow.

Mine works fine, no problems yet. smile.gif
