Okay, the last like.. week I've been playing GTA3.. started a new game, beat it all 100%.. then I decided.. hell, I'll put in Vice City.. so I put in Vice City.. go to playing it.. then I realized.. "this sucks..." What's up with that? What does GTA3 have that Vice City doesn't? Because isn't Vice supposed to be better?^o)

Vice City is way too flat.

This was one of the reasons for me too. The terrain of Vice City was just so barren in terms of hills.

Some other reasons I think GTA3 was better were:

1. The guns. I just think there were too many in Vice City. There were about 10 in GTA3 you could use, so you easily remembered every weapon.

2. The time it's set in. I think more people can relate to 2001 than they can 1986, it's just a more modern game than VC is, at least in terms of timeline.

3. The gangs. The gang wars, the shootouts, the missions, etc. They made that game very fun to play, especially when you were fighting the Triads or Cartel in the game. In VC, gangs didn't have as much of a role, so some people who preferred the latter didn't like it as much.

They had to make VC flat--- if you have ever been to Florida you would know why. The highest mountain is Space Mountain at Disney World.

As the resident "Old Fart", I loved the 1986 setting for the game (especially the music) but the storyline and the lack of gangs and their place in the storyline in VC was very apparently lacking after having played GTA:III-- you can complete VC's storyline without doing the Cuban or Haitian Missions--and the few gangs you deal with in the storyline are kind of wimpy.

I did like the variety of weapons in VC but you should have been able to carry multiple weapons of the same class (at least 2)-- how does a person decide between the rocket launcher and the M60.

III's story was better but VC made up with it with Helicopters and Motorcycles.

I love them both.

For me GTA3 story was better. In Vice you just happened to be supported by a lawyer. He gave you your beginning contacts (cortez, avery) which led to Diaz and owning a manshion. In GTA3 you fought your way to the top..8ball just introed you to the Mafia. You got a girl. In my opinion the peds were as stupid as they were in Vice. I mean they could now sit down while scratching there heads. bored.gifnotify.gif I think they could have done alittle better. Vice was good but 3 was groundbreaking.

I guess the present-day type setting was more appeasable than Vice City's setting in the 80's, because most gamers playing this weren't even around to experience/remember the 80's.

Damn right, the 80's in VC just suck. Also the cars were a lot better than those squares with wheels in VC. But I don't play GTA3 anymore, reason? VC runs 1000 times faster in my computer.

yeah.. too flat.. too big too, I think with Vice, Rockstar was in one of those.. "we already know it'll sell like pet rocks.. (when they were popular.. not now" so they didn't put as much effort into it as they did for GTA3.. Vice was too simple.. like..too flat, took the easy way out.. yeah..

Too flat? It's Florida...

Cars too boxy? If you have ever seen a car from the '80's, they weren't the most curvy, sexy cars ever.

Personally, I liked VC better than 3 for the simple fact that I could actually run around 95% of the map without getting shot at. In 3, no matter where you went, there was a gang that hated you.

Sure, the fact that more gangs hate you as you take over there area is realistic and all, but I am a guy who also likes to just jack around on the game. I'm not a serious gamer, and the fact that I hardly ever play either game, makes my decision the way it is.

Vice City was more laid back, IMO, compared to 3. If I hadn't played for 3 months, and I decide "I'd like to play some GTA", I don't want to have to worry about going here or going there and having people chase me with shotguns, machine guns, or pistols. I'd rather go where ever I want, jack a vehicle, cruise around, shoot some people, and just have nice, relaxing time while playing. Screw GTA3, IMO. Sure, I'm glad it started the whole GTA thing back up, and I'm certainly glad that it lead to VC; but since I am not a hardcore gamer, fun games are more appealing to me.

Whatev, I'll probably get flamed by you guys, but I don't really care.

Yeah Vice is boring as hell to just run around in. I have to start a new game and do the story line missions to stay entertained.

As for why GTA3 is better it just had that "somthing" its atmosphere was just right, the city was great, the pepole you came in contact with were interesting. More mafia/organized crime element, more gangs, better plot. Landscape was more thought out, made cruising around and doing stunts a lot of fun.

It was just plain better.

GTA3 beats Vice hands down. The only thing I miss from Vice when playing GTA3 is the bikes and helicopters, but then thats what GTA:LC is for. wink.gif

@ Shawn B. - If you have the PC version of GTA3 there is a mod out that takes all the gang hostility away. You can cruise anywhere and not get shot at. wink.gif

Liberty City has a much cooler atomosphere and generally a much cooler vibe. It just has a better...FEEL. You can't really describe it. However, I've been doing many a stunt in Vice City for my next video and I have to tell you that once you go hunting for stunt spots, the true hugeness of Vice City really begins to show.

Hear hear.

I dont know how many times I have finished that game in order to keep myself amused. GTA3 is just fun. I have a banshee in my Shoreside vale garage, I just start there and do the unique stunt jump across the dam and go from there.

yeah.. seems you do have to have missions in order to have fun with Vice City.. having 100%.. just seems boring.. drive around.. do R3 missions sure.. but.. those are repetitive and boring.. I kinda liked the fact that GTA3 had it's own music.. instead of like.. actual songs and stuff.. kinda liked that.. I dunno..

Carl Vercetti

I may be way off, but I think that GTAIII's superior atmosphere largely comes from the fact it's set in it's very own world. An entirely different universe that only faintly resembles ours. I think that in Vice City, Rockstar tried too hard to make it feel like 1986 Miami. The map is much closer to Miami than LC is to NYC. The soundtrack, while being one of the things that makes Vice City shine, was not as original as GTAIII (nor as funny for that matter...). What I mean is, Vice City just felt to "real." Like I said, I may be way off, but LC just captures that sandbox appeal much better.

And the hills. It's like a roller coaster versus a monorail... lol.

well i liked vc better. also played it first. i like the miami beachy feel, better than the grungy NY feel of GTA3. I did like the game okay thoug. i just didn't finish 3 because it ran laggy on my pc while vc ran perfect max everthing for some reason. gta3 also started messin up my money after i learned to jump the bridge girders to get all packages before mission, plus i hated the dodo mechanics. those are the reasons i moved on. also don't have a great deal of time to play games, so i've shelved several games that were less than engrossing to me.
