A few wins in a row will secure us top spot.

The Indian wicketkeeper has taken the pads off to take the new ball. That is how serious the game has been taken, because both teams scored ~600 in the first innings and with 20 overs remaining on the final day, Pakistan has only lost 3 wickets in its first innings.

Even though I didn't see any of the Sri Lankan batting Innings, since I was working, it seems we kept them to a relatively low score. The Aussies should go on and power home a victory, just to really start to cement this top spot.

We need 71 off 82, but we have 7 wickets in hand. I predict we'll continue on at a required R/R of about 6, and then have a slog in the last few overs. Should be a fairly comfortable win, when you consider the wickets remaining include a good number of specialist batsmen.

On another note, is anyone at all interested in tennis? I've been watching the Australian Open, and that Baghdatis guy has made it into the final. For those of you who don't know, he's an unseeded player from Cyprus. He's pretty cool. When interviewed after a win, he was asked what he was going to do that night. He responded by saying he intended to go to bed with his girlfriend. But yeah, he beat David Nalbandian in the semi last night, and will play the winner of the Federer-Keifer match in the final.

Yes, I have been watching the open, and damn I hope Marcos Baghdatis wins. Just because he is a down to earth guy, and seems fairly friendly and not arrogant etc. Federer played like a sh*thole against Davydenko and limped into the semi. Oh. by the way, I saw him and his girlfriend in the paper, and she is a fine specimen. I would take her to bed too.

 

Geez, Australia haven't been their dominant selves in smashing a few victories in the rounds of the VB series. This is why I don't believe in the rotation policy. I mean, it's great to see we have so much talent we need a rotation policy, but weren't the glory days a time where we had the same team for years on end? I know the selectors are looking toward the 2007 World Cup, but the VB series is now, and we want to win it now.

Yep, totally agreed.

 

We need to get a team, and stick with it. If a player performs consistently at a high level at an interstate level, then perhaps he can be promoted into the Australian side, provided there's a need to change the side in the first place. Back to the old process of actually earning something.

 

Don't worry, we'll be in the final. It'll be against Sri Lanka, I think.

I totally agree. Every two seconds you hear a a cheap plug for Prison Break or Commander in Chief. Or the new season of Lost or Desperate Housewives.

 

Often the commentators don't even talk about tennis, though. I've heard conversations about golf and other sports too. Channel 7 suck.

 

But yeah, hopefully Baghdatis will defeat Federer, but in a good tough match. Henin-Hardene should beat Mauresmo this arvo in the womens singles.

Yeah, with all the new commercial focus on everything, it has to be done. We have a 70 year old talking about CSI in the cricket these days as well. It will only get worse.

 

Yes, it will be a great game in the men's final, and Mauresmo will hit the lights out of Henin Hardenne on the court if she wins, and off the court if she doesn't. God she is a muscly bitch. ANyways, Mauresmo to win. Federer may win the Open, but the true legend will always be Baghdatis. A no name outside the top 50 comes to the Aussie Open and plays in the final, possibly to beat the world no 1. I am always behind Baghdatis, and he is a likeable character, as is Federer, but Baghdatis has a massive aura about him.

 

Fuzzy: When you said he was going to take his girl to bed, I would too. I saw her picture in the Daily Telegraph and she is a fine specimen. Damn shes good.

How do you guys feel about channel 7 picking up the AFL? I was gonna say this a while back.

 

I reckon it could be good if Channel 9 wants to get the NRL on at the same time as often it could easily outdue the AFL in the ratings.

No it wont.

 

 

I would prefer the AFL to be on channel 7 and 9 as I've liked both of their coverages, but channels 10's coverage has always been rather average, imo.

 

In the end though, it doesn't really matter which channel has the rights to broadcast the AFL, we're not going to see any more or any less games per week on either channel because they're not prepared to do it in a way that gives us more coverage. Instead of having one channel take Friday's and sunday's and the other channel have saturday's and the finals, it would be better if they had one saturday game on one channel and the other on another channel, but when huge amounts of money is involved, the viewers are unlikely to be the winners.

AFL matches pack out stadia with 50 000+ people on a constant weekly basis, you would be lucky to see that in an NRL finals week.

Just look at some old posts and you'll see even people in here were talking about NRL more then AFL.

 

EDIT: Aussies are 1/191. They need 43 off 46 balls or thereabouts to claim a bonus point. They still have 106 balls to get the 43 for a win.

Yeah, what a century for Gilly in the end. We missed the bonus point by 3 balls, but we really went into our shell when we needed less than 10 to get the bonus off about 4 balls. Gilly got 116 off 104 balls, Katich had a big role, and Sri Lanka will face Seth Afrika tommorow in a must win for both teams, with one point sperating them as the points table goes. -MDG

We speak with numbers. There are more fans in Queenslando because of Brisbane/Fitzroy success and there are more fans in NSW because of Sydney/Bloods success.

 

Furthermore, SA and WA are predominately AFL states. And especially Victoria. AFL is f*cking religion in Victoria.

What I'm saying though is that in broad terms they actually dont get a bad deal if they get the NRL, because I know that even though I'm AFl through and through I would still prefer to watch a good NRL game then watch whatever crappy teams are playing on a Friday or Saturday night.

Even if they have viewers who switch between channels, it will still get their channel quite a bit of viewing time.

Watching it now? Boom, that was amazing. Even the fact that Hussey and Symonds got out in the final over doesnt matter because they put on 109 runs in like 70 deliveries.

I was watching the last 10 overs. They predicted if neither of them got out soon they could get 250, if the partnership was brokenn up about 230, in the end they got 282 which is a mighty tough target.
