Are the NRL umpires more harsh or are the players just hotheads?

I think we know the answer.

Well for starters the NRL doesn't have umpires...we have referees and then of course the judiciary and all those officials.

Chalky: When you say that Slater's suspension is over you mean it's over after this weekend's round of matches right? Seeing as the Storm had the bye last week he is still unable to play this week. wink.gif

Damn complicated NRL. Can't they just have 1 week = 1 match, and no byes like the AFL. It makes it so much easier. mad.gif

Lol, well that's how it should be though. It frustrates me in other footy codes when players get suspended for a certain amount of weeks but don't miss out on many matches because they count weeks not played as part of the punishment. Does the AFL just have one week off in the middle of the season or something like that?

Dammit. I thought that split round thing was for this round. Hopefully Port can beat Sydney, they just lost a game, right?

Here are my tips for this week. My tips are in green.

Carlton vs Geelong

Geeloong will be too strong, especially when they are in form.

Hawthorn vs Melbourne

Melbourne is a good team, Hawthorn aren't exactly making headlines.

West Coast Eagles vs St Kilda

I hate to tip against my beloved Saints, but with the loss of a few key players, and west coast stengtherned thanks to the tribunal bastards the Eagles will be too strong at Subiaco oval.

Kangaroos vs Western Bulldogs

Kangaroos need this win after a dismal performance last week.

Adelaide vs Brisbane Lions

Brisbane at not in form with that loss last week to Western Bulldogs, and at AAMI stadium, the Crows will come away winners IMO.

Sydney Swans vs Port Adelaide

Sydney are good at home, and Port coming off a win, should be a good match. Swans in a close one.

Collingwood vs Richmond

I don't like Richmond, mainly due to my personal hatred of a fan of them, who if you want more info about him, I'm refering to Patrick in here and here, but I still don't think they will lose to the Pies.

Essendon vs Fremantle

Fremantle are due to lose in Victoria, so this might be the Dons big chance. Let's see if they take it and can claim a win.

Well that's the way it'll be this weekend. We'll soon find out if I was right or not.

EDIT: New page!! I win.

Well, looks like a bit more NRL Dejavu. Last week, the Cowboys were up 6-0 after 2 minutes and ended up losing 50 points to 12. Last night, the Panthers scored within two minutes of the whistle and were up 6-0. They scored again after the Dragons scored and went up to 8-0. The Dragons then took off to win it 34-12 after the third of three unconverted tries was scored on Fulltime by Ben Pommerey for the Panthers.

Well, Geelog beat the blues last night as well, didn't watch it, and don't know the score. All I know is geelong won.

I played rugby this morning. Went pretty good, I feel very fit at the moment. I played 3 quarters of the game and came off when it was all but won. We won it in the second half, going 20-0 up after the first half. We came out flying in the second half, but didn't go as well, but pulled through to win it 30-10. -MDG

Well the Panthers really seem to be struggling at the moment whereas the Dragons have really hit their stride and won four on the trot now. Their star players are actually playing well as a team and have the potential to go all the way. Tonight the Storm play the Rabbitohs in Sydney after the bye so I hope the rest has done them some good.

Good job on the footy win, MDG. How's your team positioned on the ladder now?

I have two from three (2/3) so far. Pity about the Saints loss. Just too far undermanned to face a team that is so in form.

The AFL Tribunal was this week's "Tool of the Week" for that whole thing about punching, and Frasier Gerihg(?sp) and the West Coast playing. I beleive it was the comedian on "Before the game" that said it best.

Small punch, one week

Nut punch, no week

That's just cra-zy.

cra-zy

I hypened crazy because he paused in the middle breifly.

EDIT: Make that 2/5 with Lions only just winning, and Western Bulldogs having a good win over the Roos.

oh my god, I'm obsessed

Honestly, I know he's got two touch judges and a video ref, but how s#!t a referee is Paul Simpkins? Now mind you I tipped the Dragons on Friday night, but Simpleton Simpkins was bloody staring right at Shaun Timmins when he knocked on before that try was scored and nada, nothing, zip, zero, zilch! Couple this with that s#!t decision about the flop tackle in the Sharks game a couple weeks ago (and when I cheer for Brett Kimorley you KNOW something's wrong) and the Adrian Morley stuff up... why hasn't he spent at least a couple of weeks in premier league? angry.gif

The refereeing overall this year in the NRL has been very poor. rampage_ani.gif

I agree there have been a lot of poor refereeing decisons this year but I also don't want to see them go to the video ref for every decision. You need to find a happy medium. Well the Storm smashed the Bunnies 38-12 tonight and I think I've got 3/4 tips so far. smile.gif

Good job on the footy win, MDG. How's your team positioned on the ladder now?

Well our W-L-T record now stand at 2-1-1 so I guess we are sitting at maybe fourth out of 9. We played really well, but just talking to Macintire Sniper about rugby a few minutes go reminded me of when we beat them, our arch rivals, 83-0 last year. That is a game I shall never forget. It's the biggest win in a Singleton v Maitland clash ever in junior rugby.

I think one of the worst referee decisions was Albert Torrens dropped try last week. He dropped it cold about 3 inches off the ground, and the touchy was right there and didn't see it. It has been a very poor standard of reffing this year.

Well, I am sitting at 1/4 this week. Not happy. I am actually fairly confident that the knights can win today, because they are versing a team that has lost 4 on the trot. C'mon boys, just for the people.

Edit: Might add that the first scoring teams losing happened again last night to the Cowboys, who scored in the first 5 minutes and never scored again. The Sea Eagles broke their night losing record by winning against the Bulldogs, which probably means that Anthony Watmough has more chance of making the Origin team, as he was up against Andrew Ryan last night. THe Bullsogs also scored first, but not until the 20th minute. -MDG

So what you're saying is your team isn't as good as last year?

Well the Roosters beat the Warriors in a close one today across the Tasman. Luckily I tipped the Roosters and now have 4/5. The Swans are looking good against the Port Hillbillies which pleases me of course.

No, we just haven't, erm...what's the word...lubricated..no wrong word...gotten into it as much this year. We will get into it a bit when the going gets tough.

Well, I was going to do this before, but didn't get around to it, so I will do it now. The NSW people selected a 30 man squad which will be cut to 17 tommorow. Here it is. I was going to do predictions but it is too hard to pick. You guys can do some if you want and post them.

Braith Anasta (Bulldogs),

Luke Bailey (St George Illawarra)

Danny Buderus (Newcastle)

Trent Barrett (St George Illawarra)

Ryan Cross (Sydney Roosters)

Ben Creagh (St George Illawarra)

Joel Clinton (Penrith)

Matt Cooper (St George Illawarra)

Craig Fitzgibbon (Sydney Roosters)

Mark Gasnier (St George Illawarra)

Craig Gower (Penrith)

Scott Hill (Melbourne)

Nathan Hindmarsh (Parramatta)

Trent Waterhouse (Penrith)

Anthony Watmough (Manly)

I think something along these lines would suit. It's very hard to pick the four bench players so I picked five.

I'm pretty much with Storm, with respect to my opinion on the Origin side.

The Knights lost. Again. It's becoming pretty annoying, considering one of my best mates is an avid Brisbane supporter.

And my NRL Reviews are underway. I didn't think I'd have time tonight, but I'll see how I go with what time I do have.

[EDIT] My NRL Reviews were a bit shoddy today. I apologise for that.

All of the footy scores for the weekend are in. Great to see that both Adelaide teams lost in the AFL. Melbourne Storm are now sitting in 5th spot on the ladder so with a bit more consistency I don't see why they can't make the top 4.

This is my 300th post in this topic. Haha MDG, I beat you. biggrin.gif

Jay, you are a legend.

Mafia Drive Gunner remembers Jay backs Port

On the other hand, you all suck. Well, jay because he backs port and storm because jay said so. Anyways, I'm just on my way to update the scores, and I will do the Top 8 either soon or tommorow night.

Hmm....Rhys Wesser and Scott Prince have been left out of QLD's team, opening up to give Billy Slater fullback rights and possibly give Ty Williams a go at Origin. Steve Simpson made the NSW side although he didn't make the 30-man squad. Yay. Only 2 debutants for NSW, Anthony Watmough and Matt King. -MDG

You still suck Storm

Maybe but not as much as you because you're from Adelaide and all Adelaide teams lost on the weekend. MDG you suck because you go for the Knights and I beat you to 300 posts in here. I win.

Well I was pretty accurate with my Blues team selection, it was just the bench that was a little different. I reckon Scott Prince should feel a little hard done by because Thurston hasn't been that good in the last couple of weeks. I'm really happy that Kingy got a spot in the side exactly as I predicted.

Well, you do live in a pretty sucky city, although you are allowed to grow weed for 'personal use'. In your case jay, you still live in adelaide, so therefore you still suck, because Adelaide AFL teams suck. tounge.gif All Jokes...maybe.

I hope they bring back that ad with Wally Lewis going, "I love new, I love new, I love New South Wales, Go New South Wales". -MDG

Ah yes, the good ol' State of Origin commercials. I love this time of the year, there's nothing quite like the intensity and passion of Origin footy.

Honestly Jay, the fact you live in a sh*t city means I don't need any more material. How about I tell you that I have a better phone than you. Does that make you happy?
