Tutorial Requests

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I wanted to make a request for someone to make a tutorial on how to use the Vice City Mod Packer. I already know how to make a car but i wanted to know what the code script is for making building and stuff. That would be really cool if someone could do that. i know people out there know how because i've seen vcm buildings so please just take a little bit of your time to make a tutorial! thank you!

Been a while since I last had a rummage through here. For those asking about creating VCM packages, there is a Convert cars to VM topic.

Now, working from oldest to newest:

I'm sure that you'd all agree.

WE NEED A PATH EDITING TUTORIAL

Or a linky to one, thanks.

KCow Mapper Continued is an open-source expansion of MooMapper and it includes visual path editing. Additional reading can be found in my GTAVC Paths: Definition and GTAVC Paths: Manual Editing, although the second one is not quite complete yet.

there used to be a tutorial WIP when i was here a few months ago, i guess it got pushed off or deleted because i can't find it anywhere but it was a full tutorial on how to model a new car for vc, it covered the hierarchy, and even how to get custom wheels working, anyone have a copy of it or know where it is now?
Sounds like either Ashdexx's Vehicle Basics or Car Dummy Heirarchy and Positions.

id like 2 request a tutorial for hierarchy/export cars/planes 2 vice city thru kams dff script, cause everytime i think i have it right  i dont and the game crashes when it tries 2 load the vehicle.
Refer to the two topics linked to above.

Can someone explain to me how exactly the 'timed objects' work. I wanted to make a door thats open during the day, and closed during the night. So I just made a gap (open door) and a closed door. I thought: when I make the closed door a timed object wich shows only during the night, I'd have what I wanted. Now it looks allright. The closed door shows up at night and dissappears at daytime, but it's COL doesn't. So, during the day, My closed door-model is gone, but when I want to walk through the gap, I hit the COL from the closed door.  sad.gif    What am I doing wrong??  Anybody?
ODIE explains this briefly in the Complete Known IDE-Definitions thread. Basically, treat the door as a completely seperate model from the main building. Make sure the name of the DFF matches the correct COL file. Make sure the IDE entry has the right texture name. Just generally check everything is exactly as it should be.

Hi can anyone teach me how to make damage

modeling in to my cars Thnx

One thing you need to get right is the heirarchy of dummies and objects, which is explained in detail in Ashdexx's Vehicle Basics thread. You also need a correctly built collision file, for which I expect there are tutorials if you run searches in the relevant areas. Ah blow it, I'll run one for you...Vehicle COL Files Tutorial.

I need a tutorial on making a character from scratch, including skinning, if anybody knows of an existing one please give me a link.
VC Player Model Editing.

Hi there,

Could someone please make a tutorial on how to texture using 3ds Max as this appears to be an overlooked area and would solve a few issues that some folks have with Z-modeler (i.e. selections disapearing in UV when zooming out).

Mental Mickey,

I maged to dig up this old post which goes some way to explaining how it works. I hope it is good enough. GODK made this topic a while back which has links to massive lists of tutorials for different modelling programs. They have a search engine to make finding the information easier, apparently.

Hey I need a tut on how to install Myriad Islands on my Xbox!
How to Strip the XBOX Version of Vice. It requires a lot of work to convert a mod to be compatible with the XBOX and I am not sure if Opius has made his port of the Myriad Islands mod publically available...

I'm also looking for a tutorial to get weapons in VC, if anyone knows of one/makes one, please say it.
Inserting Custom Weapons. Took a few searches through the "Textures and Modelling" area to find it, but I got it in the end. smile.gif I think this is also what Crow Dreamer wanted.

I can't beleive that there were so many questions which had not really been answered. What's the point of having this thread pinned if no modifiers (or even the area staff) bother to answer the questions and inform requesters when the tutorial has already been made?

Answer: None

Nice in depth analysis of the questions Cerbera, but you still had to have a dig at the staff, whether they are a led-by or moderator it’s all the same. Perhaps some people are busy with life, working and do not have time to make such posts. I know for a fact if they knew an answer to a question they would be willing to help.

The people who lead this forum the area leaders forum led-by's were appointed led-by's due to certain reasons, Dup was made a led by because it was his idea and he knows quite a lot about GTA modding. Gangsta Killa put his name forward and has made a massive contribution to this area so I don't see how you can feel that the staff is not helping around here.

The modding area on this website is more of a community; it’s not just those who have more power than a regular member who can help out.

I would like to point out something also, we have a forum search. 99% of the questions you just answered were covered elsewhere and you gave links to them. Should we not enforce a rule for people to search for a subject first? In 99% of these cases they would have found the information they were looking for. Of course I would always be happy to help people out to help answer people's questions, I have done in the past and I will continue to do so into the future.

Now your post was fine and helpful until the last paragraph, I don't want to see another such post here because that's not what the section is about.

I feel a pin is justified here, tho I did speak to Gangsta about your tutorials having a single topic to themselves. I personally don't see why they cannot be placed into the main tutorials thread tbh. They are no more deserving of been pinned than teh other pinned topics.

< How's this for an answer, Cerbera? F*CK OFF.

Thanks, and have a nice day.  monocle.gif  />

Flaming in a pinned topic of a specialised area? I just cannot understand how a member of staff could be so irresponsible and disruptive. Why are you even on the staff anyway? What do you do apart from setting a bad example?

Members of staff too busy to fulfill their duty shouldn't be on the staff.

Dup left the scene months ago and GK just lets his pinned topics rot. He hasn't updated the Master Tutorial List since February 11th 2005 despite there being loads of excellent tutorials since then which superceed the ones in that list. He hasn't updated the Tools List since October 17th 2004!

I agree. That's why my complaint was aimed at GTA modifiers (with a note about the staff) and not aimed at the staff (with a note about GTA modifiers).

I fully recognise your contributions to this area; you are one of very few people who occasionally runs through the question and request topics in this area. However, one must realise that we have been here for years and have been fairly active in the modding scene the whole time. Someone who hasn't been here as long or doesn't follow the forums as avidly as us needs a helping hand.

Often the Search is just frustrating and time-consuming for them because they don't have a feeling for what the different areas cover. There's a lot of overlap between the areas and even more so now there are two more areas doing the things which have always been done in existing areas. The problems newer members having using the Search form is only going to get worse because of these changes and will only get better when we have fewer areas which are less strictly define and have less of an overlap.

It certainly won't get solved by members and staff ignoring the help threads created to alleviate this problem.

You'd better tell that to Tsuroki, then. wink.gif

His topics, full of typos, with about thirty old tutorials, which he doesn't update, which has been stagnant for months, are more worthy io pinnage than my fifty+ tutorials which cover the entire GTA series in areas that nobody else knows as well as me? That doesn't make any sense. Also, if my tutorials list was added into another thread four things would result:-
  1. The person who added it in would get the table code wrong and refuse to correct it.
  2. I wouldn't be able to update the table myself, so I'd have to PM the code to a member of staff.
  3. The member of staff wouldn't bother to make the changes.
  4. Modifiers would have to visit my site to see if I made any new tutorials or check when I last updated them.
Since my tutorials cover some unique topics in a much more detailed way than many other tutorial writers (who else makes graphs?! tounge.gif) they are more than deserving of being pinned. Couple that with them covering the entire series and including the unrivalled Handling Definitions for GTA3, GTAVC and GTASA, you realise that they really are important pieces of writing. I get a few e-mails each week from people complimenting my tutorials. I help a few people each day over MSN by referring them to my tutorials. It seems unlikely that such unqiue subjects as the suspension characteristics of vehicles in GTA3 versus GTAVC would have much of a readership, but since handling is just about THE most common thing to modify they are useful to a very large number of people.

Also, by helping people make handling modifications they get a taste for modding. Those who like it often go on to make cars or insane stunt videos. If it weren't pinned then they wouldn't have that opportunity since it isn't (and shouldn't be) a particularly active thread. Pinning a topic is to keep threads which are important at the top of the board even when they do not receive many posts. Now, I update my pinned topic whenever I update my Texts Index page. The other pinned threads are not updated when there is a great new tutorial posted, or a great new tool released.

I don't see any harm in discussing this here. After all, open discussions about whether topics are still worth being pinned is good for keeping the forums relevant to their subject.

(EDIT) Damned typos!

Cerbera you're lucky you are still here. We keep you around for our own amusement, and lord knows we take massive pride in that fact. You continue to amuse the public with your faulty logic and horribly skewed planes of thought. Tsuroki's post was entirely acceptable considering you have consistently and repeatedly, for months now, taken a jab at the administration with every opportunity. Had you been a moderator, listening to someone berating your qualifications and competence as a staff member, you would have thrown them out at first sight. You take for granted the liberties which we so generously allow you to keep.

My suggestion to you, sir, is that you straighten up and fly right, or I am personally sending you on a one-way trip to Bansville, courtesy of GTAForums staff. I'm sick and f*cking tired of seeing your mouth/fingers doing nothing but poking, criticizing, and otherwise attempting to make mockery of the hard work we put in around here. Most of us have lives outside of this site yet we still put our hours in when all is said and done. If we did not, this place would not be in nearly the great condition it finds itself in today, and you would have no outlet for your staff hatred other than your ignored website. Many of the staff work full time and come here out of pleasure. Yet we are always bombarded with your ridiculous claims and asinine complaints. Get the f*ck out of here with that nonsense, because it's old and nobody listens to you. You are unwelcome and uninspiring. You make baby Jesus cry.

He cries because he knows he's going to grow up to look like you, but clothed.

Search takes to long.

All of 10 seconds for a search? 60 second flood limit, and at max 10 minutes of filtering the topics? Not to mention theres a contents topic for this forum turn.gif

hmm....blender and max aren't exactly widely covered here, nor is LW for that matter (I know, I need a good LW rendering tut myself). Zmodeler and Sketchup are your best bets here, either that or take a look around other sections of the forum, find out who uses what program, and pester the hell outta them til they help ya smile.gif.

Failing that google it like hell smile.giff*cking post wrappers!

Vice City hasn't been fully modded yet, years after the release. San Andreas has been out a week, most of us experienced GTA fans and modders are no further than you are. wink.gif
