To be frank, I don't really see the point of this.  By having each story title as a link to open the thread it is in, with the author name next to it, you're just making a LESS detailed version of the actual forum listing itself.  If people want to read old stories they'll navigate through to the back pages themselves.  It's a huge piece of work you've done but...what's the point? smile.gif

GWA actually runs pretty well as a standard forum area.  As we found out when I was first granted leadership in this area, trying to organise is a hopeless - and useless - task because the Invision forum displays all the stories well enough in it's standard guise.

uhh yeah. I disagree but uhh ... thanks for that Cerb! dozingoff.gif

Another update too.

So, what is the point of this then? What did you disagree with me on and why?

Well, I just spent the last half an hour to an hour of my life updating this for all you people of the writers forums ... must be between 35-50 more stories and such in there now. Enjoy. smile.gif
I still don't understand what advantage this has over just using the existing architecture of the local forum?

Yes, that's basically it. confused.gif

Cerb, just, please ... do shut up.

If you can't explain why this is useful then it doesn't need to be pinned. There would obviously be no use for it if you can't even think of a reason becase you created it.

I can think of a few reasons, all basically related to the same thing but still.

1) It's an index listing everything quickly and helpfully

2) It prevents you having to click to go to other pages

3) It prevents you having to change the cutoff date because things get old

4) It prevents you having to search through numerous pages to find what you're looking for

All can decrease waiting time, and it would prove handy for 56kers if they can't click about everywhere.

Reason enough?

  1. So is the actual forum.
  2. You have to click to the start page instead of just looking in the actual forum.
  3. Cutoff date allows users to search chronologically. Your table can't do that because the sSearch form is more flexible and useful.
  4. It requires users pick through a series of very large table which use tiny text.
Next!

The other concern after looking at the most recent update to it is the obscene amount of work you, personally, have to put into it. You run a few events and schemes across the forum and having to throw big bagfuls of it into this project which is of no greater value than the infrastructure already present comprimises your other commitments. By scrapping this you could concentrate more fully on your other, more viable projects, imho. smile.gif

1) Yes, but the actual forum is split up into many different pages, which are annoying to search through, especially for 56kers like I have already stated.

2) It takes more clicks to go through other pages

3) Mine is listed alphabetically. turn.gif

4) Ctrl + F, my friend. Ctrl + F.

As for other things around the forum, I don't actively participate in as many things anymore. Yahoo Pool in PGC, doesn't demand too much attention, Own These Places in OGA, doesn't demand that much either. Everything I do in here I group together as being the same type of work to do, so it's not too much added on. smile.gif

It was likely purged. There have been many. We live under an iron fist of the moderators...

Looks like I was right after all. This topic simply is not required, so free yourself from its burden and you'll never have to worry about it again. Ending this would also reduce the number of pinned topics in here. And if the topic is actually of use to people it will show up in their search results.
