I recently hacked up my pickguard to install some toggle switches (on, off, out oh phase for each pickup and two series/parallel switches). The only thing that remains is wiring, which is worrying me. I'll get some pictures of my hackjob and the wiring later.

I'm looking at hopping my bass up before having to buy a completely new one. Aside from the obvious, replacing the pots and strings, I'm looking at this. It's good that each are individual humbuckers. I'll probably go looking for them around the music stores here before trying to get them online.

So my guitar is still on back order still. I have the case and no guitar. I'm giving it another week and a half or I'm going to get my money back and go down to the music store and get that Viper I wanted.

This blows.

Sweet Zombie , i just saw this topic. Well heres my baby;

As you can see its a Maverick X1-Xplorer and imo is the sweetest gutar make to play along side Ibanez. Its has a mental, crushing sound when out through a Boss Metal Zone distortion pedal and then a 100 watt Marshall effects amp. Its brilliantly suited to playing any type of metal. I use it to play mainly thrash and power metal(Fav bands are Megadeth, Testament, Dragonforce, Pantera etc...)

Its my only guitar as i sold my Fender strat but i will have a black Jackson King V soon... viddy_pirate.gif

For what it's worth, I'll force my opinion on you. Those PU's are known for midrange boominess and low end loss. For my money, nobody makes a better low to mid price range PU than Seymour Duncan.

Click me.

This PU is known for a great low end and nice tight mid range, complemented by sparkling highs. For your style, it would be to way to go. I would take the duncan antiquities over it, but that's just my crazy jazz/funk fusion bassist mind trip.

Also, look into this, you will thank me.

The thing is miracle. Sustain for days and turns your action to butter.

Click me.

Lots of guys modding P's have been using this combo to much fan fare.

I'm going to buy a natural stained mexican Jazz one of these days, and buy one of the geddy lee necks that keep poping upon eBay. Man, those things are a dream... I love the vintage 70's neck contour. Plus, the black binding, block inlays, and vintage sytle logo on the headstock? Damn homie...

After that I'll add some Bartolini PU's, an Aguilar 18v preamp, gold badass bridge, and gold gotoh tuners. She should be the sickest taco J on the streets.

Happy modding, now be a man and rip those god damn frets out.

Yeah, the only bad thing I've heard is that a very slight hum can be heard with some electronics, but that hum has always been totally canceled out by touching the strings with your hands.

Yeah, I can understand if they're not noiseless pickups, just as long as they make less noise than mine right now.

Now, by slight hum, I mean a hum that will only be discernible by the pickiest of ears. Audiofiles, extremely picky producers, ect... You will have no problems. Fact of the matter is, these are the very best pickups that you can afford... Not to say that you are poor, but in modding a bass, you need to consider the fact that sometimes, it is really less expensive to get a nicer bass.

Surely a compressor could do the trick there? I know that works with using basses with vintage pickups like the re-issue Fender P's etc

I found out today that my local music shop is closing down so theres a massive sale on, I plan on going down tomorrow for a look to see whats worth picking up on a bargain as my birthday is in 3 days. Though really Id prefer to spend money on a decent camera instead.

Floyd Rose tremolos are a freaking bitch to set up correctly. It took me about 30 minutes earlier to tune and re-tune my Ibanez. Sheesh.

Could anyone here recommend me a nice acoustic (steel string) guitar?

I'm thinking possibly this or this or this. As you can maybe tell, I'm not looking for anything expensive. Just something I can strum along on, at home.

I'm sort of leaning towards the Ibanez as I've heard great things about that guitar.

Gday guys, I'm new to this part of the forum... only just realised it was here not long ago tounge.gif

Some of you guys may have seen me around the PC or general chat... but anyway guitars!

I've been playing for close to three years now, and I've owned this crappy old ashton guitar for too long. So today, I went inot my local music shop (studio 19) and had a look at the Gibson SG's. There was a SG special for 2006 in there... and it was very appealing. It had $2200 (AUD) on the pricetag.

So anyway I talk to Peter, the owner of the store, and we started talking prices. He said that he will knock $500 off it. I was like, YEAH! So anyways I ordered in a black Gibson SG USA 2006, for $1700.

There is a google of it, it should be into the store in around 2 weeks time, so I will post pics of it and my marshall stack then!

I'm also thinking of getting a tele around christmas time... any recommendations there?

I am a cock-gobbler, and I like to gobble cock.

Surely some know of this already, but a cool tip for anyone with a wah pedal, tape a small coin to the padel. What a neat little trick. I'm very happy with it, personally.

Well, with a manual wah, there's a small pad on the underside of the rocker, just above the on/off switch. The pad, in my opinion, is a bit hard to work with, and I'd rather just be able to step on the front end of the rocker and have it done with, right? So, to accomplish this, I took some tape, folded it backwards, stuck a dime to one side and the other to the pad. Now, instead of having that sh*t, mushy pad, you have a nice, hard surface to press down on the switch. In addition to being an incredibly quick and simple modification, the pedal will increase in value (unless you're cheap and decide not to use a coin).

I hadn't realized how horrendously vague I was with the initial post, sorry.

Now, $1700 AUD is about $1300 USD. That's a rediculous price.

Around here, a Gibson SG Special (ebony finish) SHOULD run you from $750-$1000 USD. Dealers with barter with ya if you buy more than a guitar at once, IE save up and buy an amp at the same time and you'll get a better deal.

That being said, I've had my SG (as described above) for about 2 years, and I LOVE IT. It's the most lovable guitar I've ever played, bar none.

Anywhoo, anybody know anyhitng about the Jackson JS30 Randy Rhoads V? I was thinking of getting one just for a shred guitar. I was gonna get the cheap one, since it's only $300, and I have $200 left over from work. Anybody have any experience with these guitars?

I heard the lower model Rhoads suck. I was going to get a $780 one if I got a Rhoads but I ended up going with an ESP Les Paul model, but back to the topic. I'd wait till you get $200 more and then get an RR3.

Nah, see, I don't want the Floyd Rose tremolo. That's little more than a pain in the ass for me, since I don't use one.

Plus, this particular guitar is gonna be a beater.

I just got a new guitar and the strings are filthy - after I play it, my fingers are black. How best to clean the strings? Would a damp sponge be fine, then wiped with a dry cloth? Or would that f*ck it up a bit?

Well, RRP is $2200 right... and I got $500 knocked off that, which I am happy with. This was from the Gibson magazine to music stores... saying what price the store is buying them for, and thats what price I'll be getting sy SG for.

$1700AUD = roughly $1275 USD, yes. But remember this is made in USA, and then the exporting costs, shipping to Australia, then shipping down here to Tasmania. It wouldn't be long before $200 USD odd was used in those costs, then bringing the price of this guitar down to your reccomended price of around $1000.

This price is even better than online prices, even better than ebay, which themselves tend to be very cheap. I'm happy and thats all that matters, and there was nothing else I could really buy to get a better deal. I already have a Marshall head and quadbox... so yeah...

Why not just put new strings on it? Chances are it's been sitting in the shop with dozens of people playing it, I'm sure it could use a change.

Rubbing alcohol seems to work, but I don't know how detrimental that is to the actual strings. You could also try getting one of those cleaning cloths. If you grab the strings through them and rub up and down, you can get a fair amount of dirt off, but I don't think that will work in this situation, where they're encrusted with a mile of sh*t.

I have a bad problem where I manage to, within a week of their purchase, completely trash my strings. I sweat sulfuric acid.
