I cannot stress this enough.

I am in dire need of a new amp.. mine is about to kick the bucket.

JJHW: How do those eBows play, and how much do they generally cost? They seem pretty interesting, to me. I'd like to buy one.

Then, go get a new amp.

Man, I had Jazz Band yesterday. There were 4 guitarists. My god I think I made them all cry. I pulled out the nicest solo. They got SO denied. cool.gif

Not all of us have heaps of money to afford a new amp, silly.

But, yeah, I'm in the same boat as vac. I bought another practice amp that I thought would suffice, but I've already grown tired of it. I'm basically looking at combo amps now, but I really wish i could get a half-stack. That's really stretching it, though, considering I probably won't even be able to get this Crate combo amp I want for $279 off Musiciansfriend.

Aside from that, it's getting rreally tough to be motivated to play. I mean, I just can't stand the distortion on my amp, and my pedal is dying. Even then, the sound barely ever changes no matter how I twist the knobs, and I have to play at low volumes as to not annoy my family members. I just get so uninspired and unmotivated when all I can do is keep making mediocre riffs that are tiresome to the ear, and leads that you can barely hear, with no life to them, because my amp is on such a low volume.

In any event, I've been working on harmonics as of late. Listening to a lot of Judas Preist lately, I've noticed how cool it is to throw in a random pinch harmonic in the middle of the riff. I haven't even been able to play a normal pinch harmonic thanks to my amp (not sayig I could if I had a good amp, it would just allow me to practice and know when I'm doing it right), but I'm getting all right with natral harmonics. I went down to this guitar shop here the other day called the Electro-Mart, and I played a Marshall full-stack using some Ibanez RG with a set neck and whammy. It was so nice to have so much power in my hands; the cool part was that I started playing songs, and people there would fill in the bass and drums parts. Probably the best time I've ever had with a guitar. Maybe even the best time I've had period. In any event, I'm rambling, the harmonics is what was really awesome. I don't know what it was, but I was stringing them together flawlessly. It wasn't really anything to spectacular or special, it was just the first time I've really felt what I was playing.

But, yeah, now I'm stuck back in the spot I was. I have another practice amp, that I can't turn up, and no motivation to play beacuse of it. Maybe I'm just like, spoiled or something, and should stop placing my problems on my equipment. But, damn, it just sound so monotonous after a while, and every time I try to change the sound with an effect, or chaning the levels, it still sounds the same. Very annoying.

Actually, had I not opted for a Les Paul, I probably could've gotten a nice amp AND a relatively better guitar, like a Strat or Mexican Tele.

Eh, just counting the days until it gives up on working.

Also: Not all of us have the time and effort to put into shredding, silly.

Err, E-Bow is awesome, they're £79 over here, probably cheaper on the net...

So I'm forming a new band, and it is going well for us except for the fact that I seem to have lost my ability to keep time. It's kind of embarassing since I've been playing for a long time now....

In the past, I was not a regular metronome user which is probally the problem. Also I haven't played or jammed with any kind of drummer in like 2 years. I think its going to get worse too because I am the vocalist as well as guitarist....

Any tips for me to keep time!? Or do you guys just talk about gear here? turn.gif

Most people just seem to talk about gear. I mean, whenever I've actually asked a question about playing, I haven't gotten much response.

Anyway, I would just start playing to a metronome agin. I realized I can't play in time recentely, too, so I'm going to get one soon.

Gear:

Behringer Electric (Fender Strat copy)

1960's EKO Acoustic

Epiphone classic acoustic

Epiphone semi-acoustic 12-string (my #1 weapon)

Behringer 15 watt practice amp

Influences:

John Butler - one of the main reasons I bought my 12-string, his music is amazing.

There are other guitarists, but they don't really influence me, I just like playing a couple of their songs.

I'm also interested in getting an Ebow, especially since they sound awesome with a slide.

Don't waste your money on a GT-8, find a secondhand GT-6... The local guitar shop tells me it's almost identical, just the patches have different names and stuff, not enough of change to spend extra money at least...

Just had a squizz at Ebows on Ebay, and is AU$139.00 a good price for an Ebow plus? I'll have a look around some music stores here and see if anyone stocks them.

Schecter, maybe? It's not a BC Rich Mockingbird, but the style looks a little similar.

Yeah I was about to say Schecter by looking at the body, the headstock isnt their usual style though so maybe its a Signature Edition?

Thats a pretty hot guitar though.

Holy crap, you people are right, I think. I saw this picture on their site as a link to their 'custom' page, but couldn't actually see the guitar on that page when I got to it.

Edit: It appears the guitar is no longer listed on their site, but I managed to find it via google - it's a Schecter Avenger. Thanks for figuring out it was Schecter fellers, I wanted to know what it was as well, but I'd never heard of Schecter to be honest.

Another picture.

Speaking of Schecter, I hear the C5 Bass is pretty rad. Shame the only UK dealer on the site is up in Glasgow.

I'm a big fan of that Schecter, and to be honest I've never heard of them before.

Just a quick question, any good songs out the that are played on a 12-string? I found 'Wish you are here' by Pink Floyd, and 'Hear my train a coming' by Hendrix.

I'd toss in a few by John Butler Trio if I hadn't checked out their music because of you hehe. But a few good Zeppelin songs come to mind too: Stairway to Heaven, of course, and Over the Hills and Far Away.

Stairway to Heaven is a great song, if overplayed, and the other is a great song that isn't. I'll see if I can think of some more.
