Those multi-necked guitars are crazy, and that Rusty Cooley video is just nuts wow.gif

I need some advice. I'm purchasing a 12-string soon, and since I'm on a cheap budget, I was wondering which would be best. The cheapest acoustic I could find was AU$360, and the cheapest semi-acoustic was AU$499. Now, would the semi just sound crap when hooked up to an amp due to the cheapness? Should I stick with the acoustic 12-string, and just hold a mic up to it when I perform?

I didn't find out the brands yet, I'll call up again tomorrow and see what I can find.

If your looking for quality at a working musician/student price, Yamaha is the brand.

They make good quality products for cheap.

I would look for a 12 string with mahogany sides and back. Those sound really deep and dark and rich. Beautiful sounding. I have a 1969 Yamaha 12 string acoustic, I got it at a pawn shop for $100 with hard case. Its old, but nice, scratched to hell and the body is a bit warped, but it sounds amazing. Maybe its the old mahogany.

As for the acoustic/electic situation, you may want to spring for the acoustic/electric.

You *can* get acoustic pickups that you just clip right into the soundhole. Those work alright, they sound kinda metallic. They're relatively cheap from usually $40-$100 US ($50 - 130 AU) Some sound better than others.

We went inside and I was amazed at the amazing lineup of guitars that samash had to offer. I was so happy to be in a guitar store. Anyway, my dad randomly says to me: pick one. I say to myself: wtf? , yada ,yada I had no clue about guitars still dont know that much. I didnt like rock at all. So I was like well and I chose this one. 2 years later, It still sits there without being played once. The reason is that i dont like hte genre that the guitar is for. The guitar cost $750 bucks and im hoping to sell it someone for around $650. I have changed the strings several times and constantly polish it to remove any fingerprints. I was wondering what I should do with it? I wanted to buy a B.C. Rick Beast like the one in my signature except for maybe the green outline that thatone has. Does anybody have any clue about how much my guitar is worth?

If thats a Mexi strat, it only costs $350 for you basic mexi strat and $400 for the sunburst finish.

If you paid $750 for that, Im afraid that you were royally screwed.

There is NOTHING wrong with that guitar. Get a humbucker in the bridge position, something with high output, and it will smoke that silly little BC Rich. They make awful guitars anyway, unless you get the really high up ones.

Dude, there is nothing wrong with that guitar. What genre do you think it is limited to? confused.gif Seriously getting a different one would just be a waste of money, because I doubt you would play that one either. Sell it to someone who wants to learn and will play it.

Any guitar doesnt mean like a $4,000 guitar. This gutiar happened to be in the price range of it. I wasnt screwed for the guitar either. I bought it at Sam ash so yeah. (Samash = big instrument chain thats cheaper then other places) and I also said it is 2 years old. SO it may not be like the other ones. Notice the color of the neck. Ive seen my guitar in several magazines with almost the same or the same body type but different necks and stuff like that. Oh yeah, and Ive had lots of people about 20 tell me that my guitar wont play heavy metal which is what I want to play. (reason why I want a b.c.rich) my friend has the nj beast with the gear body art and he plays Iron Man just like the song and he plays many other wicked solos as well. It was his first guitar. He later bought a $300 strat and ended up returning it because it played like crap. Anyone know what the resale value of my guitar might be?

First of all to get a bc rich your gonna have to spend upwards of 800$ for a decent model and not some sh*tty bronze series one. If you want to play metal go for either a jackson or and ibanez.

First of all from reading your posts, it seems to me you don't know how to play, so why would you spend that kind of money on a guitar like that to find out that maybe this isn't for you. My freind got a BC Rich Beast, the on in sixdust's sig for 600 bucks brand new, the tuning keys are at the bottom, under the bridge, it's a bad ass guitar...

And uh, just becuase he can play Iron Man on it, honestly thats not sayin much, I can play Iron man just like the recording on a f*ckin berhinger I got for 80 bucks, it also depends on the amp and the pedals, it's not just the guitar...

EDIT: Wtf is up with the quote...?

Hey, I DO know what im talking about. If it is the standard MIM strat, they cost $350-400 new, and have a resell price of $200-300.

They dont play like crap if they are properly set up, just like ANY guitar. One of the things you should learn is how to set up your guitar. That strat is one of the EASIEST guitars to intonate (calibrating the saddles for correct pitch adjustment to counterbalance the height of the strings off the fretboard.) and adjust the action (height of strings above the frets).

If 20 people have told you that that WONT play heavy metal, they probably dont know very much about guitars or metal. Take ANY 80's metal band, chances are they're guitarist used a Strat-like guitar (either a modded fender or a Charvel or Jackson, I.e Iron Maiden, Ratt, Dio, Dokken, Judas Priest, any real metal band ) If you put a humbucker in the bridge position (where the pickup that is closest to the bridge is now), you will have an insane metal machine. I will agree, the single coil pickups you have in there now are not very good for metal, but if you replace the bottom one with a "metal" humbucker like a Dimarzio 2XN or Super Distortion, it will be a metal machine.

The guitar plays a very very small role in the overall tone of the sound. If you want to play metal, you must get a high-gain amplifier. You also must have SKILL to play solos and sound like Toni Iommi. If you are good enough to solo, you should be able to solo on a banjo and it should still be a smoking solo. Owning a BC rich will NOT make you sound any more like Black sabbath than a Fender.

If you dont like the guitar, fine, then sell it and get a nasty all-black BC rich. But selling it because somebody else told you that "it cant play metal" is rediculous. Just put a Dimarzio in it, prove all those people completely wrong and proudly enjoy the Strat, one of the most ingeniously designed instruments in guitar history.

What kind of heavy metal do you play?

See, any guitar can play any style genre. Its just that some guitars have fit in the scene a little better because of previous players. Hendrix paved the road for Strats and blues rock, Metallica gave way for the funky looking guitars and heavy metal, and I dont know what emo's deal is with Les Pauls... but, just take the mexi strat and fix that bugger up. You can make it a lot more worthwhile than a BC Rich.

Humbuckers are the shiznit for metal and balls!

Any good Gibson guitar and a Marshall cabinet is the ultimate combo

for metal, hands down.

Before buying a left-handed guitar, you should probably just flip yours upside down (and reverse the strings) to see if it's more natural. Then if it does feel good that way (and you don't like playing upside down) then you could sell yours and buy a lefty guitar.

You should invest in a used Dimarzio pickup for about $50 and get that installed, and then I would start saving up for a good amp. I would look for something with tubes, but that can be really expensive. For some reason with tube amps, high gain comes with a high price. But there are some ways to get a good amp for less than $1000

Good Idea for a Metal Guitarist:

Patienly browse ebay until you see a good deal on a Peavey 5150 combo. They usually run about $500 and sound GREAT and have an amazing amount of gain, due to 6 (!!) 12AX7's preamp tubes in the preamp. The combos have two 12 inch speakers, 60 watts of TUBE power (which would be about 180 watts on a Solid state amp - - LOUD)

If you feel you need a halfstack, I personally wouldn't go the "head and 4x12" route. Get the combo. The combo will do EVERYTHING the head does, and can even drive a full stack ( 2 cabinets). You can get a 2x12 extension cab or just a 4x12 cab, and the combo will sit on top and drive it with ease.

If you get the combo, and your band phones up and wants to have band practice, you can just take the combo, insead of looking at your cab and head in disgust, knowing you have to lug that thing all the way to practice. Because you HAVE to take the cab, a head wont work on its own like the combo will.

Only negative I see on this plan, is that the 5150 has no clean channel, which may or may not be a problem. You can get a pretty clean sound, by switching to the rhythm channel and turning down the gain and rolling back on the guitar's volume, and select one of the single coils (single coils are handy to have once in a while)

bomb the music industry

I don't have a picture of my guitar but I've got a mexican telecaster that I just play through a boss DS-1 distortion pedal into a fender blues junior amp. My next upgrade is probably gonna be a new amp once I get some money. I really like fender amps for some reason so I'll probably end up going with one of those again. As for the guitar I'll probably keep that for a while as I don't see any need for a different one. I'm in a ska band and the twangy sound out of the tele is perfect. cool.gif
