frogon1
A few days ago, I downloaded windows media player 9. It changed all the vc movie files to windows media player type. When I go to play them (GTAtitles, and Logo) outside of the game, they have green horazontal lines, through the entire movie. Then when I click on the exe file, it starts to load and gives me the illegal shut down stuff. I uninstalled windows media player, so they were unkown file tyes, and it still did the same thing. Wolf68k
What do you mean you changed them over to the Windows Media Player type? Those movies where MPEG1 to start with, nothing needed to be changed. And I've played them in WMP dozens of times for one reason or another with no problems at all. Even if for some stupid reason you changed the extention from .mpg to .wmv WMP is smart enough to read the file and use the right codec. As for why it's not playing in the game, if you did change the extention from .mpg then just change it back. You can replace the Logo.mpg and GTAtitles.mpg with any mpg you want, as long as the file names are correct and the files are MPEG1 with any resolution, VC will still play like normal. I just tried it with a short mpg clip I have and instead of the R* logo I saw....well I can't say what I saw but you get the idea. Demarest
He means the file association changed. @frogon1: Why did you "upgrade" in the first place? Was your old Media Player not doing what you wanted it to? Because I still use WMP 6.4 and have never had any issues. Wolf68k
The file association shouldn't even be a factor. If I change the file association for MPGs from WMP to notepad, VC will still read it as a MPG. Changing the file's extension would more than likely, however, upset VC //Edit Let me take that back, if you change the file's extension VC won't even play it. If the file is MPEG1 and named correctly, VC should play it just fine. I've even done some test using AVIs (using the standard codec only so far) and a wmv file; the avi renamed 'Logo.mpg' got stretched but played fine other wise, the wmv renamed 'Logo.mpg' didn't play at all. I haven't tried DivX encoded avis yet. I think there is something else going on that he's not telling or forgot or something. Demarest
I don't know. Installing anything by Microsoft can mess with your system in so many ways. I think it's possible that simply trying to upgrade WMP could affect it. I know that file association shouldn't matter. I'm assuming that the PC version was meant to automatically take advantage of the standare mplayer2 module that has been present in every windows since 98. That's also why I believe that installing a newer version COULD affect it. frogon1
@demarest: I really don't know why I upgraded, but for some reason I just felt like it. Do you think I should download the older version again? wolf, I didn't change anything but installing wmp, and when I go to see what type of file it is, it is .mpg. Edit: I re-downloaded wmp 7 and installed it and it works now. Demarest
That's really weird. I wonder if somehow the game "knows". I only suspect that because when I upgraded from a 4600 to a 9700, my GTA3s would ALWAYS convert textures for video card. But once I fresh installed, it only did the once. Weird... frogon1
Well, I re-instlled the old version and it worked. Then after a few loadings of the game, I installed the new version, and now it works. Don't know what happened there. Wolf68k
Glad to see you finally got it working...just don't let it happen again..hehe..j/k If it does, just rename the files to anything you want and VC won't even bother loading them. Right now mine are named Logo.mpg-old and GTAtitle.mpg-old I get a black screen for a bit, hit enter and I'm at the title screen and then the menu Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/121539-intro-movie/#findComment-1422475 Share on other sites
