I have made good progress on the cop, he is nearly at the final stages. Please post any bugs you see on this model and I will try to fix them, I have already noticed a couple.

Nice job MM, getting those feet sorted out really makes him look so much better. I'm guessing the elongated hands are probably going to be the next priority, although I noticed as soon as he bunches his fists it's no longer an issue.

 

Only other things I can comment on are that his utility belt still distorts a little and the shoulders are little boxy. Other than that watching him run's now poetry in motion, very cool. smile.gif

I can't really figure out why his fists do that, I have tried fixing the bone weight but that still doesn't seem to fix it. I didn't notice that his belt distorts. Now his shoulders are squared like that because when I smoothen them out his arms are half way in his torso.

 

I think the best way to fix it is to import the patched model again and do all the bones from scratch.

 

Thanks for noticing the bugs killer.ip, but you didn't notice the back of his arms, there are vertices that point out when he runs.

Quite a subtle fault, luckily somewhat camouflaged by his dark uniform. wink.gif

 

Check out the corner vertex on the pouch he's wearing:

As his legs move forward those corner vertices follow the motion springing back as the leg moves backwards. I don't really know enough about bone modelling to really say, but could it be that they're part of the same structure and therefore be difficult to separate?

 

I'd actually like to learn a little more about this at some point, when I get some free time I'll sit down and see what I can understand. Be pretty cool getting at least one of these guys in-game. biggrin.gif

The reason why part of his pouch is moving with his leg is because that vertice is assigned to the L Thigh vertice group, so that means it will move with his thigh.

 

 

but could it be that they're part of the same structure and therefore be difficult to separate?

It's a very simple fix, all I would need to do is remove that vertice from the L Thigh vertice group.

I have found 2 probs but I have no pictures because of ma puter:

<1> Looks carefully at the garage on the first island where the banshee is, one of the glass panels is slightly out of place there is a slight gap. Looks carefully enough and ya will see it, unless its just ma game.

 

<2> Dam I had another prob but I forgot, is it possile to jump to locations (co-ordinates) using teleport with the main.scm or not, I thought I heard it was, maybe I was wrong. If so I could show ya the problem.

I get that.

There's also a problem with one of the textures at the train station near there, I'll get a screenshot when I go on my main computer.

If you also have the problem it must be a problem unless this has been fixed and the releese has not come owt yet.

As Hammer stated, CreateProcess is the way to go when attempting to create an external loader for the game.

 

You are starting to leak over to what we are doing in MTA, with the loading and all, so if you run into issues or need some help just toss me a line anytime and I will see what I can do.

Does it fix the glass of the building opposite the subway station in Chinatown (you know, there is a hidden package inside).

 

Demarest, VC doesn't do that indeed. It stops at some time and never grows anymore.

In what way do you mean? The problem with the glass at the car dealers is that one of the panes had a gap to one side, as far as I know the glass is lined up perfectly next to the subway station.

They're fine on my game, except for the fact that they're not just see-thru, they're invisible. The glass can't be seen until yu go thru' it. Oh, and the ceiling in that room flickers. confused.gif

Have you installed the fix for the transparent glass? Included are textures that give them a level of opacity, once it's installed you should be able to see the panes.

 

The flickering roof won't be present in the release, in the meatime have a play with the flag in the following line found in industNE.ide:

521, usdcrdlrbuild01, 8balls, 1, 100, 0

 

If the office windows in the dealers are showing unusual transparency effect's setting the flag to 4 should sort them out. wink.gif

I have the glass fix installed. Here is what I get:

JasonB, do you use VB .NET or VB6? I just ran the following code on VB .NET and had no trouble what so ever. BTW, I took it directly from MSDN:

I had the fix installed, but my generic.txd had been updated from a different update/fix (it was dated Feb 14th 2004) which didn't contain the "window" entry, so that seems to have been the problem.

So I've reinstalled the fix, and now all is well.

As for playing with the line in industNE.ide .. I have no idea what the flags do so I wouldn't know where to start to change it. blush.gif

i cant stand VB .NET so i still use good ol VB6, and they completely changed the syntax and everything in the .NET version and i dont want to have to learn it again, but perhaps i should. VB6 is getting outdated rather quickly now.

The window problem is what I also had, it seems to happen when you change the textures around, currently I use a the xbox textures which are special for this window problem, try exporting the gtaiii.txd then deleting the one in the img and then add the gtaiii.txd that you extracted and re-build. This may do the trick. Alternatively just try adding the gtaiii.txd that comes in the transparent window fix but not the other files in it. smile.gif

I have some other probs and they will be up soon, I hope. biggrin.gif

 

[EDIT] My pics wont upload so I will explain them instead.

[1] On the first island by the basketball pad there is a building with a puddle outside, look into this puddle carefully and its actually transparent you can see the underground road.

Location face outta the hideout turn left go alon the main road until you rach the end where it starts to go down to the cafe part. Turn on the road before the road dips and its around there, that building. Looks carefully and ya will see.

 

[2]On the first island where the hospital is, ride a bike past the front alongside it the road starts to rise up to a junktion. When you hit the rise on the bike the camera zoomes into the player model for some reeson and then goes back normal.

Indeed, in fact getting the windows to work is about getting 3 things in the right place at the right time:

 

- glassfx55.dff from the fix pack, make sure it's the only file of it's type in gta3.img

- gtaiii.txd needs to have the textures window & window_alpha, they're the last entry so shouldn't be difficult to find

- temppart.ide needs to use the following line

394, glassfx55, gtaiii, 1, 100, 1028

 

James, good to hear you got it working. The flag is the last number in an IDE entry and can set many of the object's properties, especially how it's alphas behave. If it has no alpha layers it's usually set at 0, and if it does have them it's set at 4. This allows the game to display the transparency correctly without any unusual artifacts (although in practice this isn't usually quite so cut & dried).

 

Almost forgot, that glass railing at the AmCo building's finally been taken care of... real pain in the ass for the longest time. It's flag just needed to be set correctly. blush.gif

Ok, i made one of these a while ago, but it was simple and only worked on a few things, so i said id make one to release, and so i did. If you havnt already moved your city then MOVEIT! and you might need this to help.

 

I moved one of the flight data and i moved the paths, but i never got round to the other flight data, so you can do that now with this.

 

Its in the LC forum cos its made for GTA:LC but i see no reason why no-one else could use it.

Nice work man, no problems with the UI although it shares the same 'feature' as ZModeler in that you need to add the extension as you save. No problem for all the ZMod users out there for whom that's second nature by now.

 

That's the Polmav/L-Train back to moving on it's usual route again which is cool, although it's a shame we can't do anything about the hard coded nature of it's lean. For anyone unclear as to which file needs editing it's flight3.dat found in /data/paths. wink.gif

i have two ideas for unofficial mods:

 

>raise the ghost town to the land level of shoreside vale, and extend the city around the back of shoreside, using the tunnels as access there.

 

>use the story line of vice city but with the models of liberty city, eg. the 1st scene:

 

rather than tommy being attacked by diaz's boys at vice city docks;

FIDO or whatever you call him, being attacked by chunky lee chongs triads at the LC docks

 

and here are ideas for character switches:

So heres the basic storyline; Tommy Vercetti is now 50 years old, he returns to Liberty City with his gang to meet Salvatore, and warn him of the Forelli brothers wanting revenge for Sonny's death, Tommy goes to the medieval millenium fair and is told by a gypsie woman that his past will reflect itself in the times that come, these thoughts haunt Tommy throughout the game.

 

FIDO goes down with Joey Leone and a bodyguard to meet Ray the Lawyer, they are sent by Salvatore Leone, Ray drives them to the meet at the docks and 8Ball's brother, Joey and the bodyguard are killed, Salvatore is infuriated at the death of his only Son, and tells FIDO to get all the money and the drugs and to kill the bastards responsible, also Salvatore is aware that the same people are after him so has to stay at home, but FIDO and 8 Ball are arrested on their way out of the docks. They are busted out of a police convoy by the Mafia, and the bridge is blown up, access is available only through the tunnel. Tommy inherits Joey's garage in Portland view, he hears of the bad news and warns Fido to watch himself.

 

Later on while FIDO is beating up ?(Mr Teal) after talking to ?(Kent Paul), 8 Ball finds him and introduces himself. FIDO meets Donald Love through Ray, and crashes the funeral of King Courtney, while dressed up as a South Side Hood.

FIDO does missions for both sides of that vicious gang war.

 

FIDO meets Miguel, a colombian Sea Pirate and does missions for him, at the same time meets 'Chunky' Lee Chong of the Triads and saves his life in another deal with the SS Hoods that gets busted by some Yardies. FIDO starts working for Lee Chong, then realizes it was him who busted the deal, stole the drugs and the money, and killed every1 but 8 Ball, Ray and FIDO.

They go to Salvatore and tell him of this, Gang War breaks out and 8 Ball and Fido are asked to inflitrate the Triad Base and kill Lee Chong.

 

Fido and 8 Ball keep the triads hideout to themselves, and start working for themselves, Luigi is killed in a Triad driveby and Salvatore asks Fido to take over Luigi's NightClub. Fido and Ray organise a bank job by getting ?(Cam Jones), Tanner and Phil Cassidy to raid the bank(the one in ghost town preferably).

 

Fido meets El Burro and his hispanic gang in a bar near Hepburn Heights, he works for El Burro so that he can provide security for ?(Lovefist)

 

Fido helps Miguel to flee Liberty City because the Yakuza are causing him trouble, Fido is told to look after his Ex-girlfriend, Catalina.

 

Fido starts getting successful with his own business, more successful than Salvatore's profits, so Salvatore starts sending men to tax Fido's businesses, but Fido does not allow it. Salvatore is infuriated and visits Fido's base and asks for the money or his life. 8 Ball was going to inherit half of Fido's riches if he went on Salvatores side, everything goes pear shaped and Fido is on the floor, 8 Ball has his guns pointed at him. Suddenly, Tony Cipriani comes in with two of his men and tells 8 Ball and Salvatores men of how actually it was Salvatore who killed Luigi and Blamed the Triads because of the gang war, because Salvatore wanted the club to himself. And how Salvatore was going to kill 8 Ball after killing Fido so he could have everything to himself, Salvatores men arent convinced and point their guns at Tony Fido 8 Ball and Tony's men. As if by magic, Tommy Vercetti raids the house and has all of Salvatore's men at gun point, and Salvatore, and tells them to drop the guns. 8 Ball turns to Salvatore and without hesitation, shoots him between the eyes. Salvatore drops dead, there is a short burst of fire in which all Salvatores men are killed, and Tommy is shot, he says he is not capable of being a boss and asks if both gangs could join forces under Fidos control. Fido agrees, and Ray drives Tommy to hospital. 8 Ball apologises to Fido for nearly turning to Salvatore's side, and Fido accepts his apology.

Fido becomes head of the Mafia and the Vercetti gang.

 

>AND, if theres still space... Miguel returns to Liberty city and Catalina organises a bank heist with the help of Fido and Miguel but this is simply her own way to get rid of Fido, because she is suspicious that Fido is cheating on her for Maria Leone. Fido gets shot through the throat and is muted, on the getaway route Miguel accidentally runs Kenji down and Yakuza witnesses tell Asuka.

 

When in hospital, he is kidnapped by the Yakuza, and asked to prove his banished loyalty for the Triads by completely wiping them out. The Yakuza are convinced and he runs free, he falls in love with Maria who is friends with Asuka and starts doing favors for Donald Love, then runs into Catalina and Miguel after tracing a package there. Catalina shoots Miguel and escapes with the case, Asuka tortures and interrogates Miguel for information on the colombian Cartel. Fido shoots down a Cartel Chopper entering the Airport and takes their drug packages in one mission. In another, he teams up with 8 Ball once again to blow up the cartel's ship. He returns to Asuka to find her dead and a note says if you want to see Maria alive come alone and unarmed to the mansion on Shoreside Vale with $500,000 dollars.

 

When Fido gets there he gives the money but they keep Maria and try to kill him. He kills the Cartel henchmen and takes their guns, and follows Catalina's Hunter helicopter, in his own helicopter, to the Cochrane Dam. Catalina drops off Maria and Trys to kill Fido with the Hunter's rockets, but Fido shoots the Hunter down and kills Catalina.

 

He marries Maria and becomes the Godfather.
