yeah , without the help of Skidz, it would still be a mistery, Sorry Demarest to heard that you worked over 5 hours on that and didn't found the prob sad.gif but still, it's resolved now (almost) only need to fix this shadow texture.... but anyway, no shadow, not important anyway tounge.gif

[EDIT] About the escalator, yeah, they are in teh airport ( those from the VC airport) so it must means that all those at the other places should be here too... need to find how to removed them then, I hope it's not in the exe....

anyway, now let's stunt in that airport! biggrin.gif

Here's what you do for the sake of completeness. Open up data/gta3maps/landsw/landsw.ipl Comment out the lines

...3147, airpshadows01, -1268.43, -841.328, 12.1666, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1...#3150, airpshadows04, -1486.01, -859.113, 10.0961, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1#3151, airpshadows05, -1255.59, -807.726, 10.0981, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1...

...by placing a # in front of them. This way, the game won't load them, but they'll still be in your IMG for later when we correct the problem.

The escalators are the ones in the airport terminal as seen in their 6 locations.

According to Hollower, they ARE in the EXE. At least the references to them are. If somebody could replace the model "Esc_step.dff" with one that has no size as well as replace its COL with an empty one, the EXE references shouldn't effect it any longer. The escalators from Washington Mall are underground and the ones from North Point are way off the map.

I'm off to make an airport friendly SCM smile.gif

Skids your problem sounds like mine when I first started (moved the placement but the col stayed the same) It was killer.ip who told me to keep my local axis the same and when I did it it all worked out. Good work on the airport glitch guys.

Im off to bed now so I dont have time to look at it.

MarkPagliaro: I'll have to look at that. When I was doing the models im pretty sure I left the local axis the same as it origanally was.

Btw, are you adding a new side to the model or just turning the CULL off somehow? I wanna get into this becouse it looks like a big job.

skidz

Mark Pagliaro

I couldn't get around culling although I would love too but what I did was add faces. When you do this or when you unite two or more objects the local axis is thrown off. I have a method that is fast so you don't have to manually create faces but my instruction writing techniques are not the greatest. The problem with this bug is it effects so many dff files and you need to know the txd files that go with them to correct the problem.

airpshadow will not read in gta reshack but it will read in txdviewer so I took the one directly out of GTAIII and it still freezes.

This way, the game won't load them, but they'll still be in your IMG for later when we correct the problem...

That should take care of it for you.

[EDIT] Okay, Here's an updated SCM. The new spawn point is at the airport so you can go horse around or take the bridge back to the rest of Liberty. Or just spawn a Hunter and go wherever you want. Also, the heli on the helipad at the back of the airport has been removed and replaced with a Sea Sparrow. I'm working on the one on Kenji's roof, but for now, I can't.

I also tried restoring the 3 Dodos from GTA3 when I ran into a problem that I'll need help on. Based on Delfi's work, I tried replacing the RCBaron with the Dodo from GTA3. I gave it an updated handling line and replaced the model and texture with the Dodo's. They appear in-game, but have 4 wheels instead of 3. Also, it still handles JUST like an RCBaron except now it's much larger and heavier, so it doesn't fly. I even tried telling default.ide to use the DODO handling and it would not work. If anybody knows how to get the Dodo into the game properly, I'll re-release the SCM with them in it. Thanks.

Demarest I just came up with a brilliant idea (I hope).

On the film studio lot in Vice City, there are set pieces from GTA III that work fine without any technical flaws. Will those be of any help in the quest to find out how everything should work with textures/alphas?

Should those be used as a reference?

Well seeing as how those are already in VC without issue, they probably won't be needed.

UPDATE: Here you can DL an updated models/col/generic.col file that removes the escalators from VC. You STILL have to comment out the IPL lines mentioned before, but now you won't have to worry about running into the escalators anymore smile.gif

Wow, thats a lot of posts! You sure you guys only been drinking coffee? blink.gif

I'm afraid this is going to get quite long, so before you get stuck in, you can find the Portland Station fix right here. That should knock those on the head. I've tried to make the following tutorial as simple as possible, but if anyone would like to add something or point something out just let me know.

2D Single Sided Texture Fix using Zmodeler

Tools required

Moo Mapper

GTA3 IMG

Resource Hacker

Zmodeler

Moo Mapper - Note: Landscape+Mouse interaction - left button scrolls, right button rotates & wheel zooms.

1. Open Moo Mapper, use the All Models + All Textures setting.

2. In the right hand panel click one of the 15 entries to load that part of the city.

3. Zoom out to show the area you've loaded.

4. Using a combination of zooming, scrolling & rotating to bring the view close enough to see the object you are interested in.

5. Double-click the object to bring up the Item Editor Dialogue, it's DFF filename will be found in the Model Name entry.

6. Click the Texture Display button at the top of Moo Mappers window, this will identify the TXD filename.

7. Close Moo Mapper, run IMG Tool and extract both files you have found. Before you do so however, please read the note below.

Zmodeler - Note: To use Res Hack you will need access to an uncompressed gta3.img file. Res Hack will not read DXT compressed files. An uncompressed gta3.img can be found in both the automatic & manual downloads of GTA3:LC.

1. Extract the image files as TGA's from the TXD file using Res Hack making sure they go into the folder containing the relevant model file.

2. Import your model file into ZModeler.

3. In the object list on the bottom right copy the main model object you will be working with, then copy it again.

4. Name the first copy - axis -, and the second copy - reorient -.

5. At this point make a note of the main objects name in the object list.

6. You should now have all the relevant files:

- the original model + accessory objects

- an object called - axis - (this will provide a local axis reference later)

- an object called - reorient -

7. In the object list, hide everything apart from - reorient -, make sure you are at the Object Level then select it's mesh.

8. Choose the 'Modify > Reorient' tool, then click - reorient -'s mesh.

9. Bring up the original object so you now have two visible objects (normal version + reoriented version).

10. In one of the windows select them both with the Quadr Tool at Object Level, and join them with the 'Create > Objects > UniteSelect' tool.

11. Zmodeler will ask you to assign a name, leave it as Union, click Ok.

12. Now rename the Union object to it's original name you noted earlier, then hide it.

13. Unhide the - axis - object, and select the following 'Select > Local Axis > Copy' tool.

14. With the Local Axis Copy tool click the mesh of - axis - to copy it's local axis. That's the end of this object usefulness, it can now be deleted.

15. Unhide your new United Object Model, then left-click it to update it's Local Axis.

16. Export the model and you're done.

Hope this helps. It looks fairly long, but like anything in Zmod, do it once and you're set to go. colgate.gif

Thanks to MarkPaglio for the brainstorming, between us we've pared the process down to what you see before you. rah.gif

...you can find the Portland Station fix right here. That should knock those on the head...

And for the lazy, here is an autoinstaller script for GTA Mod Installer v4.1

//In Order to Install This Mod With An Installer, You Need to Download//The GTA Mod Installer from www.GTA3HQ.com or www.GTAViceHQ.com[modname]Portland Station Fix[addtogta3img]ind_land125ind.dff[addtogta3img]nrailsteps.dff[addtogta3img]nrailstepswest.dff[addtogta3img]overpassind.dff[addtogta3img]rail_platformw.dff

Remember to copy and paste that as a new text file and then save it as "installscript_gtavc.txt" without the quotes in the same directory as the DFFs from killer.ip's ZIP smile.gif

[EDIT] Just tried them out. As per usual, fabulous work, killer.ip! Thank you for all of your help. That goes for everybody. I'm a bit surprised at how well and how fast this is coming along. Got a long way to go, but seeing progress like this makes it feel more in reach smile.gif

Edited by Demarest

so i just need to paste the script to notepad and i will have the mod? No need to have zmodeler and moomapper? Well are u planning on releasing GTA:LC v0.1? Because well it's too much things to do manually...

@killer.ip u sure your patch fixes all 2ds?

So don't DL it. We're all working too hard to be so concerned about somebody not wanting to play who chooses the member title "GTAWO rox." Besides, Knux has even gone through all the trouble of centralizing a DL point. And the files themselves are far more playable then they were during the 4-5 months that GTAWO and LC2004 had their hands on them...

[EDIT] As killer.ip's post and filenames indicate, they fix all Portland rail stations. If you want more done and faster, pitch in! smile.gif

Edited by Demarest

stunning work u all doing

its just a bit confusing if u dont wanna read through everything to what u need

so it would be a very good thing if maybe the first post could be edited with updates

or a list to wich files users have to get so they can have the newest version.

i myself dl'd the "wo" version but deleted it again lol

now i have no clue what to get.. i dont mind playing with files.. that all i do with vice these days anyhow hehe

keep it up guys rah.gif

killer.ip u sure your patch fixes all 2ds?

I take it you're talking about the DXT Textures fix? I'm afraid it's my own fault for creating the confusion surrounding that file. It's actually meant to address a different issue altogether, in that too many 32bit textures loaded at once will cause the game to stop rendering things like roads, buildings etc. I've updated this page to reflect that.

It's not all that noticeable just yet... because things are still relatively bare, only a few cars, peds that sort of thing. But, as you add more of those into the mix, plus all the custom cars I know everyones going to enjoy putting in, it means the engine has to be as lean as it can be. That's it, that's all that patch does... and will do more of as the project progresses.

@blaer - totally man! I'm finding I'm going back pages to update links, hehe. Knux got on the case though, so you'll find our central database (as it were) right here. There's still a few files of mine to link to, but apart from that you should find everything there. colgate.gif

@Dem - glad you're enjoying the finished metro system, between Mark & myself we should make some good progress with the rest of these objects. smile.gif Oh yeah, 2D lampposts keep crashing Zmod so I'll try opening those in 3ds, and 2D vegetation needs some major experimenting as well, hehe. sly.gif

Great work, Knux. Demerast, you should put together all of the current mods and files (updated paths, parked cars like in GTA3, make all of the main.scm files into one and so on) and make GTA:LC Beta 0.1. Just an idea, because in almost every post there is a new update. which is a good thing!

Mark Pagliaro

I am working in patching up some of the trees (to fix the single-sideness) But when I export the material settings don't save (glowing alpha) therefore when ingame the trees appear as green blocks.

any suggestions (This occurs alot perhaps there is an error in olegs dff filter) doesn't matter if exported as vice or as gta3

I'll be gone this weekend and a couple of days next week (of course Christmas) so I won't be able to go online however since my game is installed on my laptop (the computer I use to mod aswell) I will still be working on some fixes.

To all who are working on the single-sideness I am currently working on treepatch01_sub.dff to treepatchttwrs.dff (66 files) and firescapa (which I am getting the same problem with alphas)

I will be adding install script for all future downloads.

Okay folks, here's one last update before I head off down to the South Coast for Christmas. You can find the Bridges & Pylons fix, as per usual, right here. Addressed in this release are: The Understructure of the Callahan Bridge, the Superstructure of the Shoreside Vale Lift Bridge and the General Structure of three sets of Pylons around Liberty. wink.gif

Thanks for the heads up Lix, I think we may have missed it otherwise. music.gif

Demarest, your mod to get rid of the collision for the stairs in the airport dosent work. I opened it up with a collision editor and the stairs still had collision. I also tryed to fly through the stairs but to no avail. You might want to fix the file and upload it again.

I must've zipped up the wrong COL file somehow. Anyways, the same link should have the updated file now. Please let me know if it somehow still doesn't work.

@killer.ip: Good work once again. Looks great. You do really fast work! You will be missed while you're gone. Happy holidays!

Thanks Dem, Mark's doing battle with the pesky Liberty vegetation at the mo, so he should have some updates soon. The 56k line down South's not so hot, but there's still a few wee things I can turn my hand to... in the middle of munching mince pies I'll find some time to post another update. colgate.gif

You do really fast work!

Hehe, thanks again, but it's all down to the method Mark & I came up with, I think we've come a long way in understanding this in the past few days. smile.gif

Have fun folks, enjoy!

I know. Somebody in another thread was asking about that and I referred them to your tutorial here smile.gif

On a side note, I've tried my hand at blanking out the water splashing from the skimmer (particle.txd/waterwake). It doesn't work. For whatever reason, that texture is applied differently. If we could store transparent BMPs as both the texture and alpha in the TXD, it would work. Don't know how (if it's possible). Also, the water spray that appears on the "camera lens" during rains and such appears to be hard coded. Oh well, I tried.

[EDIT] Currently working on converting code. What I did before was just tedious text editing. Now I'm getting more into conceptual conversion between the engines which is going to equate to lots of debugging and slow progress. I will be partially stunted until a functional GXT is formulated...

ghost_master2000

did you guys ever get teh city moved 100 units to the west?

If not let me know and I'll whip upp a tool real quick. And for Knux, I can make something real quick to move your paths over also, so your work won't be wasted. I'm working on some c++ classes right now to open all kinds of files in gta3 and vice city so people can whip up tools themselves rather quickly.

@gm2k: Actually, we would need everything moved west about 300 units according to my calculations. AND if we're going to bother moving the entire city, we should also raise it up 6 units so that all water data will match up. Is it true that we'd only have to edit all the IPL files? Or is there more? I know I would have to adjust all coords in the SCM, but it would be worth it to have a FULLY playable city. Let me know.

Just so you guys know, moving the city will most likely REINTRODUCE the airport bug, just not necessarily at the airport. With any luck, the escalators will then be buried under the mountain and/or in the middle of nowhere. This would mean we would have to also adjust ALL the water up the same amount to match. Also don't forget that there is an area that crashes the game to the west of SSV as you're heading back to ghost town (which would be renamed ghostmaster2000 town if all goes well wink.gif ). Moving the city could make this crash zone interfere with the map itself. For these reasons, the moved map files should be tested out by a couple team members before being released to the public just so we don't cause any more chaos than we already are. Anybody opposed to this idea should speak now before it's too late.

UPDATE Nomad v3 is now available. I've added VC's insane stunt jump thread to it (as well as moved the spawn point to the airport like before). The good news is that wheelies, stoppies, and 2 wheels are also going to be tracked. The bad news is that things like PERFECT insane stunt jumps and Dodo flight times will NOT be tracked. Not to mention that the money awarded will be more to VC's flavor than GTA3. This was done for the sake of simplicity as well as added support for the bikes. Grab it here. Here are some screens

im not sure if any of you will care but im making a modified EXE for the game. its not a No-CD crack liek WO had, its a EXE that will allow Vice City and GTA:LC to be in the same folder but share some common files. Along with having the different Data and Model folders, there are also different save game folders as well as some other stuff, im still working on it though
