I cant get it to work, done everything.

 

When I run gta-lc.exe it says;

 

"Unable to determine the version of gta-vc.exe

GTA Liberty will not be executed"

 

think it might have something to do with "vcversion.dll", although it is from the 2.7update version so it should work. Can someone post a working one?

 

When I run gta-vc.exe, it looks like its going to work, but crashes when I try to start a new game.

Also in the shortcut "Target" why type:

"C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Liberty City\gta-lc.exe" -showconfig

 

Is this correct? Do I have to change something?

You'd be right in assuming that it's got something to do with vcversion.dll - this is a module that Hammer83 created that determines which version of VC you are running, and converts the memory offsets to the 1.0 US version.

 

It should work as long as the vcversion.dll is in your main LC folder (along with gta-vc.exe and gta-lc.exe). The version in the 2.7up package is the most up-to-date version.

 

Do you know which version of VC you are running (Aussie, 1.0 US, 1.1 US, German, etc.)?

 

Also, you don't run gta-vc.exe to play LC - you must run the launcher (gta-lc.exe) wink.gif.

 

As for your question about the shortcut target, as long as that's where gta-lc.exe is located, then that should be fine. That's to create the Show Config utility, which is useful for editing some aspects of your LC. smile.gif

I downloaded 2.6 plus the 2.7 updated and installed it but the mod didn't work for me. Doing a bit of debugging I learned that there seemed to be a problem with the models in landne and landsw. Crossreferencing the .ipl with the .ides seemed to indicate that there are some mismatches. First of all there are some models in both land*.ide and in generic.ide plus the ids do not match; check around the models around id 3107, I think, if you want to know what I mean. Game crashed upon starting new game with an exception because of it.

Well I installed it over a previous 2.7 update and it works.

 

But there's a very strange new bug concerning streetlights and traffic lights. One of these things happens randomly:

 

1/ They are completely invisible

2/ They are all-black, with no texture, and not modeled properly so you can also see the lights on the other side.

3/ When hit, they disappear instantly instead of breaking and falling off.

Or none of this happens and they display correctly.

 

WTF is going on???

I think i have the euro version 1.0, I got it in ireland.

 

could be england though.

 

Where can you check the version number?

If you don't wish to fugde with the SCM stuff, Delfi (JernejL) made a super-neato VC Console that not only displays the GPS in game, but does a bunch of other nifty stuff as well. The only thing you'd have to do is uncheck "Change Taskbar Text and Icon" in the Advanced section of the GTA:LC loader.

Hmmmmm, this is a strange problem indeed. You're definitely using the original EXE and not a warezed one?

 

As for determining the version - that's what the vcversion.dll does. Your EXE should be referenced with it.

I have a problem. I remember playing LC awhile back, and wanted to experience again. I redownloaded it and followed all of the steps, even the pain-in-the-ass SFX update. However, when I try to load my old save files or start a new game, the game crashes. No error messages or anything. It just closes. What is wrong?

All my GTA disks are original, and the vcversion.dll is in the same folder inthe vc directory.

Rightio - just thought I'd check. There's been people before who've only revealed at the last minute that they aren't using the original EXE - use it and the problem is normally solved. But your's puzzles me - I really don't get it confused.gif.

 

Also, you mentioned it is in the same folder in your VC directory - it should be in your LC directory (vcversion.dll, I mean). Not sure if this is just a typo, or actually a mistake on your part wink.gif.

Yes, I deleted that file. I suppose it's because I lost my original Vice City discs so I had to... use other means to play.

Most likely wink.gif.

 

The majority of the time, most gameplay problems are caused by faulty mods (which can include warezed files). Using the original files generally fixes the problem.

 

In your case, I'd suggest just repurchasing VC - it's very cheap nowadays smile.gif.

This file should restore most textures that looked out-of-place in Liberty City, especially the airport. I went from A to C, then got bored and did other random textures. All that took ten hours to do! D to Z is left to go! This should also save you some MB of space.

 

Liberty City Weapon Icons Update

This file converts six of Vice City's weapons icons to Liberty City. This took me half an hour EACH to finish.

 

Whoever touched the IDE file messed it up. It's not GTA3 and it is really glitchy.

Yeah, dex909 tried to apply the wet roads flag so that the roads would become wet after rain as per GTA3. But something else was messed up along the way - he's going to send me the updates as soon as he does them (he's working on it). So I'll update the package then.

 

In the meantime, you can grab the original IDEs (from the 2.7test package) here.

About the lamp posts bug, they're not black, they're just with no lightning. It random happens like he said, and it's not about the lamps. It happens to the ground of the final building on "Escort Service" mission and to some garages around Wichita Gardens.

It's because other flags had been changed in the IDEs instead of only having the wet roads one applied. You can grab the IDEs in their original form (before the flags were tampered with) here. We will get it sorted out properly though at some stage smile.gif.

We did a special short over the past few days called "Seasons Beatings'. I've got some goodies for those of you involved in developing the launcher, courtesy of AK-73.  I asked him over email about implementing these into the LC launcher, but he's a bit busy with his own mod, so these will have to be done by someone else.  But at least he has a lot of specific info for you icon14.gif.

They all address a range of EXE-related issues in the checklist, so another BIG thank-you to Alex smile.gif.

 

It'd also be great (and a HUGE favour to Alex) if anyone who knows how to alter the world lighting could post some info - that's something he's keen to learn how to mod (and it's also applicable to LC), and I think it's the least we can do to re-pay him for all of the wonderful work he's done for us.

 

And if any of you come across my post about the SFX whilst looking over Alex's, don't worry - that info is included in the SFX download for the test7 package, courtesy of Modeling Man smile.gif.

 

EDIT - It might also be a good idea to check the mem hacking topic regularly for any more updates from AK icon14.gif.

 

Here's something for our resident EXE hackers to look into (another of AK's findings).  A bit of research will be required to make it work "perfectly", but it's a big start.  Thanks again Alex smile.gif.

 

EDIT - As for the world lighting - after talking to ModelingMan about it yesterday, we know where to look, but I'm not sure when we'll get around to fixing it.  We'll see what happens wink.gif.

Here's some stuff that still has to be organised - the links all address a range of EXE-related fixes we still have to implement.

 

But I found a nice (late) Christmas present in my email inbox this morning, courtesy of AK - a world lighting fix! biggrin.gif

 

Originally, he'd simply increased the blue values in timecyc.dat, which worked, but also affected all the whites in-game - they were no longer a "true" white. However, he has presented an alternative solution - since red and green mixed makes yellow, by reducing those values, the yellowish lighting in LC can be reduced. You can grab the fix here, and check out these comparison pics:

I'm not sure on the exact functions of the ASI or the CFG - AK could tell you more if you're interested Seems AK has already posted a brief description here wink.gif. To install it, simply extract it over your LC folder.

It's nice to see some old faces back around here. For those that weren't around in the beginning or don't remember that far back, space and knux were two of the most important members of the mod. Both of them did much more work than what I've done in the last year or so. I wish I still had the drive and desire to keep this thing rolling. Hopefully though, things are far enough along that with Ben organizing everything that the mod can finish one day. I think I've taken it about as far as I can get it. The scm problems that are left I can't seem to fix, and I was never good at the other stuff either.

I don't know if this has been posted before but I found a way to prevent the train from disappearing if you tried to demolish it.

 

Replace the lines in the object.dat with these:
