That's a bug that's common to all of the GTA3 games. It just happened to me in San Andreas a few days ago. It's just something that happens every now and then.

The 1st post table could use a column with the new LC slot numbers. smile.gif Then the second table would become obsolete. :-)

The second post differs from the first - it shows only the LC weapons, but in the order they appear in terms of the GTA3 slot numbers. This is important/useful because we haven't been able to recreate this thus far, and will come in handy later.

And besides, the first table does include all the relevant details in terms of slot numbers, VC replacements, etc. wink.gif

Thanks to Craig for making those 2 (that's all I saw tounge.gif!) minor fixes icon14.gif.

And to address your second point - we held a poll of sorts to decide which VC features people wanted to have in LC prior to the release of the first v6test package. You can view the results here smile.gif.

@[4D]Outback - That's true, unless someone figures an EXE hack. And LC uses more vehicles than I thought it did (see the first post of the Vehicles topic), so there's not that many left over either.

EDIT - Actually, on re-reading your post Alex, I think I know what you mean now. Although I won't be changing the tables - if you knew how sh*tty BB code table source was, you wouldn't go there either tounge2.gif!

I think that LC should be compatible with the 1.1 EXE, but it is definitely compatible with the 1.0 EXE, so don't patch it.

Interesting - I'm curious then as to how you took that screenshot for your suggestions about the construction site and the elevator (now in the Download topic) sly.gif? The coordinates in the top left of the screen show that LC is in debug mode.

If you used the DBUG.SCM file and renamed it to MAIN.SCM, you don't need to check the enable debug script in the launcher. Assuming that's what you did.

Also, your post makes no sense - first up, you say that the enable debug option isn't in the launcher config, and then in the edit you say you patched your VC EXE and ticked enable debug confused.gif.

I think you might be able to solve your problems by not playing around with the configuration of your LC - you obviously don't understand what you're doing, as proven by you having a mixture of v5b and v6test files in your LC directory. The point of getting you to start again with the installation from scratch was to overcome this problem.

So, you can either go back and try to restore all your LC settings to however you had them when it worked (as in, when you took that screenshot), or you can reinstall again, which will fix your problem.

And in future, if you don't understand how something works and want to play around with it, that's fine - just back-up the original first wink.gif. And then if you have any problems, you've still got the original, and you can then ask here why what you did didn't work, etc.

All the information/answers/solutions are here for you - how bout you start using them, eh? smile.gif

I accually know that it never worked because i never played as long as it should have taken to crash smile.gif . plus i took the screenshot by pressing the "print screen" key on the keyboard and then quiting and opening paint and pressing Ctrl+v on the keyboard and the screenshot would then popup. when you press "print screen" it copys the screen. try it and see. just make sure it doesn't print out of your printer. wink.gif

I sware it didn't work now that i think of it.

i really dont think you have ever heard of this befor. i love this game and i wouldlove to play it. i hope you can find a way to fix it. i really want to play it. i have not been playing around with the main scm and stuff like that. im just following you'r instructions.

Yeah, I know how to take screenshots. I was alluding to the fact that your LC worked enough before to take a screenshot, yet now crashes on start-up:

...when I tried to start it up this came up...

You still seem somewhat unsure though of whether or not it worked - you've also been "sure" in the past about certain things, only to be shown to be clearly wrong.

Forgive me if I seem rude, but I find it hard to believe you completely - I posted those instructions some time ago, yet you only followed them about a week ago. Prior to that however, you assured us you had.

Not to mention the fact that several things slipped your mind - the SentXS issue, for example.

Also, you claim not to be playing around with LC's settings:

i have not been playing around with the main scm and stuff like that. im just following you'r instructions.

and yet you say you're in the launcher config here:

I did exactly what you told me to and i cant get the debug working because what i said erlyer and in the launcher config, there is no enable debug check.

confused.gif

I'm just giving you an insight into how difficult it has been trying to help you. For the sake of my sanity, you're just going to have to wait until we get v7 released, unless someone else has any idea on what to do, but I doubt that.

I have a question or two....

I cannot seem to put in any Vice City car mods... I used the VCMM and the ol' fashion GTAIII IMG.... nothing worked. So in other words you guyz made this one tough cookie to crack.

I noticed on the first page you said only one Vice City Cheat works... I got a few....

Spawning a Sabre Turbo will drop a Gang Stallion

The flying car cheat works too... So in other words most of the cheats do work. so unless I missed a post that pointed that out I thought I'd drop a line.

I found a few bugs too I'm sure has already been posted but here goes....

Maverick does not fly right, lifts right up and smacks the ground upside down.

The Clipped Dodo has a top speed of 13mph LMFAO I cannot even get it off the ground.

Other than that I only played it for 30 mins and found that much, it's f*cking awesome although I mislead myself thinkin that the two game maps (LC & VC) were connected and able to explore both games in one. still IT'S THE sh*t!!

The same here! Maybe that will be fixed after reaching the 3rd island...

About the cars, try to add them manually...and btw is there a limited number of cars i can add? I can only add about 10-12 cars and then spawning every car i add next makes the game crash...why is it so?

There's probably too much customized in VCMM for it to work with our altered files. I'd have to look into to see if it's possible to use that program. Adding cars manually is done the exact same way you'd do it in Vice though.

As far as I was aware, VCMM was no longer supported. And using it with LC v6 wouldn't work either I'd imagine as the IMG names have all changed. Installing mods generally isn't too difficult anyway - good ones normally have a readme, and if someone from here makes it, you can contact them via PM icon14.gif. And if that isn't the case, someone else will be able to help you smile.gif.

Read the first post again - it says "Currently only Vice City cheats will work with GTA:LC" confused.gif. It falls under the section of what still needs to be done, and is alluding to the fact that GTA3 cheats won't work (but out goal is to have working GTA3 cheats in LC).

Actually, I've never seen reports of either of those bugs, and have never experienced them myself. You're going to have to be more descriptive about the Maverick one - how can it lift up and hit the ground? dontgetit.gif

The only two bugs related to the Dodo are that it's SFX is incorrect (this looks like being a toughie to fix), and that it's handling doesn't match the GTA3 Dodo (it handles like the RC Baron planes because that's the VC vehicle it replaced - check out the first post of the Vehicles topic for a full list of replacements). In fact, it's easier to fly than the GTA3 one - I've never had any problems with it, and no-one else has reported any either confused.gif.

It's just that I find it strange that you seem to be getting these bugs whilst no-one else does - are you using the v5b or v6test, or an older version?

Okay, now I see your problem. When we switched back to the GTA3 names, we also had to hack the exe so the handling info matches the new names. Your setup does not have the proper handling for the Belly Up van. To fix it, go into the launcher (click the Show Config icon) and then click advanced. Once there go to the Car handling tab. Scroll down until you see the Boxville's handling data (ID #75), then change the name to BELLYUP.

Now, if that one is screwed up, it's possible more are screwed up as well. To reset them all to the way they're supposed to be, open the gta-lc.ini file (don't click the Show Config shortcut). And scroll down to the bottom of the file. This is what it should look like:

[CarHandling]BOXVILLE=BELLYUPBLISTAC=BLISTABENSON=MRWONGSZEBRA=BORGNINESABRE1=DIABLOSGANGBUR=HOODSPHEONIX=YAKUZASANDKING=COLUMBVOODOO=YARDIECOMET=PANLANTRCBARON=DODODODO=RCBARON

I did encounter the 'freezing installer'-problem. In my case it could be solved by deactivating my antivirus software temporarily (it most probably scanned the partially-extracted archive over and over, causing the installer to stop extracting). I can't verify that (since I don't have another problematic PC nearby). Could be worth a try however.

You could also update the first post to reflect that ALL versions of gta-vc.exe, even the German one, are finally supported. I verified this 4 minutes ago with my German executable. tounge.gif

Try to deactivate your antivirus software.

Try to install manually as described in the first post of the FAQ topic.

Craig, can you grab those files to save me the hassle of adding them to the checklist please smile.gif? (Got it - Craig)

My game claims there is no CD even though Vice City is already in the drive, how do I fix this? First click on the "Show Config" shortcut. Then click on the Advanced button. This gets you into the launcher's interface. Once there, click on the Audio tab. In the Audio section you will find a button that says "Verify paths" Click that. If you have this problem, then you will most likely see this error message:

Error

.\Audio\Wild.ADF is not found!

Now what you have to do is go into your Audio folder and look for the WILD.ADF file. It's probably not there. Open up your Vice City play disc and copy that file over to your audio folder. The radio stations must be on your hard drive for this mod to work. Once that's done, click on the Verify paths button again. Now it will probably say:

Error

.\Audio\FLASH.ADF is not found!

Repeat the previous step but make sure you copy the FLASH.adf file over. Keep repeating this process until the Verify paths buttons says:

All files valid.

If the Verify paths button says all files are valid and you're still getting that error message, let me know and we'll try to find out what's wrong.

It says there's no CD in my drive even though there is, yet I cannot use this method to fix it, as the method mentioned earlier to create a shortcut for "Show Config" wouldn't work..

sad.gif

Please tell me how I get this "Show Config" shortcut!

My LC directory is located in "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Liberty City", so this should help you tell me where to make the shortcut for.

Oops, slight error on my part blush.gif. If you followed the method outlined in the first post exactly (as I just did), it won't work - it's because the "s were in the wrong place. It originally said:

Make the directory "C:\<your LC directory>\gta-lc.exe -showconfig"

I've fixed it, so it now says:

Make the directory "C:\<your LC directory>\gta-lc.exe" -showconfig

If you follow the instructions again as they appear now, it should work - right click and select New -> Shortcut. Click Browse in the window that appears, and find your LC directory. Click on gta-lc.exe and select OK. In the path, it will now say (in your case) "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Liberty City\gta-lc.exe". Now, after that, simply type -showconfig and it will look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Liberty City\gta-lc.exe" -showconfig and it should work icon14.gif.

Any more problems, just let me know - I've tried that though, and it worked for me smile.gif.

I was bored, so I decided to take the final american.gxt and finish the German translation.

I corrected some mistakes which had been in every German translation since GTA3 PS2 release and made 2 versions (one with GTA3 radio stations and one with VC ones + proper credits) as well.

Both can be downloaded here (right-click, save as...) colgate.gif

Right click and select New -> Shortcut.

Nope, even with the -showconfig after the quotation marks, it now just makes a shortut to the GTA LC Game..

Right click and select New -> Shortcut. Copy this line and paste it there:

"C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Liberty City\gta-lc.exe" -showconfig

This link HAS to work because there should be NO versions of gta-lc.exe without that configuration dialog besides Beta1 maybe. If that doesn't work either, double-check the path you installed LC to OR right-click on gta-lc.exe, hold the button, drag the symbol wherever you want it to be, release the RMB and choose 'Shortcut' (of course). You should now see a shortcut to gta-lc.exe. You right-click on this newly-created shortcut and add -showconfig after the quotation marks. You have to add this to the 'Target' field (the topmost one), not to any field below! Good luck!

Alternately, you can also get into the config by altering your gta-lc.ini file. Open that up in Notepad and look at the first few lines. It should look like this:

[Exe]Path=.\gta-vc.exeVersion=10ChangeTaskBar=1LangRus=0

If you add this line after the LangRus (or ChangeTaskBar depending on what's last in that section) you will go into the config the next time you load up the gta-lc.exe file.

[Exe]Path=.\gta-vc.exeVersion=10ChangeTaskBar=1LangRus=0showconfig=1

The installer won't work for me - can I mod VC manually?

-Run the installer until it freezes

-Click "Start", "Run" and type %temp% - then press Enter

-In a folder beginning with pdk-, there should be a file named "gtalc_setup.7z". Copy this file to some other place on your hard drive

-Close the installer using Ctrl+Alt+Del -> "End Task". The original gtalc_setup.7z will be deleted

-Open gtalc_setup.7z in the new location using WinRAR or similar decompression software, or use 7-Zip

-The files that you will see are essentially the files that are copied across in the installation process.***

Note that by installing in this manner, you will not have the Show Config utility added to your LC directory.  To get it, right click in your LC directory and select New -> Shortcut.  Make the target location "C:\<your LC directory>\gta-lc.exe" -showconfig.

*** The manual installation guide came to an adrupt end here, so I used my common sense and copy & pasted the extracted files into my Liberty City folder (I copy & pasted the Vice City directory into the Rockstar games folder and renamed it).

Is this what I'm supposed to do..?

If so, you should really make this part of the FAQ clearer..

Help & Questions Topic

Ok, so here it is, your one-stop reference point for everything to do with GTA:LC! Please read each of the following questions and answers carefully before posting - this post is updated regularly so you don't have to search through pages and pages of posts to find an answer. This topic is intended for everyone from people new to GTA:LC to those who've been here since the beginning, so some of the questions may seem a bit basic or advanced depending on your level of knowledge about the mod. Also, below there is a guideline for installation, as well as a list of common problems. So if you have any questions about LC, or need help, then this is the place to post. Here we go...

Frequently Asked Questions

Question Answer
What is GTA:LC?
GTA:LC (Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City) is a total conversion modification for GTA: Vice City which aims to bring the GTA3 game to the improved Vice City engine, giving you many added features (eg - motorbikes, helicopters, interiors for buildings, etc.)

The current version of the mod can always be found in the first post of the Beta 3.1 Download topic.

How can I unlock the 3 islands to explore GTA:LC without completing the missions?
This is actually quite simple, thanks to the fact that GTA:LC has an in-built debug feature for testing - it unlocks all of the islands and all of the missions, and gives you 250 Health and Armor, as well as $1 000 000. It also shows your location in red text in the top left corner of the screen.

To turn the debug feature on (which gives you these extras), open up the Show Config utility, click on Advanced and go to the Debug tab. Ensure that the Use Debug Script box is ticked, and then select Apply and Exit the Show Config utility.

Where can I find a 100% game save for GTA:LC?
There currently is no 100% save game for GTA:LC because the main.scm is constantly changing, meaning that any save games are no longer compatible. However, you can turn the debug feature on - it will give you similar features to a 100% game save for the time being.
Why isn't GTA:LC being made in a manner that utilises all of the features from the VC game engine, instead of only some?
The main aim of GTA:LC is to recreate GTA3 on the new and improved VC engine - we are trying to make the sort of game that Rockstar would have had they had the technology of VC when they made GTA3. Prior to the release of Beta2v6, we conducted a poll to give an indication of what sort of features people were looking for, but we could not overlook the aims of the project, so many suggestions were rejected from the official version.

However, if you wish to add extra VC features to your game, feel free to make your own mods, and release them in the Unofficial Mods topic.

Where are all of the motorbikes and helicopters?
In Portland there are no motorbikes driving around, but only Faggios. However, there are several bikes parked all around Portland (eg - there's a Freeway parked at the building where you go to complete the Fuzz Ball mission for Luigi).

In Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale, you will see motorbikes driving around quite regularly, as well as other sportscars.

Helicopters can be found in various locations around the city - there is a Maverick at Francis International Airport (on the helipad near one of the Dodos), as well as on the roof of the Love Media building (walk through the doors of the building to be spawned onto the roof); a Sea Sparrow on the roof of Kenji's Casino; a HEAD Radio chopper on the roof of the HEAD Radio building in Portland (jump off the railway tracks to get there); and an LCPD Maverick on the roof of the LCPD building on Staunton Island, as well as at the back of the police station in Shoreside Vale.

Regarding the Hunter - it spawns at Phil's Army Barracks on Staunton Island after 100 hidden packages have been collected, and another spawns at Atlantic Quays (near the Triad Fish Factory) in Portland after you have completed the game 100%.

The Dodo can be found at the airport (as per GTA3), and the Skimmer is at Asuka's jetty.

NOTE - These helicopters and the Skimmer will not appear until after Shoreside Vale has been unlocked. If you can't wait that long to fly around in one, see above for how to turn the debug feature on to unlock extra features.

Where can I find a trainer/car spawner that will work with GTA:LC?
You should be able to use any VC trainer as long as the option "Change taskbar text and icon" on the 'Game Parameters' -> 'System' tab of the 'Show Config utility' is unchecked. You can find the utility inside the GTA:LC directory (or via the start menu link of the same name).
Will RealGTA3 work with GTA:LC?
Unfortunately, no. RealGTA3 is a collection of mods for GTA3, not Vice City. A lot of work would have to be done, and even then, there's no guarantee that it would work. Perhaps someone may start work on a RealLC after GTA:LC has been finalised, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.
Will any GTA3 or Vice City mods work with GTA:LC?
GTA3 mods will most likely not work - well, they could, but you'd have to change them so they could run on the Vice City game engine. That's a lot of very complicated work.

Vice City mods should work, however, they may have to be tweaked slightly. The simplest way of putting it is, try it. If it works, then have fun. If it doesn't, just forget about it or - if you’re ambitious - take a look at the conversions part of Ben’s modding guide.

Can I play GTA:LC with the Vice City radio stations instead of with the GTA3 ones?
Yes - just open the Show Config utility in your LC folder, and click Advanced. Go to the Audio tab, and select a radio station (they're the top 9 entries) and click on Restore. Do this for all of your radio stations, and then click Apply.
Why does Asuka's mission "Under Surveillance" have perfect cutscene audio by default?
The audio in 'Under Surveillance' was changed between the PS2 version and the PC version. For some reason, Rockstar changed what Asuka said (in the original PC version, she says the police are watching you, but in the PS2 it's the Mafia). And since it's the Mafia guys that you have to take care of during the mission, Craig made the decision to restore the PS2 audio for that. So whether you have the GTA3 audio or not, you will have the audio for at least that mission.
What still needs to be fixed before GTA:LC is complete?
There's still several things that need to be fixed, some major, a lot minor. For a full list of all bugs and glitches, check out the CHECKLIST FOR GTA: LIBERTY CITY FINAL.
Can you list all of the buildings that have interiors?
Marco's Bistro Interior (converted by silver007) has been added in v7test4 - a visit might get more interesting in the future. Additionally, Joey's Garage could be said to have an interior (although it's inaccessible).

If you go to Donald Love's building and enter the doors (not while missions are active) you will be spawned to the roof, with access to a Maverick. Similarly, if you walk into the doors of the LCPD Headquarters, you will be spawned onto the roof, with access to a LCPD Maverick.

If you would like to request an interior, go to the Unofficial Mods topic and post a request there.

Can someone make a mod that puts Liberty City in the San Andreas game engine?
It's already started - go and check out this topic.

NOTE - This is the updated list of questions for Beta2 v7test and later. If you have any questions relating to Beta2 v5b, check out the old FAQ topic which can be found here.
