LC is (IMHO) just as hard to make as Rockstar making a game from scratch - whilst they are creating a new engine, we had to learn how to mod the VC one. Also, LC is probably harder to make the way we are doing it - we're doing the best we can with what tools we've got - but if we had some of Rockstar's tools I'm sure we could do it a lot easier.

Only a complete Freak-Of-Nature would be able to have all those skills, or at least somebody with WAY too much time and has absolutly no friends. Boredom? Tell me about it! I get bored just playing LC sometimes. If I had all those skills I would go right up to Rockstar and demand a job, there is no way they could say no. biggrin.gif

All the people on this team have substantial skills, whether its modeling or just knowing alot about something. Everybody here has contributed their free time to create such a amazing total conversion for Vice City. Rockstar on the other hand does what they do because they get paid and its not on their own time. IMO I think you are all crazy for what you do for this mod, I don't have the time or the paitence to sit down and work on something for hours unless I get something out of it, besides a really cool mod. biggrin.gif

I see. Once again I've proven to be a complete n00b when it comes to mission coding blush.gif At least now I know how to turn off the coordinates display in debug that's been bugging me for a long time. Thanks a lot Craig.

EDIT: Found a strange visual glitch:

It looks like the Dodo got stuck into one of those non-solid, just-for-the-show patroling copters. But why doesn't it just go through? This copter-plane hybrid flies as if it were one craft. I've seen it on more than one occasion.

He (AFAIK) hasn't done that island yet so the 2dfixes are gone bit the new ones aren't in yet.

So, does that mean that we shouldn't report such things in Portland because he already knows? I'm not quite clear about that point. There's a dozen more examples, like the I/E garage's front wall from inside and the whole Easy credit autos building also from inside.

Hey, I just wanted to say how cool the last update is, especially all those new converted actors! So far I've seen 8-Ball in prison suit, Toni Cipriani, Mick (from Sex club7), Chunky Lee Chong, Joey in suit and Lips Forelli. (Luigi still has his bad leg, though.) Great work guys! And don't bother with the moving mouths thing.

Yes at this moment it means no need to post for anything on the 1st, and a bit of the 2nd island. The 3rd island is the one to test, as other than the few ive found, listed in my posts, the rest would be new. Thankyou all once again. I wont post for a few days, im working on a gtalc forums xmas present, and needless to say its taking up my time, but dont think I have dissapeared, or stopped work on LC catloaf_by_anuj.gif

P.s Gta_Thomas, its ok, we dont all get the time, still it would have been good for you to be the 1st to test out the subway biggrin.gif

Quick question for everybody. I was looking at a post in the GTA3 section asking if the minigun was in that game. Someone replied saying it's probably in Liberty City. But unless you cheat, there's no way you can get the minigun. But I also don't want to interrupt the normal GTA3 gameplay flow. Hammer and I have already talked about putting the VC weapons in the game somewhere. But no final decisions have been made yet.

 

Here's what I'm thinking right now. We can either have the VC weapons available right away but only have them accessible with the new LC helicopters. This would basically mean that you can use those weapons for some missions if you cheat (or are clever enough to get a chopper early).

 

Or what we could do is finally give GTA3 a 100% reward. Thanks to the hard coding of VC, we will automatically reward infinite ammo and double car damage. But we can also add a few other features to the 100% reward. Those would include double health and armor as well as unlocking the new VC weapons. These may be in easily accessible places as well.

 

Right now, I'm leaning towards the second option. But I would like some input from some other people on the forums here. So what do you guys think?

Ah, the eternal question - GTA3 fidelity vs new features.

I think the 100% variant is better. People who want the weapons earlier can still get some of them by cheating (although I do miss the screwdriver lol.gif )

In addition, you could make them all spawn in one place (the stadium comes to my mind) in debug mode. Or maybe add a new variable for unlocking that feature, something like $MASTERLCVCWEAPONS = 1

I also agree with the second option. The original goal of this project was to port GTA3 to the VC engine - by adding too many features along the way, it kinda detracts from this. There are some things that can't be helped anyway - eg - smarter cops, windscreens/tyres blown out, motorbikes/helicoptors along the way, etc.

 

Having the weapons (and maybe some other stuff that can be decided later) as a 100% reward would be for the best. I'm thinking that you can get access to all of the bonus VC weapons at your hideout after 100% - you get all the GTA3 weapons after 100 packages (perhaps a Hunter somewhere as well - that was discussed in FAQ a while back). We can decide on which particular VC features to include later - but I think that whichever are chosen to be included shouldn't be available until after a 100% finish.

The number of bugs I'm getting on the second island with the current V6 update is nothing short of ridiculous sad.gif

 

-Killing Salvatore: I got a few minutes with V5, but now I'm getting 1.5 mins top to get over to Portland..

-All of the missions from the 2 ladies on Staunton Island are buggy for me. I'm getting the wrong name displayed for a mission in the cutscenes (and it varies). I'm also having duplicate (Sayornara Salvatore anyways) missions from them.

-Their second mission (Mafia watchers) is doable, but several of the Mafia, when you kill them, the blue arrow above them doesn't go away. It also seems you don't need to kill every one of them either... (still one left when I completed mission...)

-I have to watch the entire cutscene to their third mission or else GTA crashes.

-Kenji's first mission is impossible for me now. Get police car, get bomb, blow police car... and then There are two guys following me (and if I leave them behind I get a warning) But there's still an objective on the map on the coordinates of the prison cell, but below it. I tried going to the proper dropoff point, but nothing happened...

 

And there are a lot of missing textures, but I think that's already a stated problem...

 

I guess I'll try my backup file from before Sayonara.

Heres my problem in a list.

 

First: start up game and runs fine at the main menu

 

Second: I go "start new game" and hit it, The loading bar goes to 100% precent.

 

Third: The game goes to a black screen like It is about to start and then crashes and shuts down with out a error message.

Anyhow, to expand on what I was saying before - giving you the VC features as a reward for completing LC 100% is going to be more incentive to keep playing. I've never completed GTA3 100% (the patriot and landstalker missions are too hard tounge2.gif) but I downloaded a 100% save for it, and it's kinda boring. I've finished VC 100%, and there's some more stuff to do - another Hunter spawns so you don't have to go to the army base, you have bodyguards (but they're pretty cr*p!), etc. - there's a bit more incentive to play on. I think that something like this would really benefit LC wink.gif.

@Gertlex - I'm not really sure about most of your problems, but I know there's still some issues with Sayonara Salvatore. I thought that the only problem now was getting the guys to walk in the right places, but perhaps I'm wrong.

 

@muffins - This is a common problem unfortunately, and the team is unsure of how to fix it because they're unsure of why it works on most PC's and not on others. You can either just wait for v6, or just assume that LC isn't going to work for you. Sorry, I don't know what else to suggest.

And the new time limit for Sayonara Salvatore was an intentional thing to speed up the testing process. But I forgot to change it back. Oops. And that mission still isn't done properly.

 

I'll make sure to play through all of the Asuka and Kenji missions before the next release though.

Paparazzi Purge is the one giving me the cutscene crashes... (I also suck at it, so I got bored trying to pass it again). The one time I did get past it, I immeadiately went on to their next mission, clicked through the cutscene, and crash... dozingoff.gif

 

I do have the main body of the error text saved to my computer... I don't have a good method of uploading .txt files though, and I'm reluctant to post the whole thing due to length.

What do you guys think about the new variable idea? Seems a bit more elegant than stuffing it all into $MASTERLCDEBUG. I don't mean this to replace the 100% reward, just a little extra for those impatient.

Usually only the beginning part is important really (and the last couple of lines of the scm trace).

 

EDIT: And I got the bug of Sayonara Salvatore repeating under control now. I had a variable that I forgot to rename.

Quick update on my status. I've almost got Sayonara Salvatore working correctly now. All but one of the guys now walk out properly. I may have even found the old flicker issue that some people were complaining about long ago. I'm not sure about that last part though. But I do now know where to look in that mission for that issue.

Correction to my last post. The first Kenji Mission (Kanbu Bust Out) is beatable, after all. But still buggy. What I forgot was that I had to shake the police (leavemealone FTW). Still, two guys were in the car, while a marker was still on the map. After shaking the police, I got the message to go to the Dojo, and did so. Arriving in the correct spot, one guy (the guy in back of the car in the screenie linked below) got out, while the other stayed in. I then got a big MISSION FAILED message, and below that I was told that I had let the Kanbu die. Upon returning to Kenji, however, I was assigned the next mission (Grand Theft Auto).

 

For the Under Surveillance (I think) mission the problem seems to be that 2 guys, for every one are being generated, and only one of each counts...

 

The above tries were done with an older save, but I still had problems with the cutscenes to Paparazzi. (also had Sayonara reassigned to me, but I reloaded game)

Edit: I keep forgetting to mention a bug with the phones on the first two islands (still haven't gotten to the third, of course). For both of the ones that have map icons, after I complete all their missions, I can go by them again and hear the phone ringing. Not only that, but I can do missions again (haven't bothered to complete any though, so I don't know if it loops all, or just the first).

 

Perhaps that was a feature in GTAIII *shrug*. I'd certainly never realized that the rampages switched between two locations.

Yes it was. The phones ring so that you can replay the missions (Turismo, Bling bling scramble and Rigged to blow on the 3rd island). They are the only kind of races (well at least the first two) in the game, and you can beat your old record. Look into Stats.

Stop spamming everywhere up with this. We don't know when it will be out, there is no set date. There is a test version in one of the topics but it is a test version so don't complain if it doesn't work.

Not at this stage. Be patient - the team is working as fast as they can. They're currently working on a lot of fixes for this version - the gta3.img was entirely rebuilt and all the models now have their gta3 names (instead of VC ones), and all of the peds are being converted. Choofy is also working on fixing some 2d issues with the models, as well as going through and fixing some buggy cutscenes (I think), but this doesn't involve getting the characters' mouths moving. At this stage, my guess (unofficially) for a release date would be in two to three months - everything mentioned above, as well as some other things, needs to be done, and then a new installer (which will be better than the v5 one) scripted.

Gerlex: Under Surveillance looks good for me. I haven't been able to cause any issues in that mission. I'll try killing the mob guys in a different order next time. And I'll look into Kanbu Bust Out next chance I get.

 

And Sayonara Salvatore is almost done! rah.gif
