Also the homepage listed is Demarest's page (not here as it should have been) and it's very much out of date as far as this mod's concerned. Other than those two things, that's a nice thing to see in a major publication. If I can find one that prints my name in it, I'll buy it and bring it to my next job interview.

To get audio, you kind of need both games. I don't think we're going to be supplying mp3 files for the missions much longer. And if only one files is missing, then you get no audio at all.

Due to my last backup being corrupted with bad sectors i have lost all my work on the other three elburro missions i am starting over with "i scream you scream"

 

i am also working on an official installer for an updated release and i have a question

 

1. will we or will we not be including the audiolc folder or any files that have to go there?

 

anyways i have built a test installer script for beta 1 that compresses all the files needed into one .exe thats about 82.9 MB after the updates i will make another install.

This has been discussed many of times in several threads, what updates did you just install?

If you installed the laucher make sure you put the folder named AudioLC where the rest of the folders are eg. data, models, TEXT etc. Also you must replace the other 2 files, the launcher and another file that comes with it.

 

If you just downloaded the code update all the audio fles that come in the zip should be placed in the file named AudioLC also.

And earlier I was a being teased for questioning it at all mad.gif THIS is exactly why procuring our permission should be exercised. Proper credit is important and I don't WANT credit for something I didn't do. Anybody know their website info? I feel like yelling at them.

For now, I say leave it out of the main download, but we should provide them in a seperate download (maybe even all 56.6 MB of the files). This is a somewhat touchy subject so I'd like to get other people's input for this as well.

 

I don't know if you're talking about beta2 yet, but that's what it sounds like. In my opinion, we're not quite ready for a second beta. There needs to be a more drastic change in the files for a beta release.

 

There's several mapping issues that have been pointed out over the last few weeks, and with killer.ip's absence, we've really had no one to fix them. I'd also like to see some kind of sea board before we go delta (just so we can't see the subway and Porter Tunnel).

 

And as far as coding goes, we should at least finish all of the non-storyline missions (meaning finish the paramedic, rampages, change the unique jumps (so they don't activate when you fly over), and the Diablos, Hoods, and Yardie missions.

 

I'd also like to have all of the gang peds converted before the next beta.

 

So until all of that is done, then I think we should wait on an official release. Remember how long we waited for the first beta? And remember how impressed everybody was with it? Most people who play this, only download the major releases, so let's try to give the people who will not get the extra help needed to fix bugs, the least amount of bugs possible.

 

There's probably more that should be done, but that's just off the top of my head right now. The point is, I think we have a long way to go before we start compiling files for a 2nd beta release.

i hope Process Explorer helped samus11 figure out what was going on.. i would recommend that everyone have it around because it does come in handy sometimes, as do filemon and regmon (they note which files and keys a program has accessed, not just the current ones), both on the same web page.

Sorry for the double post, but I just finished another mission and I thought I'd share it with everybody. Rigged to Blow (Hoods #3) is now done and I believe it's bug free.

 

I've also changed a couple of minor things since the last release. Some missions were still giving out the GTA3 money values, so I fixed those. Also the Mafia now have shotguns as their second weapons (so beware driving in Saint Marks after they hate you). I also changed the order of the Hoods missions temporarily. Now it starts with Toyminator and goes to Rigged to Blow (since you can currently pass those) and then it goes back to Uzi Money.

 

Let me know if there are problems.

So you're actually pissed that you got free advertsising?

 

They are media, this is news, they report. I don't see the hundreds of website that link to this mod asking permission. When I see this posted on another forum (how I found this, actually) I don't see the poster asking permission to refer to it.

 

They got the URL wrong, then email them or something. They're not that hard to find.

 

But getting pissed off at them for looking at your mod: if that is truly your opinion then get off your high horse.

The team are more than a little unhappy about the lack of permission asking and such about our mod. While we do appreciate the coverage, asking permission would have cleared up issues like the wrong website being included with the article.

 

 

Ah, yeah, whatever. 'Get over it' seems to suit this situation best. You got free advertising for your mod, and I don't think there's any rule that says you need to be contacted after you've made it publicly available.

 

 

Good point Random. "more than a little unhappy" about having your mod published in Australia's premier gaming magazine? I'd be over the moon if that happened. Why don't you link the page to the mod? Is it some completely wrong page? (I haven't read it yet, PCPP)

This is counterproductive. And since there's another topic about this same thing. I'm going to lock this up. I don't want to see posts like that. If you would have read my first post (and Demarest's follow up) you'd see that the reason he was upset is they used a link to his personal website and not the projects official site (here). Had they contacted us, we would have been able to tell them the correct URL. That's the reason he's upset. Not because we got free advertising.

 

Anyways, this forum is for the mod's development, and this post isn't helping us any. So unless Demarest wants to unlock it to add his two cents, this thread is now closed.

I was going to test the mission but I cannot complete the first Hoodz mission, erm I think its the Hoodz one cant remember playing GTA3. The Uzi Driveby has a problem with it, I got in the car killed a few people let go of the button to face left/right so I was driving normally and then my gun would not shoot again.

After I pressed the key to look right/left and try and shoot, the player models hands would move or vibrate like he was shooting the gun but the gun was not there even though it was enabled and nothing was firing.

 

Once again I reported this here because its not an official release as of yet or it has not been released on the list. An its specific to this topic.

It's a known problem, the uzi only gets normal ammo (like if you find this weapon somewhere) where it should have infinite (because the weapon has no ammo-numbers showing)...

 

I will look into this later, I used the same opcode as in VC to start this rampage, so I will possibly have to give you ammo with some "dirty hack" instead of getting this done by the engine... We will see...

But of course. And by opening it back up, I'm not at all suggesting that Craig was wrong for locking it, because he wasn't.

 

I'm not pissed at free advertising. I said earlier that it is an indication of a publication's level of professionalism. If any company could claim to be the premiere anything, they would handle their business in a more respectful manner than they clearly are.

 

They said that the mod's website was my GTA3 code release section notify.gif By doing that, you're damaging GTAForums as well as every member besides myself that contributed to this mod. These guys put hard time into making this mod what it is and we told GTAF that we'd keep this as our home. You're also punishing anybody whose only exposure to this mod is that publication as they'd have a hard time finding their way to HERE where we support and release updates for it. Yes, I think that's a big deal.

 

Oh, and while I did not comb through ALL of those links, those that I did properly credited this forum and the team. So it really does nothing for your counterargument at all. You clearly missed the point. I think I'll leave this open. While Craig is right that this forum is for the development and support of the mod, I think these types of discussions are useful, if only for my own entertainment tounge.gif

You're correct that this is the right place to post on coding bugs. And you can test the new Hoods missions as I've temporarily changed the order you play them in. You start of with Toyminator, then go to Rigged to Blow (the new one) and since you couldn't pass Uzi Money, I put that as the last mission for now.

Everytime I finish "Rigged to Blow" the game crashes. So right when it should be saying Mission Passed my computer crashes.

Ok, I get what you're saying now.

 

I suspect that a fan may have nominated your mod for the "Mod Life" (or is the "The Hub" now) section of the magazine a while back, hence the old link.

 

Oh well, not to worry. The installer is unmodified and still contains the readme linking to here..... (on an offtopic this seems to be the only board that I've ever been to that does not have a thumbs-up emoticon)

 

Sorry if I seem overly defensive of PC Powerplay...it's just that it's really the best pc gaming magazine over here (and the only one that did not get bogged down with console games like all the others confused.gif ).

 

I also get extra defensive when the pcpp forums are invaded, too devil.gif
