sorry to appear to be butting in here guy's, firstly i'm a regular visitor here at gta forums but i don't post much, secondly thanks to Pinecreek-skids and the original team for finally releasing Liberty City....it really rocks , thirdly thanks to demarest and the rest of you who have made this TC finally come to life with all the fixes and .scm files, lastly this mod definitely needs it's own thread......somewhere, oh btw thank you all in advance for the future fixes e.t.c. that will inevitably arrive sooner or later...... and a Merry Christmas to you all xmas.gif

Hey guys, Im currently working on getting the dodo ingame in place of the skimmer. I still have to give it reflections and model some wheels. I will release a beta of it hopefully with a little addon to the nomad scm if demarest doesnt mind, or he could do it himself. Im still working on the handling, I could make it have no limit on height, but it gets a little woobly while going up really high. What do you guys think?

@crazydude: I haven't installed this yet, but I have some questions. First of all, I'd like to keep the skimmer just because it's one of the "advantages" to having LC in VC. That aside, I thought that the skimmer was classified as a boat and therefore could not have wheels/function on roads? I thought the research in this area stated that the RC Baron was the only car ID that could fly AND have wheels. Is this not true? If we have our choice, can we just use it as an RC Baron instead? I would just make the changes myself, but wouldn't be comfortable in the COL. Is this something you can update?

Make sure the cull I put up is in the data/gta3maps folder and you replace the cull line in the gta_vc.dat to

IPL DATA\gta3maps\cull.ipl

The wheels are there, its just that they dont spin, basically after I finished up the dodo, i replaced the skimmer col with the dodo col, moved the model up a bit on the Y axis, put wheels on and got it ingame to look realistic. I also modified the col file a bit so when you are moving on land, there are no sparks underneath. I guess I could replace the rcbaron with the dodo. That was my mission earlier, but When I went into the nomad scm and tried to spawn the rcbaron instead of the seasparrow it wouldnt appear ingame. suicidal.gif

As much as I loathe to admit it, teehee, Dem's right. smile.gif We can't move this topic out of GTAForums. It being the crossroads that it is, it wouldn't necessarily be suicide, but there would be no point. THIS is what the community is all about, and I can't see the reason in moving it from under that community. It's not that it needs to grow, but this is pretty much the only vessel that can hold it.

As for a central hub, I think Knux's page will be just fine for a while, simply as storage for the vast number of updates. However, somewhere down the line we are going to need a page to pimp the project... I think so anyways. smile.gif

I thought things were looking a little anaemic as I was cruising round. The other references you found are those used in the credits, for the folk who worked on putting the stations together. They're so long for this very reason, every man, woman and child involved in any way is listed there.

@Pine-Creek Skidz: I apologize if I came off as if I was upset. I was upset, but not at you. I was upset at the mounting irritation from Smithers2 behind the scenes and that was making me take something that should've been just an inconvenience and turning it into something that I portrayed as upsetting. I never meant anything personal by it. The only reason I mentioned you specifically is because of your history in these files and all the help you've provided. You've been an invaluable player since well before any of us were putting in on it and therefore anything you release is going to be assumed by the public to be official. That's all. I know it's hard to fight the temptation to make LC "better". I know that the major issue of discussion ATM is the confusion in this thread and releases with additional things like that will only add to the confusion. Thank you for understanding and please again accept my apology for allowing something else make me appear as if I was upset with you or your work.

 

@crazydude: That's amazing. I'm going to PM Delfi about this because he wasn't able to do that no matter how hard he tried. If there is a way to do that for the RCBaron INSTEAD of the Skimmer, that would be cool. Or if everybody thinks that keeping the Skimmer out just because it wasn't actually in GTA3, then we can keep it as it is. My vote is to have a Dodo AND a Skimmer, but I already recognize the contradiction in posting so vehemently for authenticity, yet making provisions for a sea plane, helis, and bikes. Hopefully you and others can see the difference--I'm sure you can. As for the SCM, when I had used the Dodo DFF and TXD to replace the RC Baron, I had no issues parking RC Baron's (Dodo's) at all. It was weird because it still sounded like an RC and its COL file/model relationship made it handle impossibly. At any rate, see what you can do and if you'd rather just keep it as is, it's your decision to make. Of course thank you for all your support and effort thus far smile.gif

 

@killer.ip: Mary Christmas to you too colgate.gif Thank you for your support. It is very important to me to keep things at gtaforums for several reasons. Most importantly, this project would appear dead if I was the only one working on it. The community is the true fuel here (contributions by members such as yourself) and keeping it forum based right where it was born is the easiest way to keep the community's voice and ability to contribute alive. As for what comes later, we'll cross that bridge then. I've given my word to illspirit and staff that we would be located here except for downloads and my word is very important to me. BTW, I'm enjoying your passion as well. You, Skidz, and Knux have been the largest, most consistent contributors and have in turn kept the passion in me--as well as others I'm sure--alive. It's those who are actively contributing that are keeping the passion going smile.gif

Demarest: You are right tho, this is suppose to be a conversion of gta3 and should look the same as the origanal game. I think I changed the files with my own intensions in mind and didnt think about what you guys thought of the idea.

Tho, there is one thing I want to talk to you guys about.

 

There isnt enough streetlights in Portland, maybe the city is out of money or something.. When everything is done I think more should be added, maybe in the area around marcos bistro.

The cull just tells the game which areas shouldnt have rain, and which areas shouldnt have garbage. Its not all that important for actually gameplay unless you really want to walk under rainshelters and not get rained on.

 

If anyone else has a problem with the CULL then im going to have to work on it some more.

@Skidz: I did what you said about putting the updated cull into gta3maps and making sure that gta_vc.dat also says gta3maps in its path. I have no issues. I was at one point before though, so I know this does in fact solve it.

the skimmer will never have rotating wheels - tested

but the rcbaron has them rotateable, and my new rcbaron based plane mod utilizes the rcbaron slot,

it also uses wheelmod, but if the back wheel isn't at same level as the front ones, it "bends"

to side, i think i can get around this by rotating the whole plane..

the wheels don't rotate, but the plane virtualy steers on ground..

I got the rcbaron replaced with the dodo, but I got some unpleasent results. It was in the ground, and I couldnt get inside. I guess this is the result of simply moving the model up a bit on the Y axis and fixing up the col file. But I hate making col files since I always mess up on them. I still couldnt get it to spawn so I had to use VC and spawn it through the garage. I guess Its possible to fix this up some more. Isnt it possible to have the dodo in place of the skimmer, and port the skimmer through a different id? Isnt there 4 available ids, 3 with Dmagics wheel mod installed?

I got it ingame, I can also get in, but thats all, there are no engine sounds, nothing, basically all i can do is sit in it.

Anybody who installed killer.ip's "gta3lc_2d_fix_compilation.zip" is going to get all kinds of crashes that don't exist without it. The one I kept getting is right after the winding road between the airport and the "industrial area" of SSV. As soon as I could visualize the straightaway, it would crash. Krutchkov was telling me of some he encountered too. And since I didn't make a backup with the autoinstaller, I had to start again from scratch. I learned my lesson. I don't remember for sure, but I think killer.ip warned us it was untested. So that's the problem. If you start over without it, you should do fine.

 

@crazydude: May I assume you're using Steve's CollEditor? If so, can't you just export the COL for the Dodo from GTA3 and import it into VC and name it whatever the RC Baron uses? Even when I was trying to get it in, I did everything except for the COL and had better luck than it sound like you're having.

 

UPDATE: I have made a couple small updates. One can be found here. It basically updates some menus and such. It supercedes the previous menu release made as well as my previous release of the pause map as it contains both. The menu has been updated though to be more GTA3 authentic. I've also taken the liberty to combine Knux's most recent paths release (1.6) and kipo's SSV paths release and combine them here.

Thanks for your effort, but it seems that my problem is totally different

Killer.ip's 2d fixes have been working without problem

i have all his 2d fixes and no problem at all, i have every thing updated including your main, and there is no problem

the crashes happen after i install skidz update

even without any updates from the other team that update crashes for the reasons i said above

so i (and probably you) i am totaly stumped

have no idea what is the problems, oh well

it is handling.cfg problem - i had same thing with my plane,

just replace the handling.cfg lines to:
