The best idea is to use an .asi (dll) file, it just has to be put in the main directory and gets loaded everytime the game starts. This way the user doesn't has to start an external exe, just the game file as usual. The .asi could be copied to the directory by the installer, so it wouldn't even be noticed. And you can do great memory patching from it, you also can overwrite function calls with pointers to your own functions (in the dll), see vcdbg for an example.

You won't have to hardcode either ver 1.0 or 1.1, there must be a way to get that info from the exe data.

 

I've translated Idle's vcdbg to Delphi, if that is more useful to you than the original source. See here.

OK Back on Topic

 

I have a problem with the install, I've installed a fresh copy of the game, I've installed the VB6 runtimes, I've installed the MOD I've clicked on the desktop shortcut icon and then when I do I get the friendly "This program has crashed do you wish to send a report" box, so I click "Don't Send" then a we box pops up saying

 

Error

 

Runtime error 216 at 0040373E

 

OK

 

I've tried copying the files over manually but to no avail

 

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi your my only hope

Did you you delete the folders than copy them over? That might have something to do with it, you might have to wait till Demarest or killer.ip comes.

I agree, you (we? tounge.gif) should accept, , most of the team wants that, it's sure it a beta, but like every beta ,there is bugs. As someone (too lazy to look back tounge.gif) said, for 56k'ers who contributed but can't get the beta would be able to get it.

 

It would also raise the attention to the mod, getting more and more people here, even to those that doesn't have the net! It's also a big publicity tounge.gif getting in a magazine is great.

And why would anyone need to do that? The installer and everything was made under XP.

my desktop resolution is set to 1024x768x16

 

I have made it so that all of anti-aliasing is turned off. No programs can control it.

 

I have also set my pc to be performing at the best performance. You can do this by right-clicking on my computer/properties/advanced/performance settings/"adjust for best performance"

 

Once you do that try going into gta. Once I did this I can run LC 1024x768x16 max or 800x600x32 max.

I did that and seems to be working fine now, but I still can't get past the 720 resolution in GTA, my current resolution for my desktop is 1024x768x32

 

 

I can´t download the Official Audio update because the link is not working! 

 

right click and hit save target as, thats how I had to do it in order to download! colgate.gif

Place desktop at 1024x768x16 and you should be able to get higher resolution in the game.

It would be awesome to do... but I would wait until R* responds before I gave an answer. Think about it, you're giving away the city in GTA3 for free... if you could make it so that you must have gta3 installed before you can install GTALC it might be best to avoid a lawsuit... perhaps you could even get R* to release it... maybe as a freebie for buying GTASA for PC when it comes out or something (that would give you plenty of time to finish the missions)

..this d/l package cannot be d/l with a download manager, since I am on 56k and my connection cuts off after 2hrs I am no longer well atm able to help out with the mod, any any small way. Im trying to get something sorted for the monet. But it is something to do with the download that a d/l manager cannot be used not my connection..

 

Have you tried other mirrors?

Most of them should work with download managers.

The one I provided definitely does.

So far I have d/l the file 3 times, the file can be stopped and restarted if the server can be reconected which most of them can, but the file can come down perfectly enough but the file always says no files in the archive.

If I could d/l the file in one go this works fine I have been told, this is what another 56k user did as he had the same problem. I cannot do this my connection cuts after 2hrs. confused.gif

It must be something to do with the file, as all other d/l have worked fine.

 

Its good to hear that its all working fine though when you get it. wink.gif

Seeing another Back to the Future picture made me realize that some other people may want this code. This code mod will instantly switch between a driving and a flying De Lorean with the push of one button. (For this code you must replace the deluxo with your driving De Lorean, and the seaspar with a flying De Lorean) All you have to do is push the sub mission button (R3 on the PS2 controller) when you're driving or flying in one of the De Loreans. You will instantly switch from one to the other. The De Lorean models I have are from Phil's files. So, here is the code (written by me with help from Demarest) This code is for Barton's Builder 0.22.

If you've replaced your flying De Lorean with a different helicopter, just change every instance of #SEASPAR to whatever chopper you've replaced it with.

Or if you aren't comfortable with modding you're main file, here is my main.scm. Just copy the files to your data folder (backup your old one first) and start a new game. This main also includes a speedometer and damage meter. And it changes the spawn buttons to crouch and sprint.

I dunno if anyone else has noticed this, but that FW Dodo with the banner fly's around and it goes through half of the buildings in Staunton island. Can you guys just make it fly around the whole city itself....maybe when your not in a helicopter?

~tibs~ try going into the installer directory, and copy/paste all the files that are in there (ex. data, models etc) and paste them to the vice city directory.

 

What Smithers2 means is to manually take the files from the installer and paste them into the vc folder, since it seems as if the installer is having problems doing that for you automatically.

I could make a spanned RAR file, i.e. one that's made up of say, 4 x 15 mb files, which containted the Installer, so that it'd make each part easily possible to download within 2 hours, and upload it to my webspace if you want?

I know how annoying the 2 hour cutoff is.

ok i got lc installed now but i go to start a new game and it locks up and freezes when tha lil bar is a lil over half way, any help here

I think it's still using the VC paths. But I've noticed it too. I like to go chase it in the Hunter and shoot it down. It also passes through some of the terrain around the dam.

 

@Whoever's handling collisions:

The hud and radar wouldn't show up for some reason (had them on in the options). This is on top of the line of buildings near the cliff that faces the lighthouse.

I keep finding several of these. I don't know if it's just me tho, cuz there was one (but only one) small group of rocks in the original VC that did the same thing. The larger groups of rocks look fine tho.

And finally, while I was messing around in the skimmer, I tried to land in the water and instead, fell through the water and landed on top of the tunnel, then slid off into blue (purple now?) hell. The game respawned me right at the tunnel entrance and when I looked up I saw the water level. If I go above the water level (either by walking or driving), it disappears. If I walk back down, it doesn't appear. But if I get in a car (or the plane) and go back down, it shows up again.

i've installed the mod, but when i launch the gta-lc.exe, nothing happens (the gta-lc.ini is not missing), what can I do?

If this happens, we'd probably want to write a good FAQ and stick it on the top. Also, a couple more moderators might be necessary.

 

Another thing, this kind of exposure might overload the message boards. You may want to see if Tank's okay with this.

The tempo of the board's definitely picked up in the last day or two, I'd say another moderator would be a good idea. Considering how much exposure this mod's likely to get further on the down the line, it can only get busier. It's really up to Dem, but considering that both of us can't be around all of the time, if only to keep an eye out, I reckon it makes sense.

 

You know, I've been getting lag on the board all day today... I wonder if we're already feeling shock waves...?
