Brown Thunder

Recommended Posts

I've been really busy lately and haven't had so much time to play/mod GTA at all. So i loaded up VC, started Brown Thunder and played. When I was done, I let the game stay paused in the background. This occured over several days. It would've continued on, but there were way too many threads I wanted to take screens for. So I quit. Here's where I was. See if you can beat that. BTW, I've always said Brown Thunder was a good way to increase your criminal rating. The savegame I used to get here started off at 13,344. So there's the proof.

Advice? Use the machine gun. I used to use rockets all the time. If you use the machine gun and don't kill any innocents, you'll never get a wanted rating and when you do, it will go away very quickly.

Cartoon Corpse

wow. my criminal rating (associate) is around 8000. my bank is around 2 million. level 5 max brown thunder so far (2 or 3 attempts)...were you ever at that level? or were you already an uber pilot?

so do you get down low to go after the 'perps' or shoot them from above the bldgs? which camera do you use?

i'll probably just go to whatever level gives me a perk. till i finish game. like you, i've got alot on my plate. even 1/2 my free time on game (not likely) it's not alot of time. maybe a few sessions a week.

@Cartoon Corpse: I'm not a very goal-oriented person. In fact, my only goal in life is to learn to fly a heli and actually fly one. I'm obssessed with the manueverability of helis. So when I found out VC had them, I went straight for them. So it didn't take me long to learn. Even still, you learn new moves as time goes on (I did). I just use strictly keyboard and standard camera. Can sometime be frustrating. I've found using look left and right simul (look back) will actually look forward sometimes when the camera's misbehaving. That helps. That and the fact that the machine gun is auto-aim, you eventually get a feel for flying past your target, spinning around and shooting without being able to see what's going on. The biggest trick is in where you can get the people to spawn after level 12 since the game isn't creative enough to deviate from that. It will always spawn 2 cars in that exact same place and a 3rd wherever. The 3rd is often someplace where they die instantly. My run to 345 was faster because of where they spawned. Sometimes I would gun them down, they'd reappear there, gun them down while 3rd died, next batch, gun them, repeata. Usually good for 2-3 levels. Once I had like 7 in a row that way. Very helpful.

@Opius: Are you serious?! Brown Thunder is the ONLY thing that gives VC replayability IMO.

I've gotten the Apache but it is much bigger and moves faster then the others, a bit tricky for me to get around in it but I was thinking there was only 12 levels for all these side missions; firefighter, vigilante, and ambulance.

Is that only officially? [brady guide the source I use]

Level 2,363 is my best cool.gif

It took me about 8 or 9 hours total (I paused it overnight after about 600 levels and then did 1700 more the next day).

Also, if you max out your money (after about 370 consecutive levels) your Criminal rating will have gone up by 200,000 (1 pt per $5,000) if you started off without much money.

At about the level I stopped I was making $250,000,000 per level but of course I had maxed out my money long before this.

Maybe I got missed, but I checked my Brady guide again and it only mentions doing up to level 12 in each of these type missions and gaining the health, fire proof ability, etc., etc. What am I missing...the fact they don't stop at 12?

I've basically skipped doing these missions. (thus far in my playing, but a few attempts)

You only need to pass level 12 for the benefit you can gain from it. Since Vigilante/Brown Thunder is fun, it's worth playing for as long as you can survive.

@Spuds725: You pic link is asking me to log in. But I can't wait to see it because I REALLY don't believe how far you said you went, especially when you conisder that the pic I posted took easily 6-7 hours of gameplay to attain.

Whether you believe or not, I did it last august-- I had a real good spawning point at the airport--out in the runway near the radar tower near where the runways intersect and about 95% of the time the third car died on its own (spawned in the water or someplace else where it would destroy itself)--most of the time I hovered and blew up the cars as they spawned. Doing it this way it is easy to get 100 levels every 20 minutes which works out to 300 per hour and 2400 over 8 hours.

I thought you could view it via my link to GTPlanet.net --lemme try and upload it here or somewhere else.

Here is my latest kills screenshot-- I'm actually up to 323,000 kills and 808,000 on my CR now but this pic was taken a few weeks ago.

1. I'm a serious VC gamer.

2. I don't lie about what I've done in VC-- just ask and I will post a pic for anything I claim to have done.

I maintain a vice city recordbook on another forum and actually I have the 2nd best record for this category:

I list the top 5 and here they are:

Highest Vigilante Mission Level

1. Level 2525 - T. Vercetti

2. Level 2363 - Spuds725

3. Level 1685 - KieranMurphy

4. Level 1658 - IntegraGS-R

5. Level 1494 - space

I'm sure I can beat the current record but I'm afraid of my game locking up (it has in the past) and I am trying to boost my kills and CR records up too. Since you can't save while on vigilante it becomes risky (as far as losing your progress) by not stopping and saving every so often.

Spuds.
