Hey all, I am getting a new computer for my dad's house this holiday and I need to know something. This computer will not be setup to go on the net at all. So, I have a question, is it possible for me to burn SP1 to a cd so that I can put it on the new one or by means of USB Memory Key Drive. Or, will switching compatibility modes work? Please give an answer, thanks! biggrin.gifcool.gif

This should be in the PC Chat if a mod wants to move it there *hint hint*

To answer your question, if the system isn't going to be online at all, then I wouldn't worry too much about installing SP1. And if you wait a bit I hear M$ will be releasing a SP2, and you can buy it from them on a CD and just install that. SP2 will have all the patches to date (I'm guess that will be the "to date" will included the date they release SP2 also on the CD). The problem comes in that dad won't be able to get new updates from M$, but can for him.

You can set up windows update to give you links to the updates to be downloaded and you can get them dad some out and install them then.

Go to WindowsUpdate as usual, after the scan look on the left for "Other Options" below that look for and look for "Personalize Windows Update" on the right click the box for "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog un See Also" now click Save Settings, then look for "See Also" below that click on "Windows Update Catalog" then "Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating system" and select whatever version of windows you're using and click Search. This will show you all the different updates in different catagories, select the one(s) you need to worry about and you follow it from there, just as if your IQ was normal, and download the updates and save them to your harddrive
