Where do you guys buy your albums at? Since I moved to a new town, I want my f*cking heavy metal but all the stores have all the pop sh*t and maybe like one album that I actually would want, but I already have. bored.gif Do you just go to Best Buy or what?

I am upset.

I buy my sh*t at this place called Exclusive Company. It's a pretty small store, but f*ck....they have some of the rarest metal albums and the largest collection of metal I have ever f*cking seen.

I love that place. And to boot, all their sh*t is no more than $13.

God Hate Us All? The best Slayer album? You deserve a swift kick to the scrotum. That has to be the worst. If you were any Slayer fan, you would know Reign In Blood was their most legendary album. And yes, they're getting old, but just because they are one year older than they were last year when I saw them is no excuse for a terrible set list and short performance.

The two best Arch Enemy albums are Stigmata and Burning Bridges.

I get all my stuff from a small store called Phil's. Seriously, they have everything you'd need for metal cds that aren't rediculously rare imports.

my 2 cents hehe...

ive seen slayer twice,

the first time 5 years ago at a metal fest here.

the kicked ass for almost 2 and a half hours,

it was one of the most intense shows ive seen.

then i seen the a couple years ago at ozzfest,

they werent nearly as animated, and they played like they were just bored.

i dont think it has anything to do with age.

and reign in blood was the shortest and most popular album but i personally think south of heaven was better.

and i seen megadeth in 89 with judas priest during their final painkiller tour.

megadeth were real tight live but the set was only a half hour long.

even after testament cancelled too...

@andy in england yeah canninbal corpse (with chris barnes) is good along with kreator (old school yeah) but i think haunted by six feet under was their only good album, the others were pretty straightforward and borring.

have you guys listened to those side projects that were around the same time, like meethook seed and nailbomb? those are classic crossovers. [/rant]

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but it must be said....Slayer sucked last night. Killswitch did an amazing set surprisingly, but Slayers set list just f*ckin sucked. The last time I saw Slayer it was f*ckin amazing, they played for nearly 3 hours the last time I saw them.

And tomorrow night I'm going to see Megadeth, it'll be my first time seeing them live, so I hope I'm in for a good one.

Megadeth is good, but since Cryptic Realms, they kinda went down hill. Slayers getting old, they don't do as much as they used to, or sound the same.

  Hi fellow metallers

I'm just starting to explore the realms of metal, and would like your input.

I love guitar solos, and the only people I used to listen to were Satriani, and Vai. Until one day my guitar teacher said "You should listen to Pantera, they're amazing." So I did, and so it started. I've recently started listening to Slayer, and I was wondering which would you recommend, who don't have that "I want to sound like the devil" style voice. Because he suggested Arch Enemy aswell as Pantera, and imo, that style of singing sounds really bad.

Slayer- God Hates Us All, is the best album IMO. Check it out.

Pantera- The only song I like is Walk, thats about all.

Arch Enemy- I don't know sh*t about 'em to say anything.

Check out In Flames, Soilwork, Kreator, Murderdolls, Six Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse, Cradle of Filth, Cryptopsy, and Mastodon. sigh.gif

That's Cryptic Writings, bro.

And stop listening to SFU this instant. Chris Barnes went downhill once he left CC.

Heh, Cryptic Writings. I forgetted.

Sfu is good, but I like Cannibal Corpse more.

GHUA ( Slayer)- Is the best album, for me that is.

My friend recently bought A Perfect Circles new album, Emmotive. Its mostly, if not all, about how the government is f*cked up. The music is really slowed paced though, so I don't recommend buying it unless your into slow... music.

I won't get it. A Perfect Circle butchered Imagine and they're a worthless band.

Did they just come out with a new album last year?

I've had The Outsider in my head the past few days, it makes me want to buy the CD, but then I realize that there's so much better sh*t out there to buy.

Besides, the rest of the CD could suck.

So am I right to assume that no one in here listens to any of these bands?

Spiral Architect

Bal-Sagoth

F*ck... I'm Dead

Witchery

Athiest

Mork Gryning

Anal Blast

Setherial

Funeris Nocturnum

Alchemist

Vital Remains

Cancer

Mayhem

Vile

That's just some of the bands that I've tried to start conersations about here and no one responded. I was mainly looking for some concensus, like is it that you guys don't like those bands or is it that you've never heard them before. I'm very curious.

I did, and they were f*ckin bad ass. One of the best shows I've been to.

Next week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I'll be going to three very kick ass shows. Kicking off on Tuesday will be Lamb of God. On Wednesday I will be headbanging to the tunes of Cannible Corpse and finally on Thursday is Gwar. I will be so sore for the next month, but that should hold me off for Cradle of Filth, who's coming here in December.

@Jcab,

Bal-Sagoth

F*ck... I'm Dead

Witchery

Athiest

Funeris Nocturnum

Alchemist

Mayhem

Vile

I've heard all of them. I don't like F*ck...I'm Dead, nor Wichery, all the others are great.

Spiral Architect is boss. I listen to them and Mayhem now and then, but I haven't really gotten into any of the others you've named (though I've heard of them).

My Rust fav's are "Hangar 18" "Holy Wars.. The Punishment Due" and "Tornado of Souls"

Tornado of Souls rocks my socks off. Then again the whole cd is rather classic.

I saw Megadeth on the Rust In Peace tour. Wonderful show. Perfect sound quality and performance. Haven't kept up with them so much lately.

@Digital Murders and @Moonshield, thanks for your frank answers. Nice cross-section to help satisfy my curiosity. Cheers smile.gif

I've actually been listening to a couple of albums that have been discussed many times in this topic: "Chainheart Machine" (Soilwork) and "Clayman" (In Flames). Fans or those albums should probably check out "Deathrace King" by The Crown. It's a bit heavier and more blackened, less melodic, but basically the texture seems very similar as the production values are high, the sound is bright, and the vocalist has that same hard to classify death scream. I highly recommend it. Actually, now that I think about it, Darkane is actually alot closer. Another great band.

SPEAKING OF The Crown, I recently purchased Possessed 13. It wasn't as good as I thought. I really wouldn't compare In Flames/Soilwork to The Crown AT ALL. 2 Different genres. confused.gif

*NEW CD*

Dungeon - A Rise To Power

Power Metal! I like this album. It's got pieces of thrash and speed mixed with dungeons and dragons. This is a really good Power Metal album. These guys are very popular in Australia and I can see why. Go get it if you don't have it.

I get to see 2004 "Megadeth"....still dunno if anyone besides Dave is considered original in the new lineup.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, the Grammy-nominated heavy rockers from North Carolina, will release an aggressive new studio album through Sanctuary Records in early 2005, to be followed by a worldwide tour.

Tentatively titled "En los Brazos del Dios" (In the Arms of God), the upcoming album is among the band's heaviest in years. "We all have a certain affinity for real music, including truly heavy stuff," says founding guitarist Woody Weatherman.

The band's current direction reflects their long tradition of evolution. "We started writing songs, and they somewhat had the vibe of 'Blind', 'Deliverance' and our earlier material," says vocalist/guitarist Pepper Keenan. "We started thinking from that perspective, and it evolved into a heavy, classic sound but with a modern wisdom to it. We really got back to our roots with this one, listening to old records that we all grew up on and headbanging at Woody's farmhouse. It was a good time putting it together."

The result, Keenan says, is a "bombastic, epic record, staying clear of the 3-minute formula. It's not a nostalgic record by any means; it's big and ugly and heavy. Thematically, there's a lot of disgust on the record, directed inwardly and towards society in general, reflecting these times we all live in. A lot of people will be able to relate."

Tentative songtitles include "En los Brazos del Dios", "Never Turns to More", "Stone Breaker" and "World on Fire". Producing the album is C.O.C.'s longtime collaborator and knob-twisting, speaker-blowing genius, John Custer. Besides working on four of the band's previous albums, Custer also produced C.O.C. bassist Mike Dean's track on Dave Grohl's PROBOT project and C.O.C.'s contribution to "Nativity In Black", the BLACK SABBATH tribute compilation.

Playing drums is New Orleans' Stanton Moore, skinsman for the renowned jazz-funk combo GALACTIC. Over the past year, C.O.C. found themselves writing intense material and needed a drummer who could not only handle it but take it to another level. Keenan, who had since moved back to his hometown of New Orleans, called his old friend Moore to ask him if he knew any drummers up for the task. Moore laughed. "Yeah, me," he said.

Within four days, C.O.C. was in New Orleans undertaking a musical adventure without a map. This is the type of creative situation in which the band thrives and distinguishes itself as an original force in heavy music. Though C.O.C.'s onslaught represented a departure for Stanton, he was more than up for the challenge. "His performance was totally original and category-crushing," Weatherman says. "He stepped right into it full-throttle."

"He's one of the most progressive drummers I know," Keenan says of Moore. "In the heavy metal world nobody really knows who he is, but after they hear this they will. He's an accomplished jazz drummer playing manic heavy music — I've never heard anything like it."

Oh Yeah. catloaf_by_anuj.gifbreadfish_by_Moto.gif

Oh yeah, that megadeth show. It was kind of a dangerous situations because it was at the Municiple Auditorium at Armstrong Park in New Orleans, not a very big place, and the audience was going ape sh*t and they had us packed in ther like sardines. When Megadeth came on the whole pit audience starding doing this wave sort of thing as the more hard core element were forming a mosh pit. Then I was knocked down so quick I didn't even know how it happened but my friend helped me up and I was ok, but I feel very lucky that I wasn't trampled kicked or something. Interesting experience to top an awesome show.

Then I was knocked down so quick I didn't even know how it happened but my friend helped me up and I was ok, but I feel very lucky that I wasn't trampled kicked or something. Interesting experience to top an awesome show.

Dude I'm jking im only 15 and yeah the pits can get pretty f*cking crazy sometimes. So no C.O.C. fans here?

menace, I suck, I didn't even ever see slayer. I was really into them at the time though. I've been meaning to tell you that your name is freakin cleaver, that movie Menace 2 Society f*cking rules. Don't be a Menace was great too.

I've been thinking alot about that comment, and the thing is that you gotta admit that at the very least they death metal, they have that in common. They are all Swedish and new and bright sounding. Sure, The Crown is heavier and less melodic like I said, but to me they seem to be alot more like Soilwork/Terror 2000/In Flames/At the Gates (the new stuff) as opposed to the less rock 'n roll, more sick montrous sounds you find from other parts of the world like America like Vile/Morbid Angel/Dying Fetus. Those swedish death metal bands kinda sound more like a cross between hard-core and black metal than american death metal to me, with the exception of certain elements like muted chords. I'm very interesed in how you guys hear it too. BTW, I've been listening to "Crowned in Terror" alot lately too. Not quite as good as "Deathrace King" but still great.
