Soulfly is on Roadrunner, a label terribly infected with NuMetal and sh*tty -core bands. I listened to some of their stuff before. Never again will I.

I've been listening to a lot of Dan Swano's project 'Edge of Sanity' lately. You guys need to get the album Crimson II, seriously. It's amazing.

Heh I used to listen to Chaos AD a lot myself. But pretty much after they got the new lead singer, the black guy I think - I stopped listening to 'em all together. Soulfly was pretty good but not nearly as good as Sep was.

I actually like Ill Nino. They have nice touches of Spanish music like using Rumba beats and strumming and stuff. Its pretty cool stuff. The song 'With You' starts out with soft rumba strumming...it's a good song. It's not really heavy metal though.

If you like the spanish-"touch", go for Sepultura, or Soulfly, if you like Nu-Metal.

Uno, i'm actually looking for a Testament album to start with, can your recommend anything?

And the "Sons of Northern Darkness" album by Immortal, is pretty much the only thing I've been listening to lately inlove.gif

Well, I suggest you go for The Legacy[1987] and Practice What You Preach[1988?]. I don't really like The New Order at all. But The Legacy kicks the sh*t out of The New Order in my opnion. smile.gif

I actually do see what you're saying about Soulfly. It's hard to imagine Max as a nu-metal guy, but yeah, there's some funky stuff going one there. If you want to know what I'm into then just check out my previous posts. Right now I've been listening to Kataklysm's Victims Of This Fallen World and Diabolical Masquerade's Nightwork.

New Lamb of God video can be watched here. The song is called Laid to Rest.

Speaking of Lamb of God....

Their new sh*t sounds absolutely amazing. I saw them Saturday at Ozzfest. Their new album "Ashes of The Wake" comes out on the 31st of this month.

From the songs I heard, I'd definately reccomend it.

New Album!: ChimairaImpossibility Of Reason

This album is just straight in-your-face ass-kicking heavy metal! You can totally tell the heaviness and forthbrought feel in this album over Pass Out Of Existence. This album is just awesome all around. Riffs sound f*cking awesome and the drum-work is sweet as well.

Rating: 9.0/10

Dude Diabolical Masquerade "Nightwork"

Is a Killer Album

Dan Swano did a great job Drumming on that record and the songs Are Just Killa

I highly recommend this record.

Have any of you metalheads heard Ribspreader's "Bolted to the Cross"? Really tough old school Swedish death metal, with Dan Swanö (naturally enough tounge.gif). If you’re into old school death metal with brutal vocals and intense groove you should check 'em out. A new album is also being recorded at the moment. I'm looking forward to it. user posted image

I coudn't agree more. I've been listening to this album since it came out, probably about 50 to 100 times and I still love it.

Moonshield, you should really get this album if you don't have it already. I garantee it's right up your ally. Alot like melodic black metal but with even more orchestration.

Dan Swano, lol, I didn't recognize the name but now I see it has popped of twice in a row here. Guess I need to learn that one. Edge of Sanity is a great band. I've also been listening to Bloodbath alot lately: Dan Swano, Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) on vocals, Blackheim (Katatonia and Diabolical Masquerade) on Guitars, and Jonas renkse (Katatonia, October Tide) on bass. Bloodbath is great, but much heavier than the others, accept for EOS.

Bolverk, do you have any other Diabolical Masquerade? I checked the samples from the other albums but I'm still not sure if they are as good as Nightwork. Just wondering how high on the priority list they should be.

I find Grave Digger quite boring, especially Excalibur. It's all just classical, hyper cliché, under-produced heavy/power metal hailing from Germany. An epic intro, naturally enough, starts the album, before Pendragon gives us the first taste of this rather kinky concept album. The vocals are awful, and the music itself isn't buch better - worn out and stupid. Look at the text(s) for example;

Together we stand

Steel in our hands

Fighting forever

Forever we stand

Forever we fight

Side by side

Forever we stand

Forever we fight

I can't sense any attempts on making serious and innovative music on this album.

Ah well, that's my opinion.

Bloodbath will by the way release a new album soon for those of you unaware of that, featuring Peter Tägtgren from Hypocrisy on vocals, and wih Martin Axenberg (Satanic Slaughter and Witchery) taking over the drumkit from the now-guitarist Dan Swanö. The album is called Nightmares Made Flesh, and will be released in September/October. user posted image

Alright, I'm pretty sure Suffocation either just released an album in 2003 or 2004 - is it any good for death metal?

Edit: Typos. I hate typos.

@HTX386: Dude, I heard A) The new Fear Factory sucks and B) They suck live.

What do you make of this outrage?

I got a coupla old Suffocations (Effigy of the Forgotten and Breeding the Spawn) and they are both very good, although I wouldn't recomment Breeding the Spawn. Very talented musicians who I'd expect to be on top of their game at this point. I just checked out their site; they still have their token black guy (how many death bands are less then 100% white bread?) and they just released their first album in six years: Souls To Deny. Unfortunatly no samples.

I love Suffocation, but I have feeling the new stuff isn't going to be very good. It's like, there's been an infection with metal music lately that when new stuff comes out, it sucks.

But I'm hoping it won't though. "Human Waste" and "Effigy Of The Forgotten" are probably their best work.

Well, somebody must have a very bad taste in music..and it's not me.. tounge.gif

And, you HEARD it from somone?! why don't you go out and give it a try.

Agreed, the New FF is not half as good as the "old"(Digimortal, Remanufacture), but it doesn't suck. I dunno if they do live, never seen 'em.

FF is f*ckin awsome live

the don't put on much of a show (which is fine by me)

they just stand on stage and play the hell out of their instuments.

but they sound damn good live.

thats all that counts.

Yes Jcab i have all of D.M. Records

I think Death Design is a good record cause he uses a real orchestra

His records befrore Nightwork are almost the same style as nightwork But are not as good. But they are still good to have.

Not always true. Check out Centinex; their latest 2004 release rocks ass. Then again, so do their older works.

Well tonight I'm off to see Chimaira. It shall be the best birthday ever.

Well I never said all bands, just within the "metal community" so to speak.

So has anybody heard of Necrophagist? They're a f*cking amazing technical death band. If you've never heard of them, I highly suggest checking them out.

Digital Murders

Road Rage Tour 2004

August 24th, Milwaukee WI.

Bands

Lifter

Trivium

Machine Head/Chimaira (Rotating closing each night)

Lifter

Holy sh*t. They kicked off the concert and what a sh*tty band to start off such a big bill. This band had like 8 members I believe. Two drummers, two guitarists, two singers, a bassist and a DJ. Even with all those musicians, they still managed to suck. They didn't try to make up for their sh*tty music with their performance. They just stood there, but with all that sh*t on stage and with a big fat black guy taking up most the room, I suppose you can't blame the Hot Topic advertising flamers.

Trivium

Never heard of these guys either. They definitely gave a good performance and the solos were pretty good. The songs themselves didn't sound too good though. They did do a cover of "The Burning Shadows Of Silence" by Emperor. It was pretty bad to say the least, but the fact that it was an Emperor cover sort of impressed me.

Machine Head

I was so f*ckin happy when Machine Head came out 3rd, because that meant Chimaira was closing off. But then that also meant I had to wait longer. mad.gif

So anyway, I heard a few Machine Head songs before. Nothing to be very impressed about. The music was great to mosh to. Rob Flynn isn't that bad of a guitar player either. I wasn't really paying attention to the performance that much, I pushed my way to the front for Chimaira, so I only heard the last two songs. Which one was acoustic and the other was just full of drums and a solo. They were mediocre I suppose, but nothing I'd spend cash on for a CD.

Chimaira

Oh sh*t. This sh*t was better than when I saw them in December and when I had to see them when they toured with...dare I say...Slipknot.

They started out differently than the other two times I saw them. Instead of starting off with "Implements of Destruction", they played "Cleansation". Surprisingly, they played a lot of the good songs off of "Pass Out Of Existence". Such as "Severed" (That made the f*ckin night) "Let Go", "Pass Out Of Existence", "Painting The White To Grey" and the ultimate to end all mutual relationship song "Split". They basically played everything off of "Impossibility of Reason" except for "Options" and "Implements of Destruction".

About 3/4 through the set, they stopped and brought out Rob Flynn of Machine Head. Then they pulled something out of left field that I never f*cking expected. They covered Slayers "Show No Mercy", then Sepultura's "War" and "Bestial Devastation" After the covers, Rob stayed in and they performed "Power Trip".

They ended the show with "Pure Hatred" and all was good. I caught one of Kevin Talley's drum sticks and got one of Rob Arnold's guitar pics.

Sadly, I couldn't meet the band after the show because there was a down pour outside, but I have a ticket from last time I met them and got it signed.

Overall, I give the Road Rage Tour a 7/10. This is all mainly due to Chimairas over the f*ckin top performance. If you like Chimaira, or just like to get f*cked up in a good pit, definitely go to this show if it stops by near you. And it’s only $15.
