Haha I just learned that on 6/6/06 some dumbasses in my city went around and spraypainted pentagrams and "Reign in Blood" on a church and a seminary.

Apparently http://www.nationaldayofslayer.org/ took responsibility for the incident.

article here

Best quote in the article.

The band Slayer, one of the most popular super-heavy metal bands of the past 20 years, planned to open its latest tour on the same day, but things were delayed because of a band member's illness.

Listen to Slayer, because they're not only heavy, they're super heavy.

I probably know the kids who did this sh*t too.

RAVEN Finish Tracking Four New Songs - June 13, 2006

Long-running British metallers RAVEN have just finished tracking four new songs at Assembly Line Studios in Vienna, Virginia. The project was self-produced, with Kevin 131 engineering and mixing. Kevin 131 (PROJECT: FAILING FLESH, DECEASED, DYSRYTHMIA, OVER IT, WHILE HEAVEN WEPT) has issued the following statement about the project.

"A few months ago John [Gallagher, RAVEN bassist/vocalist] and I came into contact with each other. I had not heard anything from them in years, so I was very glad to hear new material. We chatted a few times, then met up here at the studio. The vibe and energy was great, but I had no idea that it would translate as well as it did when we got into the studio. RAVEN came in to track a few tunes so they could have some ideas down before going to Germany before Bang Your Head!!! festival. The sessions sound great. It's back to old-school RAVEN… great energy, raw, energetic. These were quick sessions — set up and go. But something great happened — the energy and intensity is there, without being overthought and overproduced. It will be great to hear a whole record keeping this vibe when it rolls around!

"They have one song, 'Against The Grain', which, I may go out on a limb here, may be one of my favorite RAVEN songs in the last 10 years. Up there with 'All for One' material, in my opinion! 12-string bass, crazy guitars, trademark insane vocals. John, Mark [Gallagher, guitar] and Joe [Hasselvander, drums] are great guys — very pro, damn hilarious, and a pleasure to work with.

"I am off for the night, then I will do some mixes and they will have them in hand after a quick mastering job with the king Bill Wolf (PROJECT: FAILING FLESH, DYSRYTHMIA, EMMYLOU HARRIS, WILLIE NELSON). That guy can make anything sound good and has worked with the craziest people. RAVEN should fit right in. John said these songs were not for release, but I am sure that one day these versions will see the light of day. All RAVEN fans should look forward to the record, for sure."

TESTAMENT Guitarist: 'New Material Is Sounding Pretty Old-School' - June 13, 2006

Steve Saks of LivingForMetal.com recently conducted an interview with TESTAMENT/DRAGONLORD guitarist Eric Peterson. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

LivingForMetal.com: After the CD "Live At The Fillmore" you released "Demonic". How was that era for the band?

Eric: "We toured our asses off for 'Demonic' and built our names up again, stayed out there for five months straight then we came back and it was just me and Chuck [billy] standing looking behind us with everything on fire. I summoned up and ended getting Dave Lombardo [sLAYER] to work on the stuff with me then got Steve DiGiorgio [sADUS], wrote the record and invited James Murphy [DEATH, OBITUARY] back to play some leads on it...and there you have 'The Gathering'. And since then there has been a lot of internal things like Chuck's cancer and me breaking my leg touring, all kinds of sh*t. But it wasn't until the last year when we put the original line up back together...I mean I've always been writing ever since."

LivingForMetal.com: How many songs do you have hidden away? Like a billion? (laughs)

Eric: "I have so many, it's like..."

LivingForMetal.com: How do you write them anyway, and what do you keep them on?

Eric: "I have them on ProTools or four-track, boom boxes whatever I can record them on. The newer stuff is on ProTools. Now more than ever we are getting ready here. Hopefully we'll be recording in the fall, that's what I'm shooting for."

LivingForMetal.com: And that's for the new TESTAMENT album?

Eric: "Yeah, and it's gonna be with the original lineup."

LivingForMetal.com: Even with Louie [Clemente] on drums?

Eric: "Yeah, we're gonna get Louie to come back to do some songs. The drummer situation, we are probably gonna use a couple of drummers 'cause we've had people that are in our lives and a part of TESTAMENT so it wouldn't be fair to not have these people play on it. Probably Jon Allen from DRAGONLORD and SADUS will play on it, who's also been a part of TESTAMENT and toured with us. Just the way we do things now, we don't tour extensively so it's kind of hard to keep steady players. Like if something comes up and someone's not available we'll go, 'Let's see if this guy's available.' Yeah it's gonna be killer, the new material is sounding pretty old-school."

LivingForMetal.com: Has Alex [skolnick] written a lot of material for the new TESTAMENT album as well?

Eric: "Yeah, he's got some riffs that he's been sending me and they sound pretty TESTAMENT, just really cool stuff. Like that 'Apocalyptic City' kind of vibe. Good chord progressions with octaves over it."

LivingForMetal.com: You guys were great together. I'm glad everyone's back and doing well.

Eric: "Actually, I just recorded some stuff last night with Jon Allen, a few new songs and there's this one song...I don't know. Me and Jon couldn't get past the beginning we kept stopping it and playing the beginning. I mean we're seriously both going, 'This is what METALLICA should be writing.' (laughs). It sounds really good the song, I'm not just saying it cause we're doing it. I mean all of the songs that we got are killer, but this new one to me is like, 'If this one doesn't hit home then I don't know what will.' It's got the really good essence of TESTAMENT and mixed with the drumming with Jon Allen and a little bit of 'Lombardo' kind of busy in style."

LivingForMetal.com: How was it playing with Dave on "The Gathering"?

Eric: "That was a blast. He was going through a rough period in his life, it kinda brought him back into drumming. I had a lot of good riffs and it wasn't something that we were trying to do...I bombarded him with riffs and he was just like, 'Whoa,' so he was kinda forced to play. He'd be playing like standard metal beats and I'd go, 'Dude, just f*ckin solo through the whole song, go nuts!' So that's where a lot of the cool stuff came out, a lot of the rolls and all that stuff."

LivingForMetal.com: What kind of game plan are you looking at for the new TESTAMENT record, recording this fall?

Eric: "Recording in the fall would be nice, that's my wish list. There's a lot of stuff coming up, I have DRAGONLORD who are gonna tour the States and we're playing Japan in September and Alex has got stuff going on too."

LivingForMetal.com: Yeah everybody's got lives now.

Eric: "Yeah, everybody's got stuff they're doing. I think once we get together and we put this TESTAMENT record together and we're done with it we're all gonna be like, 'OK! We got something here.'"

LivingForMetal.com: Any idea how many songs you are planning to have on it?

Eric: "Probably 10, But we'll have some bonus tracks for Japan or something like that. I mean there's a lot of material being written so we're trying to get enough to write so we can at least get half or more for the next record after that...so we're not sitting around for another five years."

LivingForMetal.com: Oh, OK.

Eric: "So that's what we're kinda doing, we're trying to write more than we need so if things pick up we can turn around and go into the studio and get a head start."

Raven had a track, ironically named 'Seek And Destroy' - and it was f*cking bad ass.

PS. How is the new Venom? Is it worth it? I've heard mad mixed reviews.

Anybody who likes Dillinger Escape Plan should check out Deadguy. They basically started the whole noisey-sounding type of metallic hardcore. They have much better lyrics than DEP, and ironically are also from New Jersey. They are the sh*t.

Their cover of Horror Business is pretty badass also.

Great album. I see you're into Megadeth aswell. You into Kreator or Nevermore at all?

As for Slayer - They haven't put out much for awhile now.

Yeah, love Megadeth. Got everything by them except Cryptic Writings and The World Needs A Hero. I also love Kreator and Nevermore. I have Coma Of Souls, Extreme Aggression, and Enemy Of God by Kreator. I don't have any Nevermore albums, but I saw them with Megadeth on Gigantour last year. They put on a great show, though they only got a half hour set, which sucked.

The sad thing is that 'Enemy of God' was on MTV a couple months ago. confused.gif

Nevermore is an awesome band, and, Loomis is an awesome guitarist. I remember reading in an article once that he tried out as a Megadeth guitarist, but Mustaine said he was too young and inexperienced.

What's your favorite Megadeth song? I'm into Angry Again and She-Wolf. Skin O' My Teeth is good too, but I overplayed it so it's kind of boring now.

Funny you should mention that, I saw the Enemy of God vid last night on HBB.

Yeah, Nevermore rule, as did Sactuary. Mustaine produced there first album and did a solo on there cover of White Rabbit I believe.

Fav Megadeth song? Well, Holy Wars is one. It's the song that got me into Megadeth, but currently it's been their cover of No More Mr. Nice Guy and Good Mourning/Black friday.

Haven't heard any of Sanctuary's stuff, but it's cool that Mustaine produced their album.

Holy Wars is a good song, Skin O' My Teeth was what got me into Megadeth. Mechanix is a cool song too. Megadeth does it better than Metallica's Four Horseman, just sounds better.

The thing I really like about Megadeth is the soloing in the songs, it seems like every solo in each song is really catchy, and not just a solo. Like the Hangar 18 solo, or the Peace Sells solo.

Went to the mall today. Traded in my copy of Kill 'Em All. I just started to really not like that album anymore. So with the store credit I got from that, I picked up The Art of Dying by Death Angel. Quite an awesome album it is.

They might as all go, I don't listen to any of them anymore. It's just the black album and MoP are scratched to hell. Maybe a good clean job and I'l send them all out.

Need to pick up Demigod.

Yeah right. That is the best Metallica album right there. Kill 'Em All is good but its not as good as ...And Justice For All. Tracks like Blackened and To Live is to Die own Kill 'Em All. Plus I've found that all the songs on Kill 'Em All are way better live on the Live sh*t Mexico City discs and the DVD's from Seattle and San Diego. The bass solo is still very kick ass though.

Kill Em All is the only Metallica album that matters to me. I like the pure, raw sound of the music, simplicity is key on that album. The solos are shredding.

Don't get me wrong, Metallica has a couple other songs which are great as hell, but Kill Em All is the only Metallica album that I like every song on. It's also the only album to have all my favorite 'tallica songs.

I recently tried to listed to ...And Justice and ended up falling asleep by the time One started.

I'v relised I only like the last two and a half minutes of the song, and everything before it is real boring.

Hell, the whole album just is real drawn out and boring. Give me some Nuclear Assault, now that is a band that doesn't bore me. It might have something to do with the average Nuclear Assault album being about a half hour long, and the average Metallica album being about an hour long.

New info on the new Maiden album.

Iron Maiden have recently posted the new tracklist and title of their new album on their official page. The Album title is 'A Matter of Life and Death' and the tracklist is as follows:

1. Different Worlds (Smith/Harris) 4.17

2. These Colours Don't Run (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 6.52

3. Brighter Than a Thousand Suns (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 8.44

4. The Pilgrim (Gers/Harris) 5.07

5. The Longest Day (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 7.48

8. For The Greater Good of God (Harris) 9.24

9. Lord Of Light (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 7.23

10. The Legacy (Gers/Harris) 9.20

No release dates have been announced as of yet, but the album is expected to be released sometime around early Autumn.

Link.

Plus theres this.

Thrash Metallers Megadeth will be releasing their new untitled album on Halloween this year (October 31st). Frontman Dave Mustaine and co-producer Jeff Balding have recently returned to SARM Studios in London to work further on the album, and then guitarist Glen Drover will be to traveling to Los Angeles, USA to complete the recording and do the solos for the album.

Here is a comment by Glen from Megadeth's official website:

"As I write this, I am doing my last minute preparations for my trip to sunny California this afternoon to begin my guitar solos for the new Megadeth record. I have had the basic tracks for a week or two here at home, so I am well prepared to go on this. This is going to be fun stuff. I don't like to be overprepared though, as I like to let some of the solos be spontaneous; I think both ways work well with me. So much cool stuff coming up soon. It's going to be great!!"

So far no title or song names have been announced.

Here is a comment by Dave:

"...as for song titles or album, you know me, these song titles change everyday! And I won't know the record title until I've committed to the damn artwork."

Agreed.

I really don't see what the big deal about AJFA is, I really don't like it at all. The songs are too complex, too polished, too perfect. It doesn't sound like metal, it sounds like a classical piano score.

Was Iron Maiden's Dance of Death any good?

Against the grain, against the odds, against the world

Forever the underdogs

We are the bastard sons
We are the ones that refuse to grow cold
We are the thorn in your side
We are the thieves in the night
And we're coming to take what's ours

If AJFA was polished or perfect, I think there would have been some bass in it.

Sand saying it sounds like a classical piano score doesn't make any sense.

I don't agree on you thinking AJFA is boring but yeah I agree with you on that.

Come on man, too polished? You can hardly hear the f*cking bass. Plus there is nothing wrong with the songs being complexed, and yeah saying it does sound like metal and sounds like a classical piano score makes no sense.....at all.

New lamb Of God song

Now, I'm no fan of LoG, but I must admit that that song sounded pretty good. Like how Randy doesn't sound like a gat being skined with a cheese grater. Might give them another chance, along with Bodem, seeing as I'm gonna go see the Unholy Alliance tour when it gets to Washington.

Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force - Marching Out

Well upon purchasing the last album I need from Opeth, Morningrise I'm looking for another nice mellow sometimes but heavy sometimes band. Any suggestions? I'm also looking to get yet another live DVD. Any suggestions? Has anyone seen Emperor's "Live Imperialism"? I think that is what its called at least. Something along the lines of that.

Not really. Immortal own Yngwie any day. And I found the Blashyrkh video to be better than the Call of the Wintermoon video.

I've been listening to Angra a lot recently. These guys rock. My favourite songs are Never Understand, Carry On and Wings of Reality. But I only have the albums Angels Cry and Fireworks. Any other Angra fans here? If so, Are their other albums up to the same standard? What's their best?

If you heaven't heard of them they're a power metal band which also have progressive elements.
