I downloaded Parox's water.dat test suite but it contains no water.dat file. Does anyone have a good technique to finding the water.dat entry which creates water in a specific area?

I've contacted Mickarrow to see if he'd like to help out with this, as he seems to have a lot of experience making water for MISA.

The land on Necrosis and Port Orchid is fully planned by their respective authors, AFAIK.

Good point about the military base not being a civilian airstrip. Ideally we need more than one civilian airstrip and my idea wouldn't provide that. If you intend to have a civilian airstrip on there, maybe we could clarify it's design before you build anything else there? We should ensure that planes could land and take off from it before you built stuff nearby.

There's no official lot list for the Northern islands. As such, building on them is very risky and there's no guarantee of it being used. You should ask in the [Official] Lot Requests and Map Design topic for a map to be made and request that area. The way I see it, you have much more of a claim for that part than anyone else but this will make it official. smile.gif

He has marked that area in his sig for probably at least a month, so as far as I care, if people don't read signatures, their problem tounge.gif.

Discussing Lots and Lot Ownership

This topic is for:

  • questioning a decision made in Lot Requests;
  • asking about the maps;
  • discussing themes for districts;
  • proposing or opposing new islands;
  • and other discussions about lot ownership and management.
Pictures of lot progress should be posted in the Picture Post Topic. You can comment on progress there.

Good idea.

1. I can host the image on my ISP's FTP page, but I think it would probably make more sense to have it hosted on the myriadislands.com site, and I guess a FTP could be set up to update the map when need be.

2. I think it should, since it's much easier than having to go through the topic.

3. Snow racer might as well keep that up to date, since me and AleXXX can't edit posts due to not being part of the MI group (Although I remade the last topic anyway)

It important have some good organisation arround here so igues this is the start for it.

Altough Myriad and Illcom is the main subject i want to let people know GTI is still having free lots and needs some nice architecture to fit in.

For now i already have filled arround 12 lots in the center and i still got 3 reserverd but anyone willing to fill up the smaller island or some lots on the main island let me know then i will see what i can do to make it all clearly.

Aad if you need more help on GTi I don't see why it can't be handled the same was as illCOM on here, for example add GTi to the lto request topic if people feel like building elsewhere etc.

i know Gtauron but the main thing is now that GTI get filled by some nice architecture and there was a topic with a lot map and a list that showed which were free and which were taken and in what stage those lots were but like everthing in here it gets lost and locked or trown away. So if anyone is interested just search for the topic or send a pm to get my attention or else it wont get updated.

erm... we could do this kind of topic it other topic made by cran and I could do the new Request Lot topic instead of having all that garbage that was made in Cran's topic...

After all was called map discussion. Meh. As long as there's a pinned topic where you can ask request lot changes, and an unpinned topic for discussion, does it matter?

We need to discuss the following:

• Barber shops, Tattoo parlours, gyms, basketball courts and properties' locations.

I'll need a lot on the island with Black Mesa on it, preferably not far away from the mountain itself, cause my lot has a lil' something special. turn.gif

Also I don't know if this applies to the lots themselves, but I really dislike the current lighting we're using, it's just like Los Santos, and MI has no point to give off an LS color tone, since it's up north. Where as LS is in sunny California. Something like the country side's or San Fierro's lighting scheme suits MI far better.

I'll stop sh*tting the thread up now. tounge.gif

Actually I agree with you there.

Oh btw, talking of Black Mesa, I vote an observatory with a mega telescope to go up there. If nothing else has been modelled yet.

Lighting is already being discussed in the Radiosity Prelighting topic. By making each thrwad one cover a specific thing, stuff won't get lost. It's almost like each topic will be about a topic. Amazing! tounge.gif

Lord Fido, I think all those things are SCM scripted. But since they also involve buildings and buyable objects, I've made an [Official] Amenities: Scripting and Building topic for them.

Aad and Black-hawk have raised a some more administrative questions:

  • Is it time to make maps of the Northern islands? More and more people are requesting to build on it, so I think its is.
  • Are the current sections of land suitable for using as lot boundaries? I'd like GForce's view on that in particular, if someone can find him.
  • Who will make and maintain the Northern map? Snow Racer is in charge of lot ownership, so I think he should.
  • Aad, since you're in charge if GTI it's your duty to organise stuff on it. That includes finding the old picture and bringing it up to date.
  • Snow Racer, would you answer questions 2 and 3 from my previous message please? Also, I think you can choose where the image is hosted since you are now the owner of it. Decide carefully, because it must stay at that same location until we can put it on http://www.myriadislands.com/lots.png.
I'm not sure which of Aad and Snow Racer should maintain the GTI lot list in the long term. Once Aad gets the map up to date, Snow Racer could manage any more requests for it. That should give consistency to the decisions which are taken on lot ownership throughout Myriad Island.

I think Snow Racer will call the shots normally, but any problems will be discussed as a community in here. I think the first post in the pinned topic should have the most recent lot list in it, so it's in the same place as all the requests.

Lord Fido has asked about scripted amenities like food, clothes, haircuts, tatoos and so on. I think these are SCM scripted. Since they need dedicated buildings, involve lots of files we could customise (especially clothes) and the code for them hasn't been researched yet (AFAIK), I figure it needs a dedicated thread. smile.gif

Note that I'm not putting myself in charge of this or anything, I'm just making a topic for people to coordinate research, figure out locations, sort out interiors and so on.

So, where are we with these?

  • Does anyone know how they work?
  • Has anyone already made some buildings they want these amenities to be in? The shopping mall(s) have been suggested. There was a clothes shop on the West coast of illCOM wasn't there, by Odie?
The hot dogs trucks, street vendor carts, drinks machines, weapon shops and stuff like that also goes here. Basically, anything which you can buy can be talked about here.

Development of vehicle-based side missions such as Vigilante, Firefighter and the Ammunation shooting competition won't go in here.

Mall clothing shop nº2 )i don't know name) . It is on the first floor of the mall and it consists of sport wear like on Pro laps.

Food locations (most are going to work as the fast food stands in SA):

Donut shop . Located on LazioFreaks' swiming pool. Consists of : Fast food , ice cream and donuts.

Fast food stands . There are a couple of Fast food stands on MI. One is near Myraid Planet and the other one is on the art gallery. Food consists of hamburgers and fries.

I'm no coding expert, but I'll explain it in the best way I can

The game has the interiour loaded, the door that you go through however, is a different model. The game then uses the SCM/IPL to make a yellow marker. Upon coming withing contact of that marker, the SCM jumps in and changes the camera angle. The SCM then makes the menu appear. Then it applies basic animations on the door AND the player when you change clothes. The SCM also tells the player.img names. When you exit the menu, the script cuts off and puts your camera back to normal. As far as I know, it is an external script

About where to put the stores, in any Mall would do, like Vice City wink.gif

Tips for Success

Do not try to do this quickly. You will make a mistake and cause a lot of problems for yourself. If you go slowly and follow these instructions, everything will work fine.

This guide is for GTASA 1.0 only. Installing MISA into GTASA 2.0 is not currently supported. If you know how to do this safely, please tells us how in this topic. smile.gif

Download These First

Here are all the files you will need to install Myriad Islands for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (MISA):

Create a New Install

It is recommended that you make a new install of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (GTASA). If your current installs of GTASA have been modded, you may need to uninstall the game and then install it again.

If your GTASA already has Mods

Uninstall GTASA

  1. Go to Start > Programs > Rockstar Games > GTA San Andreas and select Uninstall GTA San Andreas.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
GTASA has now been uninstalled.

Make a new Install of GTASA

  1. Put your GTASA DVD into your DVD drive and close it.
  2. After a short while, you should see a window appear in the middle of your screen.

    user posted image

  3. Click the Install button and follow the on-screen instructions.
You now have an unmodded install of GTASA.

Create an Install just for MISA

  • Find the folder where your unmodded install of GTASA is:
    • Normally GTASA will have been installed in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas.
    • Double-click My Computer from your desktop or in the Start menu.
    • Go to the Rockstar Games folder so you can see the GTA San Andreas folder.
  • Select the GTA San Andreas folder.
  • Open the Edit menu and click Copy.
  • Now open the Edit menu and click Paste.
  • You'll normally get a window saying Copying Files... which will take several minutes to run.
You should now have a folder called Copy of GTA San Andreas.

user posted image

This is the install you will use just for MISA.

Cleaning the Install

  1. Find where you downloaded Steve-M's Map Cleaner.
  2. Double-click the MapCleaner.exe file.
  3. The program will start and you'll see this:

    user posted image

  4. Click the Browse for SA Game Directory button and select the folder you are using for MISA. This will probably be C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Copy of GTA San Andreas.
  5. Click the Start button and wait while it collects information.
  6. When it asks "Do you want to apply the changes?" click the Yes button.
The San Andreas landscape has now been removed from this install.

Installing MISA v0.5

  1. Find the MISA v0.5 Installer.
  2. Double-click the MI_SA_V0.5beta1.exe file. The installer will appear:

    user posted image

  3. Click the Next button.
  4. The license agreement will be displayed. If you agree, select that option and then click Next.
  5. When asked where you want to install MISA, select the GTASA install you cleaned. This will probably be C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Copy of GTA San Andreas:

    user posted image

  6. Click the Next button to reach the final page:

    user posted image

Click Next to start the installalation. It may take several minutes.

Once it has completed, the main parts of MISA v0.5 will have been installed. smile.gif

Installing the Patch

The MISA v0.5 Patch fixes weapon aiming and creates the ocean. We recommend that you install it:

  1. Find the MISA v0.5 Patch you downloaded.
  2. Double-click the MISAv0.5bPatch.exe file.
  3. When asked where you want to install the patch, select the same place you installed MISA 0.5. This will probably be C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Copy of GTA San Andreas:

    user posted image

  4. Click Install and it will begin. It should finish quite fast.
You have now completely installed MISA v0.5!

Installing the Paths

Paths have not yet been made for the whole MISA. However, more are being added all the time and are getting better as the format becomes more understood.

  1. Unzip mi-sa-test-paths.zip to a safe place on your computer.
  2. Copy the paths.img file.
  3. Go to your C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Copy of GTA San Andreas\data\paths\ folder.
  4. Paste the paths.img file into that folder, replacing the file which already exists.
You will have cars driving around the roads on the illCOM island.

Playing MISA v0.5

Create a shortcut to the GTASA install you have used for MISA.

  1. This will probably be in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Copy of GTA San Andreas\.
  2. Use My Computer to open that folder.
  3. Right-click the gta_sa.exe file and select Create Shortcut.
  4. Drag the shortcut to where you want it to be, such as on your desktop.
  5. Before you start playing, you need to know this:
    • When the GTASA menu appears, select Start Game and then New Game.
    • You will start inside a tall tower.
    • There is a staircase behind and to your left. Walk down it.
    • Turn right and walk through the doorway into the open elevator.
    • The screen will go black and you will appear at the bottom of the tower.
    • Walk forwards out of the elevator and turn right.
    • Go down the stairs and out of the door.
    • You can now explore the rest of MISA.
  6. You now can start playing MISA by double-clicking the shortcut you made.
Have fun! xmas.gif

Problems?

If you have any problems installing or playing MISA, ask in the FAQ and Help topic. You will need to be registered with a GTA Forums account.

So it's basically a cull zone for the camera, like when you drive into pay n sprays etc, and is handled very similar to the car mod shops?

Where will the image now be hosted

same as always (here)

Should the first post be updated to reflect most up-to-date information?

no need

Who should update the first post?

no one

Is it time to make maps of the Northern islands? More and more people are requesting to build on it, so I think its is.

illspirit didn't released his updated islands so no and we should fix, fill and rebuild some lots on illcom

Are the current sections of land suitable for using as lot boundaries?

I thinik so...

Who will make and maintain the Northern map? Snow Racer is in charge of lot ownership, so I think he should.

I can but it needs Steve's map thingy

that dosen't matter if we gonna use scripted version of SVG map that Steve did...

if it will ever happen...

lol totally forgot about the scripted lot map, good point.

I think having the lot boundaries on illnorth as they are now is a good idea as it means if an author wants to do a small project they can use illCOM or GTi, and have illRES and illURB for large projects.

Layered Water Test - 217kB WinRAR archive.

Proof of concept for layered water enabling tunnels beneath fully functional oceans. This is just for testers and developers. The readme.txt file has more blurb.

I can now make continuous water above the tunnel in which you can swim, dive, drown, fall into, sink cars in, pilot boats on, etc. This can have a completely waterless zone below, in which you can run and drive normally. smile.gif

Here's a sketch I made of the layering idea it uses:

user posted image

1024 x 768, 127kB.

Type 2 means the flag value is 2, for example. Type 2 water has an invisible surface. Type 2 and Type 3 have a normal water surface but their underwater effects only go down 6 units maximum. Have to put the layers 4.5 units apart (or less) to avoid the player making strange transitions between each layer.

The bottom layer is visible for testing purposes only. That's also why the water is in one half of each tunnel; so you can see it when swimming and trying other stuff.

This will bloat the water.dat somewhat, but it's only gonna be kilobytes. I'll look into cullzones next. They'll be needed for illSTA's curved ends wrapped around a spiral freeway tunnel to be possible.

But yay, a drivable tunnel beneath water! biggrin.gif
