Cran: You must admit that GTA-XYZ gave one the 'illusion' of freedon of will but...

 

We could create a totally free and open ended game, where the individual player's morality governs the outcome.

 

Join the local gang, or 'clean up the hood'. A moral choice. Either way one could still 'win' the game.

Side missions based upon property ownage.... this could work indeed!

The only downside to this I can think of right now, is that there wouldn't be any real goal throughout the game. Unless ofcourse you start categorizing the properties according to price.

 

For example:

- 3 properties wich each have 3 side missions: 0 - 10000 MI$

- 4 properties wich each have 4 side missions: 10000 - 30000 MI$

- 5 properties wich each have 5 side missions: 30000 - 60000 MI$

- and so on...

 

One way to have a sort of storyline is to unlock the 10k - 30k missions only when you've finished the 0k - 10k missions, and so on...

I like the idea but I'd only force the player to complete one of a number of level 1 missions to unlock the level 2 missions (with a level 1 mission possibly being a set of missions tied to a property). This way you could choose to rush through the game or finish everything. It would prevent getting frustrated by one stupid mission. Of course this would make a complex logic storyline impossible or difficult but that isn't really something that's needed anyway. A few returning characters would be nice but it'd be difficult to make a SanAn style soap opera, anyway.

Thinking about it, that would be pretty interesting. Maybe you'll have the choice of being a good guy?

 

Like, at the start of the game, cops get you, and you can either;

1. Take a fine, lose most of your money

2. Work with the cops, clean up myriad.

 

And many other things where you can pick a number of options. Maybe even joining my nerd gang, and you have to work your way up!

 

But to make it better, we still need to have some kind of voicework. Otherwise it feels a bit n00bish, if you get what I mean. But I like this, it gives pretty much unlimited replay-ability.

 

But there has to be a few things set;

 

  • The main issue in myriad; GTA3 had Spank, Vice lots the lost drug money and so on
  • Few main characters, and gangs

Alexg: I wasn't suggesting you show previous work, you allready did. I was talking to Yeti, who hasn't shown anything but still got a large lot to start out with. Dammit...am I the only one here who strikes this as odd?

 

And about Odies lot, that's up to Steve M. No buts...

What everyone seems to be forgetting is, we already have a story. Back in 2004 we held a big competition and people voted on which story they preferred for Myriad. As far as I know there was never any decision to disregard the chosen story.

There was significant discussion some time ago on the private Myriad boards about the storyline to make it more action based in the beginning, but nothing was ever finalised.

 

I personally like the story that was written (by SadisticMachine) and it opens a wide world for Myriad. It doesn't force the player to adhere to a strict storyline, though the motive of the player is to save the father, this could be done at anytime provided the player has the money. And to do this the player can go off and do any number of submissions and mini-games. I have a largish story-arc planned (I had a story line planned before, but I've mostly scrapped that in favor of a different one, I'll type up a summary sometime).

Mmmm, thast what I said last page. Even if we had this story line, nothings stopping us from having anything as submissions.

 

But with that storyline, i'd imagine the events would go;

  • Work
  • Get money + save father
  • Go up though the ranks
  • Get revenge
  • Hold power + fight gang reinforcements
Have whatever missions in between. Starting missions would have the basic starting out GTA3 missions to it, like pick up whatever, drop someone off, assist someone, kill someone, etc.

This is a lot of apartments, so I'll build simply some apartments and houses (not a lot because it's a medium-small lot), but if possible it will be nicely to make a very small shop in the houses building, like a pharmacy or a greengrocer's

JB, that isn't a central storyline. It's just an introduction plus one mission. The free-roaming, do anything you want whenever you want style I'm suggesting would remain. I had forgotten about it but it's perfect. smile.gif

 

I'm just saying we shouldn't try to create a heavily scripted, cinematic storyline with lots of sequential missions which everything is centred on.

 

It would be a sort of free-roaming, money-based RPG. The player does stuff for money so they can buy weapons, clothes, houses, special cars, resprays, vehicle mods, gambling, etc. Or they can just do stuff for fun. They start with no money.

 

There would be no other missions, no central storyline. Just sub-missions which can be done whenever they want. Loco G's descriptions are exactly what I have in mind. SadMac's introduction gives the player a sensible start point for this.

 

It might be nice to have some fairly simple property aquisition missions like in GTAVC. Some racing missions might require the player pay an entry fee. Races with more prize money would require a bigger entry fee. Apart from natural limits like that, entry to missions would be unrestricted.

 

(EDIT) No missions should have "follow path X or Y" choices because the player will get stuck in one mode or another for some time. Everything should be available all of the time. It's then down to the player to get the money, skills and equipment to carry out each sub-mission.

 

Because sub-missions are independant from each other and from property aquisition missions, it would be much easier to actually produce than a centralised storyline.

Aye..just keep money rewards really low...realistic etc. Oh and how about you gotta pay daily rent? (instead of like monthly lol) and if you get into big debt you get kicked out and have no save point..then you gotta earn money to pay rent again to save haha.

 

Hmm...I know...would it be possible to program the garages or whatever to only open for cars the you yourself own (aka you bought it) and not for stolen cars or whatever? dunno if there's a way to do it..would be cool as you would have to own your own car if you wanna save a car all the time, but you could steal if you wanted, just it would mean you had to dump it where it then get reposessed.

Im sorry but you must take a entire lot (a entire square of land surrounded by roads) .

 

My lot is going to be in the gheeto but it'll be based mainly in the low , poor and little commerce areas in the little mex. It'll have my version of FedEx, a park , a cop station and few tall apartments. If possible I'LL try to add my gang, the mexicans.

You can even retexture the ingame ads for sunnyside taxis to be MI taxis. But what will happen in GTI?

Exist 2 taxis in SA, one can be myriad taxis, and the other another company. for GTI (I dont have idea if can be possible to a car to run only in a island) we can edit one of the cars in sa, like the f*cked cars or another, changind something we can do it like a taxi and play taxi missions.

 

I do the taxi building, I use the VC interior and some textures... but a new exterior.

Nice One Jost_Vice i like that look of your taxi company , and about GTI it doesnt have one yett but i know that someone is making one too im just waiting for him to show his work. And i know will get back to work on my building it will have a small interior. and i dropped my building showed earlier to much work.

Dont imitate, recreate or copy just get your own ideas. Simplicity makes difficulty easy

OK, let's clear things up for those of you who haven't read the topic fully.

 

ILLCOM: Normal lot spacing stands, as shown on the map

 

ILLNORTH: Looks like it'll be split into big chunks, lot whole city blocks. End of the day, it's up to Illy.

 

Therefore I don't see why AlexG can't have c9-r6..I never found anything useful to do with it (was me old lot lol)

GTAuron, I think that would just be annoying. Entry to missions should be as unlimited as possible and save points should be as available as possible. People have stuff to do other than play GTA. smile.gif

 

However, the idea of having to buy certain stuff is good. Buying food, weapons and street races in GTASA works nicely. Maybe you'd have to pay rent on some locations until you complete their aquisition missions? It shouldn't be much if you do.

 

We should try to make it pretty simple, otherwise it won't be feasible for one or two SCM'ers to actually make it. Remember that we aren't a design house, we're a group of hobbyists. Copying existing sub-mission code would probably be the best starting point.

Beh, I'm not interested to have that precise lot... I'd like to have a free lot where I can model buildings...

I chose that lot because it isn't very big, but if there is a big lot where I can build on, never mind, give me that lot
