Wow! Not only the buildings look great and very creative, I also love that extra road and your playing with the different heights of the terrain. That's the quality we need. icon14.gif

Hmm, I'll probably do the car paths on illnorth, maybe even those on the other islands. But ped paths are much more work (since most of them can't be done by simply extracting splines from existing geometry), so I'll definitely appreciate some help with that. Anyway, there's still some coding and much testing to do before I (or anyone else) can start building paths, so no hurry. And they could always be extended at a later time, maybe just having cars everywhere is fine for a start.

Myriad Islands Railway Topic (most recent message you have not read).

 

 

JasonB's Role

The route is mainly done from the East coast of Necrosis, around illSUB, onto the South-east of illCOM, past the East coast of illCOM and up to the South-east corner of illRES. This has been done by JasonB.

 

It is lacking the illSTA island. This is a huge job but the layout of illSUB and the position of illSTA have been sorted out. JasonB will be making illSTA. It fits on a straight piece of track, so the route of the railway will not be changed by it.

 

The shadowing of the railway tracks has yet to be finalised. It will probably be textured for efficiency. JasonB, illspirit and Steve-M havn't resolved this debate, AFAIK.

 

 

Illspirit's Role

The railway route across illRES and illURB will be made by illspirit. I've had detailed conversations with him about how it approaches from illCOM. He intelligently adapted the East coast of illRES to accomodate a railway station and make for a more sensible entrance for the tunnel under Black Mesa. I'm not sure of his progress on this.

 

Last time I checked (about a month ago) he was making lots of major improvements to the roads, pavements and kerbs on the northern islands.

 

 

Respawn's Role

The railway on Necrosis is being made by Respawn, who is making everything for Necrosis (it's his island). It is expected to follow the yellow part of my 6th (and last) version 2D route plan:

That plan is somewhat innaccute as the route around the East coast of illCOM will be directly North-south.

 

 

Conclusion

I think there are many more months of work before the railway route is completed. Judging by the rate of progress over the past month, it probably will not be completed with all stations in place and trains running around it before 2007. It's a very big task, but luckily most of the core design work is done.

 

Layout and positions of other railway stations have not been confirmed, although I have some thoughts on that.

@ Cerb : I'm sure in your second paragraph you mean ILLSTA instead of ILLSUB...

 

 

btw, I don't see the changed turn around ILLSUB in your 6th 2D route plan.

I don't wanna burst your bubble, but if you had read the 'New to Myriad' topic, you'd have read :

 

 

No recycled buildings from any GTA series will be allowed. All models must be made from scratch

ok then, gotta find a way to replace all those buildings i used.

 

EDIT: Can i use MODIFIED and RETEXTURED recycled buldings?

What is going on with gangs. Is Myriad gonna have gangs? What could be the turfs/territories ? How could they look like ? And their cars?

 

In the VC Myriad Islands there was more o' less a kind of criminal gang, a kind of german guys that used a white polo shirt. They drove this kind of german car and only showed up in Odie's German District.

 

I'm doing in my lot a little mexico themed thing. And I hope that when steve-m finishes with the paths we could make a new pedgrp.dat with all the Myriad Islands districts/Islands and then Grand Tani. We could assign gang turfs in the map. If someone posts a map with all the Islands (Northern, Comercial , GrandTani) I could make a little sketch version of the gangs.

No. It really should be all your own work. R* had deadlines, we have all the time in the world.

I wouldn't even suggest using any of R*'s textures, most of them are 'poop' anyway.

Make your own.

 

Do it all, from scratch, for yourself.

So, i have the LordFiDex Factory ready (yes, a joke for FedEx) , the Bike Factory, the chapel and the 3 houses. I just need the Col file. How do I make a Col file? lol.gif I'll have to learn.

It's good to know about the work that goes on 'behind the scenes'.

 

DopestaR: It looks as if it's a toss up for Gforce between...

 

1. Sorting out the mess us lot modellers have made and releasing a bug free, invisible .COL of Doom free upgrade for 0.4.

 

2. Releasing what he's got, plus MI-generics, the Northern Islands update et al.

 

3. Hang around, on the never never for every little improvement.

 

Hey, Gforce. at the end of the day, it's up to you. There's no rush.

@Cerb Mmmm, although it's taken this long, it's good that the railroad has been properlly planned and realistic. Final on what kind of train are using? Or just taking the ones from San An when we get the track in?

We already have a punk gang (Illy made some ped models for that) and I had an idea for a nerd like gang. You know, there could be desputes over Nvidia and ATi (Obviously would be spoofed names ingame) and there could be missions like, you have to steal a truck full of new hardware that wont be out for months.

 

And I had a great idea for a weapon, a USB Drive grenade! biggrin.gif

Looks good, but before you do any major work, i'd wait for the dev kit to come out for the north islands. But if you don't wont to wait for that long, illcom has a few free lots smile.gif

ATTENTION!

 

I'm going to say this now, just to clear this up;

 

You can't request parts of the North Islands until the Dev kit comes out. YOU CAN work on it if you really want, but some things are going to be changing on the north islands anyway. Before I even think of giving out lots on the north islands, i'd like to get pretty much every lot from illcom taken. BUT if you really find it nessisary to have a lot on the north islands while illcom is not full, say so.

Most of the work and discussions about the railway actually get posted in the MI railway thread by me, so a fair bit of it can be found if you look.

 

I think we are using the San Andreas trains to start with. They are actually really good, so we might not make new ones. At the moment the priority is the railway route, then it will be the stations.
