@ Barton- Thanks for appointing yourself as Script Admin- I really suck at mission coding, as you surely noticed from my crappy script.
Great. It's official then. I'm the Script Admin. And the GXT admin.

 

You don't need to code them, using boat paths (paths.ipl) would be much easier.

 

@ Barton- Once the next island happens, I'll be sure to make a nice bridge for jumping to boats (or suicide ) from.

 

I was thinking about making those large static ships at the docs moveable (if the DFFs for them are still in the IMG).

 

are there going to be new gangs or are there just going to be the vice gangs in different districts?

 

Just send me a PM if you have any specific ideas.

As for a name MODular city sonds very good, but however removes the realism factor. What about a realistic name like "Vice Sands" or "Coral Island". Just a few off the top of my head music.gif

Something to do with the tropics and the sea etc. Just gives the impression of a nice island, i dunno bout London tough, seems a lil small suicidal.gif

Maybe it could be named after a carribean island, or maybe we could call it hawaii, lmao

 

I dont like Modular City, it seems a little, fake, sommet off te matrix, or star wars.

 

I aint got many suggestions, just not modular...[EDIT]

@ Decay- PM window just popped up, I'll go check it. I was thinking about calling it something Sim City-ish too, but I figured the lawyers over at EA would kick my ass. tounge.gif

 

@ Pink Noodles- Hmmm, new gangs would be pretty cool. Maybe somebody will skin some up for Mr Waterduck to code in for us? Didn't somebody ask if they could do some skins a few pages back....

 

@ Rackeller- There's no real order or planning to the type of buiildings atm. Preferebly more downtown-ish, but it doesn't really matter. Creative=good no matter which way you look at it. And yea, a realsitic name would be nice, but methinks it should describe the project a bit too. 'Tis what I was thinking with the modular bit. Vice Sands sounds pretty cool, let's see what everyone else thinks though...

 

@ Kodo- You already have someone designing a site?!? You work fast. biggrin.gif Hosting it here isn't a carved-in-stone idea, I just figured it would make it easier to admin that way. And why'd you have to reserve something while I was working on the map? Now I have to edit it again. tounge2.gif

@ illy-I was wondering if you would let us use some of your models you've created in the past?

 

Name idea... Illy Island or Illy Isle.

 

I think theres great potential here. All these models I see look excellent.

 

My house is starting to form a basement. It looks really lame, but once I drop in some textures and models, it will liven up a lot. colgate.gif

i cant install this mod and get it to work properly. i do what it says but the game either just quits when loading or gives me an error box. i do everything the readme says and it doesnt work. originally i thought it might be because i was read only so i go rid of everything that had readonly and did everything again and it still doesnt work. respawns vice city remover always gives me an error saying COMDLG32 isnt there or some crap. i downloaded runtime libraries for VB and C++ from MS website and nothing. and GhostMaster2k's IDE Killer does jack crap and if i try to delete anything from the IMG manually it doenst change in size. it damn annoying. now i have to reinstall vice city again because its f*cked up. i put all my backups from files that have been modified back and still it crashes

I worked some more on my house, and I finished the shell of the basement, and I textured it. I also started the second floor. So far, its working out fine for me, but I think i'm going to get screwed soon, with all the walls and everything. I have to keep them sized corectly. smile.gif

 

I won't post a screenie again until I get it looking a lot better. turn.gif

When you manually delete the IMG files, assuming you are using IMG tool, make sure you go into the menu, and select "Rebuild Archive".

Something is wrong in the beginning of your gta3.dat. Try it again on a CLEAN install. Also, make sure you did everything right.

Oh god, not another CLEAN INSTALL. That's what illspirit told me to do. And don't you mean gta_vc.dat? If so, I just took the one from this mod, and placed it in the /data folder. whatsthat.gif

ehm... (thinking)... so far, it looks like this is turning into a Sim City game. I guess I should make it as child friendly as possible then. Like, no weapons, no gangs, no drugs, no violent missions, ... dontgetit.gif I don't have a problem with that myself (I think). Too much violence in the world already (I guess). Any opinions ? Maby I could start a topic in mission coding about what sort of "dynamic" elements people want in this mod. I guess any "random drive-by" mods would make it sort of ugly. notify.gif Some gamers love random violence games, like postal, some gamers love "sand box" games, like Sim City. What I'm asking about here, are you guys just making buildings or creating a new game ? Do anybody have any special expectations about the finished product ? Do missions matter ? Do opinions matter ?

 

Personally, I don't like games based on random voilence at all myself. I don't see any fun in that concept. I'm a sort of "mission only" kind of person, like, if there aren't gonna be any missions in this mod, I'm not gonna have any special interrest in playing it. To me, there would be nothing to do. Just walking around looking at the buildings.

 

I think maby it would be an idea to discuss what sort of buildings should go where, like, what are beaches usually used for ? Street races ? In salty sand ? Not recommended. Hotels ? why not. Makes sense to me. Where do you find residental buildings ? Usually near residental areas. Same with commercial buildings. They are usually in commercial areas. And that train station. I'm thinking rail roads. On a tropical island. Maby it's a great idea. Dunno myself. Maby I'm just asking about stuff beyond anybodys expectations. Do we need a big boss to control where this mod is going ? Or is that a very bad idea.

To answer some of your questions from my POV, i would say, what would vice city be without lots of violence, i dont mean mindless constant violence, but violence like how it is in the game now. RULE VIOLENCE!!!

 

Anyway, moving swiftly on....Is it possible to have a Ferry, and have lil ports around the island so you can jump on and go for a trip on the boat. That would be pretty sweet. And at one this mod is a bit like sim city you could have a mission where you must shoot down UFO's or something (Simcity 3000) lol, getting a little OTT now i spose.

It's a new city. It's a CLEAN city. There is NOTHING in it. At all. No buildings. You do not even need to install it yet, because you get nothing. Because it's empty. When there is stuff in it, you need a SEPARATE install, because your old original GTA VC will get replaced with a completely new city. This mean CLEAN INSTALL.

 

rackellar: A ferry would be better than those old ships. You can hijack a ferry and sell the cars in it.

I think UFO's are possible to code. You just set it up in the 'object.dat' file as a destroyable object. Like that random flying dodo you can shoot down in gta 3.

I think we should have violence. MAybe place a ped in a house,and your mission is to take a meat cleaver or bat and kill him. Just for fun. blush.gif

Many of the bulidings are coming with an interior to explore already.

Not true Barton. Since I have finished The Bunker, illspirit has sent me the files to install it on that lot. I just have to get the game working.

There won't be any weapons in there. Thats for sure (except, I'm not the boss, so dozingoff.gif )
