PCJ.
Ok, so I downloaded MSN Messengeer 7.0 last week and it refuses to work. Basically, when I open the program, it closes soon after. It would be ok, but when I uninstalled it and reinstalled MSN Messenger 6.0, I get the same problem now, when this never happened before. Does anyone have any idea what may be going wrong, and how to fix it?
jersiq
Hey, i have a question about windows networking. I can't seem to figure out how to get me printer and files (which are on the main PC) to be accessible by the laptop. I tried the setup windows network thing, but i do not have a floppy to make a disc so it can be run from the mainj jpc. How would i do it? Sorry for the short reply ( I am at work), but maybe this site can help you Click Me
Wolf68k
@GameMaster90 My bad. I didn't notice that. @Segosa I've heard it's possible but I've never tried it myself and I don't know the details do it. You're GFX card doesn't have 2 video ports? Most cards have 1-VGA & 1-DVI, or 2-VGAs, or 2-DVIs. One problem you might have is in the BIOS. Some mobos will allow only AGP/PCI or on-board to run. Reactor.
I want to replace this otherwise good mouse with the latest MX1000, obviously the reciever that powers and charges the mouse is also used for the keyboard. As I only want to replace the mouse would the new reciever for the MX1000 support my keyboard so I don't have to have two reciervers sitting around my PC? Unfortunately the MX1000 receiver isn't backwards-compatible, so you'll still have to have your keyboard receiver there. I've heard that Logitech might be bringing out a keyboard/mouse duo with the MX1000 in it though, but I don't know when.

I did this using the onboard and an old PCI card in an old HP mini-tower. It worked fine and I didn't run into BIOS problems. Not good for any acceleration on either, but a Firefox window or a chat window ran fine. It is prefferable to run both off of your GFX if possible. magical_trevor
I am having a few problems with windows update. Basically, if I try to download the updates from the windows update site, every download comes up as 'initialising' and then 'failed', and the automatic update is even more screwy, about 2 minutes before the little yellow shield thingy appears, it starts raping my PC and slows it down a bit, then it starts trying to download the updates. At this moment, I am about 30mb behind on updates and am using 56k, yet when the little yellow shield appears saying 'downloading' it skips from 0% to 10% to 33% in a matter of seconds, then the shield disappears and no updates are downloaded.. Help? I have already run anti-spyware and anti-virus scans, and a few weeks ago, I had something called adware.windupdates (sounds like windows update?) on my PC, but Norton supposedly removed that, so I don't know what is causing the problem. This PC has been screwy as hell since I installed SP2

I'm not quite sure how these drive encryption things work but it might be possible if you can store an encrypted volume which, when you run a program (which is run by autorun by clicking on the icon), is unlocked and mounted. Probably not worth the effort. sysnode.org
Wolf68k
Many USB thumb drives, I'm guessing that's what that is, makers offer software for securing the data. I've never tried it for myself though. Exactly is the make and model of the drive in question?

Lockdogg
Want someones opinion. I've decided to invest in an 6gb ipod mini 2nd generation. Should I.... A: Go for the $208.00 refurbished( i feel weird knowing it was sent back to a company factory for being defective) B: Stop being so damn cheap and go for the $221.00 brand new one. It's only a $13 difference, who cares? In theory, the new one should have a slightly higher chance of being defective, as I'd think refurbished specimens are tested more, being ex-defective or otherwise unwanted. sysnode.org

GTA3Freak-2001
Got an annoying little problem here, initiating the "disk cleanup" on my primary HDD results in the message box which shows a progress bar of it calculating what it can do to free some space. The thing is it gets to 3 bars long and then does not move any further even after several hours of letting it suposidly do its thing. The only thing I can do is press cancel. WalkerBoh
I wondered if it's allright to store things inside your computercase. Like pill containers and other paraphenalia. I 've been doing it, I just make sure nothing is touching the hot circuits or blocking fans or something.

These days, short of looking under the mattress and in shoe boxes in the closet, the PC case is the first place to go snooping.
Reactor.
Does anyone know of any programs that can rename the title and artist of an MP3 file? Not the filename but the stuff that's displayed in a playlist. I've got a rock CD here whose tracks were completely mislabelled, and it's hard to find Alice Cooper's 'Bed of Nails' when it's apparently called 'Treat Me Well' by Heart. Wolf68k
You want to do the info in the ID3 tag, something in here http://www.dailymp3.com/id3tagging.html should help. Many to choose from. Here are some others http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/gmm/fwmp3.html all of which are known to be freeware. Although not everything here are just for editting the ID3 tags, some are and some aren't. It would take me a while to find the program I use to use, but it could do it on a batch to change the things like Artist, Album, Genre, Year and so on that would be the same for everything and which can save a good amount of time. It's was also able to just copy everything from ID3 v1 tag to the ID3 v2 tag and vise-versa, which again saved a bunch of time.
fido2
Foobar can do batch tagging, manual tagging, and automatic tagging (via freedb - you need the special version to do this).
arjun
QUESTION: I got a new laptop, with lightscribe and a DVD+/-R burner. I'm just wondering, I have a backed up ISO of a movie (legal), which is essentially a complete backup. It has menus and everything. My question is, can Nero burn this ISO to a dvd so that it will be playable in my DVD player? I would usually be sure it can, but on my old copy of Nero on this desktop, there's nothing that can burn an ISO on a dvd. BTW: I'm not asking about compatibility or anything, just if Nero can burn ISO's onto DVD's so they can play in real players. And again, this movie is a backup of one I own, I'm using the ISO as a test. Thanks again!
