Just to let you guys know, I got the FX 5500, and its pretty good. It plays Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 on high settings, and I'm gonna try it out on some other games soon. Its probably the best PCI card available.

I've updated the drivers and all that jazz but not a damn thing will do.

Is it so much to ask just to play a stupid fricken song without buying something non-PC related like a damned $150 stereo or fucking iPod?

Please help.

My computer and I are on the virge of extinction.

Please watch the language. Personally I have no problem with it, I swear like a drunken sailor myself, and I don't even drink...and I'm not sailor either.

However there are a number of minors that come to the boards, and yes I know most kids know these words already but that's not the point.

I competely understand when something doesn't go right you just have to swear, curse and scream, just keep that part of it for youself or try to remember to censor your post (works for me).

Was this a good deal? I bought a SAPPHIRE RADEON 9250 128MB AGP 8X on eBay for $35, including shipping and handling. Here's the features it has:

# 128MB or 256MB of 400MHz DDR memory accelerates the latest cutting edge 3D applications

# Available in both a 128-bit and 64-bit memory data path interface

# ATI RADEON™ 9250 VPU operating at 240 MHz

# Supports the AGP 8X and AGP 4x standard or PCI Bus, providing a high-speed link between the graphics board and the rest of the PC

# Four pixel shader pipeline

# Full support for Microsoft® DirectX® 8.1 and DX9 compliance and the latest OpenGL® functionality

# SMARTSHADER™ technology

# VIDEO IMMERSION™ and FULLSTREAM™ technologies which provide for amazing video playback quality.

# Integrated DV support for Flat Panel displays

# Powered by CATALYST™ - The industry's most stable unified graphics software

I think it was, now maybe Vice City will run like a beast on my computer. tounge.gif

Where are you getting this features list?

I mean was this an eBay deal where a guy had a few Sapphire 9250 cards so you might get the 128MB or the 256MB which ever he felt like sending? Or also; you might get a 128-bit or a 64-bit, again which ever he felt like sending? And again with the slot type; AGP or PCI.

And the 9250 will have full support for Direct 8, maybe 8.1, and while it will run just fine with Direct 9 installed don't confused that it will support everything that DX9 has to offer.

You can get that card new at newegg.com for around the same price and you'll know exactly what you're getting.

That's the link for the card on eBay. I sent the guy an email asking him whether it was an AGP or a PCI, and he replied AGP. That's all I know. Should I ask him some more questions?

Meh, when I go into Control Panel I get prompt several times:

*Finally* after it was done prompting me with the same message over and over, I did exactly what you told me and went to the Audio tab - oddly enough my sound card is selected for each one of the options. And I still continue to get the original error message in Windows Media Player.

Yes, many questions.

128-bit or 64-bit memory?

New, used or referished?

And oh yeah, if you can back out of the deal?

$35.00 plus $10shipping? Like I said at newegg.com you can get the exact same card, new, for less including shipping.

The first one they have listed is $35.50 plus $3.00 shipping. That's a savings of $6.50 and this one you know is new and it's 64-bit memory.

Or if you're going to spend $45.00 on a card newegg.com has the GeForce FX5200 with in that price range which does give full support to DX9 and OpenGL1.4 (the 9250 only supports DX8.1 and OpenGL1.3) plus it is 128-bit memory.

Run ScanDisk. Your HDD might be reporting the wrong ammount of free space.

Also clean out your temp folder.

Yeah, I think I am going to back out of it. I mean if I can cough up a couple extra dollars for an even better card, I'll do it. I took your advice and looked up some of the cards on that website. Tell me, out of these two, which is the better one: ASUS V9520-X/TD/128 OR PNY VCGFX52AWB

Sorry guy I don't have much more of an idea for you then. DiskDefrag might help, but I wouldn't count on it. Other than double checking to make sure all of the source files are still where they should be.

I take you do have more than enough room for how big this file should be.

@GameMaster90

I personally don't really care for PNY. There are some other 5200's there that ould be better.

ASUS is good at everything I've seen them to.

What exactly is your budget?

Well my budget would be around $50. Could you recommend one around that price range? I'd gladly appreciate it.

If you have a good amount of RAM consider the Nvidia 6200's with TurboCache from Asus.

Yayness! At lastness my computer worksness!

Finally Installed my 3700+ San Diego chip with an Abit AV8 3rd Eye mobo (VIA chipset) and all is compaitible and works in a stable environment.

Anyway, I did encounter one problem I haven't seem documented around or so.

I thought I had problems with my RAM at one point as memtest was throwing up errors tenfold before eating itself and restarting my machine.

The RAM I have is Corsair XMS PC3200 XL, thats the 1GB dual channel variation which I had with my P4 and I've just bodged it over.

Anywho, Setting by SPD Auto etc liked to die so I set the Tras from 5 to 10 and I ran memtest to 450% before getting bored of waiting.

anywho, is this setting correct? Am I hampering any performance this way? Here's some CPU-Z screenshots:

How much is that NVIDIA GeForce 6200 with TurboCache? I did a quick search on Google and I found one for about $70. But it was PCI-E, and I don't think my computer has a port for that. I think it only has PCI and AGP.

Barbaneez, if you really want your question answered, I think it would be best if you make a topic of your own about it. People hardly ever check out this pinned topic. confused.gif I hope you get all that sorted out.

Question time!

I currently have the Logitech Cordless Keyboard and Mouse set which came with the MX700 mouse. Now this mouse is sending my up the wall. Its battery life is just pathetic charge it for like 12 hours and I get an hour or 2 of use until it starts flashing its red light of doom. I want to replace this otherwise good mouse with the latest MX1000, obviously the reciever that powers and charges the mouse is also used for the keyboard. As I only want to replace the mouse would the new reciever for the MX1000 support my keyboard so I don't have to have two reciervers sitting around my PC?

Oh and before you say replace the batteries, I've tried and they charge great for a month and then they start losing the charge.

Sorry for $50, the best newegg.com is a FX5200 for the nVidia line. They do have ATI 9550SE's but frankly they seem slightly weaker that full FX5200.

@parry

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but MP4s require QT to even be able to play them yes?

If so and if your using QT Pro you can export it to AVI and convert it to DVD with Nero

@SaltonSea123

Any of those cables should would as long it's a CAT5 and a standard patch cable not a corssover cable.

Your 802.11b is too slow..? What connection do you have? 50mbit?! 802.11b goes up to 22mbit last time I checked, well that's my 802.11b card (D-Link DWL-650+). Chances are you're on a ADSL 256k connection and being on the laptop and having it connected to another computer (I'm ashuming here) and your killing off your bandwidth. What speed is your connection?

I'm just telling you here, I don't know sh*t about network cables.. tounge.gif

Thanks for all the help Wolf, but I have finally decided on this card: Fujiplus FP-FX5200 It's just for my budget, and supports DirectX9.

Please tell me if it's not a good buy though, and soon!

I honestly don't know anything about Fuji's track record with GFX cards. I think there was a n ASUS in that list which has a pretty good track record.

All FX5200s will be the basic same, in that they all support DX9 and so on. The only difference the maker.

Hey, i have a question about windows networking. I can't seem to figure out how to get me printer and files (which are on the main PC) to be accessible by the laptop. I tried the setup windows network thing, but i do not have a floppy to make a disc so it can be run from the mainj jpc. How would i do it?

Yeah, this one, but the thing is, is that its Memory Interface is only 64-bit, while the Fujiplus one is 128-bit. confused.gif
