Tornado Rex
Ok thanks for the info, one more question though which one of those is the wireless connetion thing which when i start my laptop up connects me to my network? You shouldn't need any third-party software to connect to your wireless network. Windows should handle it just fine. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Sixdust
Ok, so today I recieved this blue screen on my computer saying my memory was being erased or something like that. (2nd time) last time it happened I lost almost all my pictures. I have a small antec tower and have 3-4 fans inside. My (d) harddrive stoped working even though I replaced the power supply cord and kept making noises, and sometimes it would work if I was lucky. TOday I was fixing my tower up and I took off the front of my small antec tower and one of the two white clips popped out. I popped the chippy thing back in but it won't stay/turn on and my computer has been making some weird proccesor noises lately. I currently have a 450 watt power supply and the tower I want to buy from ebay has a 500 watt power supply. Would that change anything/ destroy everything? Or improve anything? Also does a bigger case mean less overheating? My computer also has turned off twice now due to the cpu overheating which also turned off everything in my room. ALso does leaving a side open to let air in help or make it worse? I have a pentium 4 processor, windows xp proffesional, some sort of current ati video card, 600? something ram etc. ( I am not using my computer because it can't be used, so I am using my sister's computer) Also the wires are quitte messy in their as well and one of the fans is wired with scotch tape because the wire tape underneath it isn't strong enough. Need help now!!!!!!
Luke2004
Is there a way to remove all the desktop for another user without logging onto their username, maybe just going into their files, if you can do it.. how? - Luke.
magical_trevor
If you mean delete the icons on their desktop, go to Documents & Settings> *name of user* > desktop; then delete what you don't want.. If you mean delete their user account, go to start> run> type 'compmgmt.msc' (without the ''s)> go to the 'users and groups' tab>users> right click on the users name, and then click remove. Or if you're feeling less hardcore, I'm sure you can do it from teh control panel. Edited May 18, 2005 by magical_trevor

Luke2004
Thanks, to you both, Waste and Magical Trevor. I've got any other question: Would I be able to make my own theme on just a normal graphic program? If so how would I make it/load it and would I need any additional programs to load it? - Luke. CantTouchThis
Hola. I'm interested in the Apple IBook, but I'm not sure if it can handle everything I want it to. So far my only worry is photoshop, although I really want to learn how to model, I don't think the RAM is good enough. What can I accomplish with the iBook, and will it be able to handle demanding thingys like photoshop and Cinema 4D?
Wolf68k
@gkl Yep, sad that BlackViper.com is gone. But it is archived: http://web.archive.org/web/20041009145152/....com/index.html @CantTouchThis You'd have better luck with a PowerBook if you want go with an Apple laptop. The PowerBooks will cost more but you get much better performance than you would with iBooks. iBooks are good for simple business and people that want an Apple laptop without spending a lot of money and don't have high-end needs. CantTouchThis
I'm indecisive now.... I could get the $999 iBook...it would have all of my portable needs, pretty much. Would an iBook that comes standard with 256MB RAM be able to run Photoshop CS without lagging or whatever will happen if there is not enough RAM? I feel stupid, but I remember hearing that Photoshop needed a lot of RAM, I just want to be able to run Photoshop and I'll be set. btw, the RAM is can be updated up to 1.25GB. You'd definitely want more than that. I'm not a mac guru but most users say you need 256MB just for basic stuff. sysnode.org
Bigs
Here's my question: I use WMP to burn CDs (Don't worry, I use Winamp for listening ). But what I don't get, is sometimes it will go fairly fast, taking about 10 or so minutes to burn 80 minutes. However, sometimes it goes incredibly slow and takes basicall overnight to complete the 80 burn. What is behind this strange happening? Could someone please explaine. Thanks. You said Photoshop and Cinema 4D before, right? I don't know Cinema 4D at all, I won't lie about that. But Photoshop I do know, on both the PC and Mac. The iBook and handle Photoshop, but you will need atleast 512MB of RAM just to live some what happily with it. If you can afford to go for 1GB of RAM, then do it and it'll be much better off. The thing is that the iBook won't be able to do the same work in the same time with Photoshop that a PowerBook can do. The iBook just can't handle hardcore use as well as the PowerBook can, and Photoshop can get pretty hardcore. Now Photoshop Elements, that's no problem and 512MBs will do you proud. But then PSE isn't nearly as hardcore as PS is. Cinema 4D, I had to use Google to look this up, is a 3D editor. Here you'll really want that 1GB of RAM and the performance of a PowerBook over an iBook...hell you'll really want the performance of a Dual-G5 tower. Go with the iBook if you really want to your cost down. But buy the extra RAM from some where else and learn how to install it yourself. Buying the extra RAM from Apple will cost way too much. And any laptop RAM that meets the requirements for that iBook, it'll end up being the same thing you can stick in a PC laptop as well. @Bigs When is the last time you've done a virus and spyware scan? You could have something in the background running. And unless you're forced to use WMP to make your audio CDs for whatever reason. There are a lot of better programs that can do the same thing. Wolf68k
Is there an alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader? It's just way too slow, and, hell, I just need it to view pdfs and nothing else. Read the other pinned topic The PC Chat Internet Directory But in the intrest of time: Foxit PDF BTW, the latest version of Acrobat Reader is said to be faster. I still like FoxIt PDF better although it doesn't have browser plugin like Acrobat Reader does. Install FoxIt PDF is quick and simple. You can almost "install" it on a floppy disk, but you can easily copy the downloaded zip file to one. To install it, just unzip it and live happily ever after. caponester
ok, I got a rather large problem here Yesterday I decided to run my first ever disk defrag, I first ran it on my C drive which contains system files and then my D drive which is storage for pictures, games, vids etc. Anyway after running this I decided to run Disk cleanup on drive C to clear some space, all went well. Then I ran Adaware to get rid of any trojans and what not, again all went well. You may be wondering why the f*ck I haven't gotten to the point yet so I guess I will, I no longer have any sound... I run my Pc and I am no longer greeted by the soft sounds of Microsoft, I can no longer here the classic sound of the Doors, I am sad Basically I have no idea whats wrong, I tried a system restore and it won't let me, I also checked if my speakers were unplugged, which they weren't. My speakers ain't busted either since I used my dads speakers on the pc and still no sound, s basically anyone got any ideas on whats wrong? Is this the end for my Pc, will I need a complete reinstall of XP and it's various dreaded updates which will take all day to download and install. Luke2004
Go into your control panel, and click sounds. Choose the sounds which you'd like and when, you may have disabled it somehow. - Luke.
Wolf68k
So you have no sound at all. Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->Sound, video ang game controllers Make sure your sound card is still listed. If not you might need to just reinstall your sound card. While you're there see if there any items with ! next to them. Side note: you should have searched for the spyware first, then disck clean up and finally defrag. The reason being that first two will remove files. So by doing the defrag first and then other others, you're nice neat defrag work is now left with a bunch of holes in it.
