Dalpura
Too good mate. I'd recently installed an Xvid codec because VirtualDub wouldn't edit an avi without it, don't normally have any codecs (that I've manually installed) being a VLC user. So I've f*cked that off. Thanks a lot.
|Zephyr|
Well, I'm pretty sure about this, but I want to back it up with you guys first, as this isn't my computer I will be installing ram into. My mates computer accepts pc2100, but I can get pc3200 for a fair bit cheaper. The pc3200 would clock its self back and work fine in his system wouldn't it? matthew1g
This has nothing to do with pcs... I just got a motorola L7 (or SLVR). I put some MP3s on it. they all worked fine, except one of them. I plays one third of it, then I get file format not supported or unable to play file when I play it on the Digital audio player. Windows media player plays it fine. So does My PSP, and my N-GAGE and I'm 100% sure it's an MP3 encoded with 128kbs since it says so in the properties. what's up with this?
|Zephyr|
Rightio, I have a printer at my mums work which has a USB B plug on it. I need to hook it up to two computers, and I can't do it via a network. So I'm hoping there is a splitter out there that can help me. I'm after THIS but with 2 USB A ports on it so I can plug two computers into it. The local IT companies are going to charge huge amounts to rip the walls out and put the printer on the network when they only need it for 2 computers in a little room. This is pretty much the only option so please don't go telling me to do something else So basically, I'm wondering if there are splitters like I am after and a link would be great! This was my thought too, but I went and had a look at the computers yesterday ... they have limited the use for general users majorly. You would need to be logged in as admin to make these simple changes, and the people that know this are in Hobart (200km away) and will not share the information. That information should be deleted along with the navigation history. @demonking: I'd like to give you a piece of advise, and I'm sure you'll thank me later if you follow it. Write with proper punctuation and grammar. Refrain from writing "liek diz" and '2' instead of 'to', etc. Although it may seem pointless to you, believe me, you'll get more answers and less insults everywhere you go (on the web of course). One last thing, sorry of there are grammatical or punctuation errors in this post, my native language is not English and therefore it is hard for me. _-playero-_
Hello Linux newb here, installed ubuntu today after many many attempts, and made it work with Acronis OS Selector!!! All by myself cause no one helped me. Just installed Opera with Automatix because I couldn't use the -dpkg command. Now here is my first question; when I tried to use sudo dpkg -install opera.deb It gave me an error about something like dependencies, cant quite remember. Second question. I want to access my NTFS partitions which are hda1 partition1 and hdb1 partition2. If I open them from the Disk Manager I can browse them and open files, but if I triend just opening them from my desktop it says: The folder contents could not be displayedYou do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "hda1". Weird, also, I can log on by simply writting my user name and leaving the password blank, and I did set a password and typing it works, typing a wrong one does not, but leaving it blank does... If any linux junkie wants to help me here. I'm gonna keep reading and reading, and if you can give a link to a good forum please.
facugaich
Ok... Lemme see what I can remember. I can't guarantee this information will be correct/of any help. Dependencies are other packages you need to intall for the specified package to work. Look at the 'error' and install the packages it tells you. Also, the use of Automatix is discouraged (Don't know why). Second problem, when you 'mount' a partition you use sudo therefore it gets root ownership. So, you need root privilegies to access it, which I suppose you're getting when opening the Disk Manager, to access with nautilus try running in a terminar "gksudo nautilus". Also, writing to NTFS is not fully supported afaik. Last problem, maybe it has something to do with an option like autologin but can't remember. And yeah, the login 'problem' was a autologin issue. Another question tho, why do I have to use the 'sudo' thing if I am the owner/installer/admin of the computer?
facugaich
One of Windows' main security holes (I've been told) is the fact that the owner/installer/admin account has unlimited privileges all the time. Therefore, it asks you to reintroduce your password every time you 'sudo' (Well, it doesn't if you have introduced it in the last 15 min or so) to keep your system safe. If you have to write a lot of commands that use sudo, open up a terminal and type "sudo -s". That way you'll gain access to a root terminal with super user privileges. GTAThomas
I've had my GeForce 7900GT for about 5 months now. It's been pretty unrelyable too. Over the past few weeks I've experienced a few artifacts, but nothing huge. But now all I see are these huge deformations when trying to do anything 3D. Here's a pic of San Andreas when I play it: Is there a way to fix this? I'm still under warrenty. Should I just get a replacement? lol EDIT- When I play games the card runs at 66 degrees celcius. 8x AA and 16x AF.
Fozzy Fozborne
Yeah, my first 7900GT was... On my first one, sometimes movies were pink, sometimes not. Mine runs about 48 degrees C. Have you overclocked yours? (P.S. overclocking voids your warranty.) I'd recommend just getting a replacement. It turns out Nvidia decided to use crappy voltage regulators in the 7900GT cards to save money, unfortunately, they seem to be dieing fast (note the fact that most manufacturers stopped making them). GTAThomas
Nah, I never OC'd. I don't even know how (lol). I searched a bit for other people having these problems and it seems to be with the early batch of these cards (like I said I got mine 5 - 6 months ago). My kind was an XFX so obviously I wouldn't want to OC a card that is known for malfunctions. I'll see if I can get a(n?) RMA later. Newegg.com allows a year to send for a replacement so I'm all good. Just look at the comments from when the card was released, and the comments now to see the difference, lol. When I first got it my PC wouldn't boot. I went to buy a new PSU and it worked, then I tried playing Hitman: Blood Money with all settings maxed. I was hoping to get more FPS than 20... SA right now gets 45 on highest resolution. With reviews where games like F.E.A.R. and Oblivion get 70+ FPS, you'd expect better for your own card. Oh yeah. And I also tried with the 93.xx drivers today. Zero problems until about 10 minutes of gameplay when the whole screen fills with deformed textures (above pic). But pretty much the same as with the older ones I had. It sucks. Now the hastle of mailing it back.

Loman
Quick question: I have $250 to spend on an AGP Graphics card, and I can only order from websites which take money orders. What is the best card I can get? Here are a few I was looking at, tell me what you think: HIS Radeon X1650 Pro IceQ II / 512MB GDDR2 Visiontek Radeon X1600 XT Gamer Edition / 512MB GDDR3 XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX Edition / 256MB DDR3 DiabloTek GeForce 6800 GS / 512MB GDDR3 Albatron GeForce 7800GS 256MB GDDR3 The last graphics card I had was a Radeon 9600XT, it's dead now, so any of those cards would be an upgrade (especially now, since I'm stuck with "intel extreme graphics 2"). Any suggestions for other cards are welcomed Edited December 1, 2006 by Loman
~Giggle~
This seems a really stupid question but is the processor separate from the motherboard? Like can you upgrade the prcoessor without getting a new motherboard as long as it is compatible with the motherboard? Or does a new processor mean a new motherboard as well? This seems a really stupid question but is the processor separate from the motherboard? Like can you upgrade the prcoessor without getting a new motherboard as long as it is compatible with the motherboard? Or does a new processor mean a new motherboard as well? Yes, you can upgrade your current processor, but you need to know the socket type, manufacturer, and your motherboard's bus speed(s). Some motherboards allow an upgrade from a P4 to a Core 2 duo, some only allow P4 to PD. What's your motherboard model number?
