just a small question,

what's up with firfox opening multiple tabs when I'm on gtaf?

When do they open?

If they open randomly like a pop-up, it may be some kind of spyware. I've never seen this happen on FF but who knows.

But if they open everytime you click a link it's because FF is cofigured that way, but that would happen in every website not only GtaF (I don't know if that's the case or not). Go to "Option -> Tabs" and look for the avaliable choices.

A coupla' months ago..okay a year ago, I got a 2x512 MB RAM set. I'm looking to upgrade to my mobo's limit (2GB), just for increased playing on BF2 (Noticably, it makes the loading 2x as fast, and there is less skipping).

Now, I KNOW the exact kind of ram I purchased (which has decreased in price by 10 dollars, go figure.

Is paying the extra money (which would be hard to come up with) worth getting just a 2x1024 setup? My mobo has 4 slots (2 sets of dual channel).

For the record, the new 512 set would be 74$ at a 2.5CasLatency, and the likely 1024 set would be 152$ with a 3CL.

@vALKYR

Sorry I forgot who made the card. I just looked up the first one I thought of, besides eVGA.

Do you have any other choices besides those 2 PSUs?

The brand you know should work if XFX says you only need a 20A +12V rail. But there has to be more choices than those 2.

You listed 2 PSUs does one of those include the brand you know or what?

@Warlord

It would help to know what card you're talking about.

Oh yeah, sorry about that, was in a hurry. The card is a Inno3D Tornado nVidia GeForce 2 MX400 64 MB. It doesn't come with a fan on it, only a heatsink, then I added a fan to it, but no differences in heat, so now I got this heatsink and want to install it and overclock it more smile.gif.

I'm installing IPCOP 1.4 on an older pc of mine. It installs fine and everyhting, but when I try to boot I get this error. It happens after linux uncompresses and all the text goes by (drives, info, etc).

Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 3:44

How can I fix this? I don't know much about linux.

@Warlord

The problem with those older cards is that many of the heatsinks are glued on. If there is no noticeable mechanical device holding it in place, like a screw or pin, then you'll have to heat up the glue to loosen it up enough to get heatsink off.

@Mindless

You'd be bettew off asking in IPCOP's support system. They have a mailing list and IRC where you can ask there and get better help.

Allright, thanks. I'll try IRC.

And i'm just quoting this from the last page since it was teh last post and it might have been missed...

Well that's weird.

I can only suggest running Spybot and AdAware (yeah, both) to get rid of some kind of spyware or adware.

Wolf, Nope, my card is held up with two clips, one on the upper left of the heatsink, and another one on the lower right of the heatsink. So, how do I remove the heatsink without damaging those clips?

It should be possible to remove the clip.

I tried looking online for some pics but the only ones I can find shows it was a fan.

Any chance you can take some nice pics of the card, front and back? Then maybe I can give you a better idea on how to tell you to remove the clips.

Damn, I don't have a camera to take any pics of it, I'll try to. But this is exactly what the clips on my VGA look like. Does that help?

I could break the clips and take the heatsink off, but if I need it for something in future it would be a waste to just throw it away after breaking it.

I just need one thing for sure and then I can break the clips, will the card hold a big heatsink with only thermal grease? And how much thermal grease would I need to use on it? A pic would be awesome. If I knew this, I could just stick on the heatsink and removing the clips would not be a problem.

Thanks.

Ahhhh yes that does help. That's called a push pin, or atleast that's what Zalman calls it for their Northbridge heatsinks.

If you flip the card over you should be able to see the other end of the pin. Use some needle nose pliers to squeeze that side of the pin and push it through the card.

Wolf, That worked. Thanks a lot, mate. Really helpful.

Like I've asked in my previous post, will the card hold a big heatsink with only the thermal paste, I can't drill holes in this heatsink because I don't have a drill and it's really tough.

That I can't tell you.

What about seeing if you can keep the stock heatsink on there and afix (glue or zip tie some how) a fan onto it.

Wolf, Damn, you really don't read my posts do you tounge.gif. Like I said in one of my previous posts, I already have a fan on it, but a big heatsink and a big fan would cool better than a fan designed for a big heatsink on a small heatsink now, no?

I just don't want to waste my thermal paste.

@Warlord

I'm old. It's not that I didn't read it, it's that I forgot. Like I said, I'm old, and the memory is the second thing to go....I forget what the first is. tounge.gif

I know you said you don't have a drill. But of all the number of people around you,none of them have a drill either.

Look I just don't trust paste. The maker puts it on there, fine, because if falls off and the card fries then good I get to b*tch them out by writing them a really nasty email.

But if I put it on, I would eithere put on too much, which can do more harm than good. Or I'llput on too little which mean it might fall off.

@Taxman

What mobo? The only reason I ask is because someone else on the forums (I forget who, the read old man part above) that has a Chaintech mobo which has 4 RAM slots but it warns against using all 4. Stupid huh?

Buy the exact same RAM you have now. Same brand, speed, and timing. Just to make sure your keep it running dual-channel...that if the mobo supports it.

It's an ASUS P5GD1 mobo. LGA 775 slot.

Yeah, that's weird....

I was really just wondering how much ditching the 4x512 setup for a 2x1 setup would effect my Ram speed.

Link to comment
Share on other sites

Wait, you have 4x512MB and want to get rid of it. I thought you had 2x512MB and were thinking of either 4x512MB or 2x1GB.

If you are wanting to go from 2x512MB to 2x1GB and you get the same clock speed RAM then only thing to effect how fast the RAM is is the timing, but don't worry about that too much.

Oh and according to ASUS the mobo has a 4GB limit.

Wolf, Oh well, I guess I'll try to get the heatsink drilled then. Thanks for all the help.

The one who had the same problem as Taxman was SmellyJelly, you really are old tounge.gif.

Yo, is there anyways to fix a CRT monitor that's been viciously stabbed with a magnet?
Link to comment

Degauss it, that might help. To degauss, go to wherever you go to change horizontal size, vertical size, Brightness, etc., and look for a magnet. If that doesn't help, I'm out of ideas. smile.gif

Now, I have a question:

I downloaded a big zip file of fonts, but when I extract them they're each in their own folder. Even if I choose "Extract Here". My question is, is there a way to select all of the folders and move the contents to a single folder? Or, perchance does anyone know of a program for installing fonts? I mean, I could do it but it would be very tedious opening a folder, installing the font, closing the folder, opening another, installing another, etc. until I get them all. There are about 100 in total.

Link to comment
Share on other sites

Well, as long as they're in a general area... if you go to fonts in control panel, your file tab at the top will have an Install fonts area. Now, if you manage to pull all of these fonts into one folder (which could be a windows search "*.Extension", you can just do em one by one. Don't know any batch installers offhand though.

Sounds like something in your connection is screwing up. Some more info about it would be helpful.

Well, your router could be getting overpowered, or you may be experiencing packet loss. Try it with it not going thru the router. Personally, I'm betting packey loss. Open up your DOS-Prompt (Run cmd), and do "Ping www.comcast.net" or whoever sponsors your net.

I've got two items on my desktop that I can't delete. Whenever I want to delete them it says that they are being used and therefor they can't be removed.

It's an installation file for ad-aware anti spyware software if that matters.
