It was an amazing Wrestlemania. One of my favourites for sure, all of the matches were great.

Now tomorrow is Wrestlemania XX.....

Heh, I played all of my WWE/F games today, from oldest (Attitude) to newest (HCTP). It really helped me to realise how much these games have improved.. Graphics wise, SD!2 to SD!3 was amazing. Loads better on the eyes. SD!4's highlight was Hogan. wink.gif

Heh. Attitude was still the best oldie though. Playing as Owen Hart.. D-X.. classic 'Taker.. Mankind.. It was fun to see how much they had all come along. Especially Rock.

And yes, XX is nearing 24 hours away. The biggest WWE event in history.

I cant bloody wait!

I remember that hardcore match at X-7, it was funny when Kane was in the golf cart. tounge.gif

@matt: On attitude, those sounds what goldust made when hit were hilarious.

I loved Takers ministry theme in that period....

Top to bottom, X-7 may have been the best all-around show, no silly crap except the Gimmick Battle Royal, but it was supposed to highlight the silly crap throughout the years, so it was all good. Still, my favorite is probably Mania VIII.

LOD were 2-time WWF champs.

The best old wrestling game is Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy is the same with better features but WM2000 had a full season to go through. Those N64 Wrestling games ruled.

No mercy also included so much more that in turn it was disgustingly choppy....still one of the best ever though.

The Early N64 thq games will never be touched, unless they make an indentical game for new systems.

I have no favorite wrestlemania....each had at least one killer match....i didnt find any to be perfect top to bottom but thats almost impossible anyway.

I like to imagine 5 or 10 years from now..

Blade Hart will probably be blossoming by then, imagine how nutty the son of bret hart will be when he hits wwe, which he will guarenteed....Bret wants him their....and besides, hes the son of the greatest there ever was.

Mania 25, Orton will hopefully be at least one of the guys carrying it all, Lesnar, if all goes well, will still be on top of the mountain, even more so then....if he wanted, he could be the best till the age of 40.

Cant f*cking wait...tomorrow will roXors

I forgot about blade. He's what? my age now? He looked about 8 at Survivor Series 97, so hes about my age. Heh, I just hope he has the talent that blessed his family.

But I'd really like Bret to wrestle at least one more match. Everyone would, including himself. It would be a miracle too.

Watching old wrestling movies from like 4 and 5 years ago really brings back some good memories and is getting me and my bro really psyched about XX. A near 70 inch TV is more than enough to have to watch this event, but its just going to make it so much better.

Every match on the card is interesting. Like I've said. I even expect this topic to hit 2000 replies by Monday Morning because of Wrestlemania fever. Sure thats like...85 posts in 36 hours but, all in all, it will probobly get close. I'll be jumping back and forth from my living room to my cpu posting up to date stuff happening at mania and my reactions mostly. But to the respect of matt, and the others in the UK with 5 hour delay on WMXX, im using spoiler tags.

I can just hear the hugest pop tomorrow when the bell gongs as the lights go out. Its going to be deafening.

Yeah man, i wont be able to pust during, as I will be down the street getting intoxicated and having a blast...Mania is gonna be sooooo killer..

I like the last few MSG ppvs where the used the really short, thin entranceway.....where the fans beal over the sides like when the rock won the ladder match at summerslam vs HHH....or When Lesnar suffered his first loss to the Big Shizzle.

edit: very kewl article...worth reading for once.

The following are the buyrates for the past Wrestlemania PPVs (going back to 1987). A 1.0 buyrates translates to roughly 400,000 buys. Note that WWE is hoping that Wrestlemania XX draws at least 1,000,000 buys (a 2.5 buyrate). WWE has not drawn that high a buyrate for WrestleMania since 1991. Keep in mind that when Wrestlemania III took place, Wrestlemania was the only WWE PPV, and they added more PPV events as the years went on.

WrestleMania III 1987

Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant

10.2 buyrate (4,080,000 buys)

WrestleMania IV 1988

Main Event: Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase

6.5 buyrate (2,600,000 buys)

WrestleMania V (1989)

Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage

5.9 buyrate (2,360,000 buys)

WrestleMania VI (1990)

Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior

3.8 buyrate (1,520,000 buys)

WrestleMania VII (1991)

Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter

2.8 buyrate (1,120,000 buys)

WrestleMania VIII (1992)

Main Event: Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair | Hulk Hogan vs. Sycho Sid

2.3 buyrate (920,000 buys)

WrestleMania IX (1993)

Main Event: Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna

2.0 buyrate (800,000 buys)

WrestleMania X (1994)

Main Event: Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna

1.68 buyrate (672,000 buys)

WrestleMania XI (1995)

Main Event: Shawn Michaels vs. Diesel | Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Lawrence Taylor

1.3 buyrate (520,000 buys)

WrestleMania XII (1996)

Main Event: Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels

1.2 buyrate (480,000 buys)

WrestleMania XIII (1997)

Main Event: Sycho Sid vs. The Undertaker | Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin

0.77 buyrate (308,000 buys)

WrestleMania XIV (1998)

Main Event: Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin

2.3 buyrate (920,000 buys)

WrestleMania XV (1999)

Main Event: Steve Austin vs. The Rock

2.32 buyrate (928,000 buys)

WrestleMania XVI (2000)

Main Event: The Rock vs. Triple H vs. The Big Show vs. Mick Foley

2.35 buyrate (940,000 buys)

WrestleMania XVII (2001)

Main Event: Steve Austin vs. The Rock

2.18 buyrate (872,000 buys)

WrestleMania XVIII (2002)

Main Event: The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan

1.60 buyrate (640,000 buys)

WrestleMania XIX (2003)

Main Event: Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar | Hulk Hogan vs. Vince McMahon | The Rock vs. Steve Austin

1.40 buyrate (560,000 buys)

vert neat...its weird how wrestling works...itll be huge once more....just needs something...the flow of wrasslin.

that dibiase/savage main event sounds worth rewatching.

So Blade's definitely going to become a wrestler? From the interviews Bret gave, he made it sound like he didn't want his kids going into it, though that may have just been disillusionment and resentment after Owen died.

Oh no....he's has a few commentarys mentioning Blades progress....he's been learning for awhile now....and Bret has mentioned that it is basically the only place to go and he has no problem with that fact at all....WWE is still the bigtime for wrestlers....he basically already has a job waiting for him tounge.gif

bing!

Bret Hart’s Calgary Sun column for March 13, 2004

Wrestlemania X. March 20, 1994. Madison Square Garden.

It was unquestionably one of the biggest nights of my career.

It was arguably the greatest opening match ever held at the greatest

wrestling hall of them all!

In the first of two co-main event matches on a huge show celebrating

the tenth anniversary of Wrestlemania my feud with my brother Owen was at it’s

red hot peak and we blended his high flying skills and my solid technical

style to build a match that would finally earn Owen the respect that he had for

so long deserved.

It seems ironic now that the only way that both Owen and I could get to

the top of the WWF when each of us first got there was to become nasty,

vicious, ruthless, villains.

What a lot of people don’t know about is how Owen and I figured out,

not one, but two completely different ways to reverse the sharpshooter! In

what was then considered to be one of the biggest upsets of all time, Owen pinned

me when I went for a victory roll! It might seem strange but nobody was

more proud of his victory over me than I was!

I opened the show and I closed the show.

In the other main event I squared off with five hundred pound Yokozuna

and regained the world heavyweight title!

The wrestlers piled out of the dressing room and hoisted me up on their

shoulders in what was a very genuine and spontaneous showing of respect that

I’ll never forget!

Wrestlemania XI was at the Hartford Civic Center on April 2, 1995

where I took on two time world champion Bob Backlund in a classic match up of

the old generation versus the new. Unfortunately it was a submission match

centered around one of us having to say ‘I quit’. When I finally hooked old

Bob in his own hold, the cross face chicken wing, he soon found out just how

painful it really was. It hurt so much that when guest referee, Roddy Piper,

stuck the microphone in his face and asked him if he’d had enough he couldn’t

remember to say ‘I quit’ so he blurted out, “yes!” With no disrespect to Bob,

this was probably my least memorable Wrestlemania match, but only because it was

a poor concept to start with.

I redeemed myself the following year at Wrestlemania XII in the

infamous iron man match with Shawn Michaels.

I’ve always felt that this was the toughest match I ever had.

That year Shawn took the winter off to train solely for our one hour

marathon match while I was being jackknifed and pancaked all winter in short but

physical matches with the biggest behemoths in the WWF at that time -Diesel,

Undertaker, Psycho Sid and Yoko! This, along with a grueling tour of India

only weeks before Wrestlemania XII, made it extremely difficult for me to build

my stamina for a one hour pay per view main event match! Luckily for me, I

could see that I was being set up, with the full intention being that Shawn

would scrape me off the mat so that Vince and Jim Ross could describe in their

commentary how Shawn, who was a few years younger than me, had just taken over

for the new generation. Instead, I trained like an absolute lunatic every

day, on my own time, and I think if you watch that match back you’ll come to

find that, more often than not, it was The Hitman scraping The Heartbreak Kid up

off the mat! To both our credit, I think the iron man match at Wrestlemania

XII still sets the standard for hour long matches, which is no doubt why

the WWE wrestlers themselves just voted it the greatest Wrestlemania match of

all time!

The following year I fully expected to have my planned rematch with

the still reigning champion, Shawn Michaels, but rather than lose to me he came

up with another of many phony injuries and forfeited the title so that he

could, as Shawn tearfully put it during an in ring interview, go home to find

his smile. So, plans were changed and I was hastily matched up with Stone Cold

Steve Austin, who was just beginning to make a name for himself. I’ve always

felt this match opened the door for Stone Cold, who told me, just a few

months ago, that it was his all time favorite match! It’s no surprise that in

two weighty polls conducted by the most respected news chronicle of the pro

wrestling business, The Wrestling Observer, one for fans and the other for

wrestlers, promoters and others in the business, the Wrestlemania XIII match

between The Hitman and Stone Cold was voted the number one Wrestlemania match of

all time! I’m flattered and I’m happy to agree that, in my opinion, that

knock down drag was not only my best Wrestlemania match but also the single

greatest Wrestlemania match ever!

And ... as for the massive rumor that I’ll be appearing at

Wrestlemania XX .... I want to wish Chris Benoit all the luck in the world ... and

to all the boys, have the time of your lives!

I’ll be watching ... but I won’t be there. Let’s just leave it at

that ... for now.

the last sentence of that totally freaks me out.

Leave it at that....for now.

That is giving me goosebumps. He's publicly stating that its a great possibility that he could be returning. Not at WMXX but....at one point!

Hyping up Mania with Wrestling movies is great, I cant wait for Mania to start in T Minus 7 hours 35 minutes. w00t!

The Taker thing is what Im mostly anticipating, I'll admit that as WWE has put so much hype into the match and made it so unbelievably awesome.

7 hours and 34 minutes until Wrestlemania XX...

1) Kev, we get WMXX at the same time as you, the beginning is synchronised all across the world. It's live there, and it's live here. No worries there.

2) Joey, it starts at midnight here, not 1am this time. Can't have you missing the first hour!

Actually, three things.

3) Omfg Bret!

But Im pissed now. All of the sites are stating that Goldberg is now likely to stay in WWE because of his friendship with Austin. I hate Goldberg, burn in hell you stupid mule kicking bastard. Bring back Lesnar. As the more and more they talk about it the more I think Lesnar is leaving.

Lesnar and Goldberg are crybabies. They both wanna be the superstars who tear through everybody. For instance, Undertaker is supposed to feud with Lesnar after WMXX. Lesnar doesn't want to get his ass kicked by Taker because he doesn't want to lose. If I was being payed that kind of money, I'd let Taker whoop my ass.

And we have Goldberg...who sucks. Same moves every match, but still seems to please the crowd. He wants to be the monster that he was in WCW. I guess he's forgetting that there are WAY better superstars in the WWE than him. He got the belt once, and that's what he deserves. To bad he lost it though to Triple H, because he *cough*married stephanie*cough*.

I say let them both leave. Those whining bastards were too predictable anyway.

You sir, are an idiot.

You believe everything you read about Lesnar being pissed because he has to job to Taker? Lesnar never got heat because he didnt want to job. He never refused to job to anyone...at all. So why are you believing everything you read.

And Im sick of people banging Triple H saying that he only got the title so many times because he married stephanie, hes a great wrestler and he deserved the title as many times as he got it. Sure it gets a little boring to see the same champion all the time, but it brings back the old times of having long reigns. So think about what you're going to say, as thats all bullsh*t. Triple H deserves the title, not because he married Steph.

But he's lucky to have steph, I'd say, I'd bang her any chance I get.

That isnt true, and you have no proof that it is, besides maybe a gay wrestling headline.

Oldberg should have never one, and HHH won it from him because he is a good wrestler and they need a heel to drop the title to benoit either tonight or at the next ppv....that HHH/Steph garbage is so old, it doesnt make any difference now and im tired of hearing about it.

You seem to be the type that instantly belives all rumors, not the way to go dude.

Well, i just got done reading a quote in today's paper from Lesnar's agent even saying he's quitting. So i'm pretty sure the hoax is done for and it's for real. Lesnar was going to try to play football in the first place. I think he just went straight to wrestling to get some cash flow.

I have no clue how many times....my guess for wwf tag titles is gonna be...say...6 time wwf champions...thats my guess but i really dont recall.

but about them...Hawk passed away unfortunatly....sometime last year....they were definatly a tag team for the ages...not my fav but for sure to others.

Dude, that's so f*cking weak, those guys were the f*cking sh*t. Animal was for sure the better of the two. How did Hawk pass away?

holy motherf*cking sh*t....

All of the fans knew Lesnar sold out and that match between him and Goldberg sucked ass. No cheers, its was silent as hell. Austin was stunned in amazement because the match had no heat. Then after the match and before the match they start singing na na na na, hey hey hey, good bye. By the end, Lesnar gave everyone the finger which to me, looked totally truthful.

We've seen the end of Lesnar. bored.gif Horrible match, worst of the night.

On a lighter note, the Taker vs Kane match is next, but im not as excited as i was before thanks to the huge Lesnar vs Goldberg match which the crowd hated and it was just boring and unbelievable....Goldberg wins and no one cares.

Greatest wrestle mania of all time. Greatest PPV of all time. Hands down. Between the great matches, great endings, and above all great fans. The best crowd i think ive ever seen. They really appreciated what was going on and really really stood out to me during the Lesnar/Goldberg match. Now like you said Kevin....the finger looked truthful. I think by the end of the match both of them had enough. They were booing both guys and chanting at brock. Really great and well deserved. Brock flipped off the crowd and yah that looked for real. Goldberg did the same when he was on the ropes at the end. What was the deal with the Hogan chant and everyone looking up? I thought Hogan had entered the building. I thought the turn with Trish was fantastic. I was hoping to see Jerhico finally close the deal with trish and when i first saw it i was lik WTF!! but then i was like...eh....thats pretty tight. The Undertaker entrence was exstatic. When Paul Bearer came out....omg. I like the new look also. A combo of old school deadman and the bad ass. All the matches were spectacular i have 0 critiques. I think the cherry on the ice cream was watching Eddie and Chris at the end....in tears....celebrating. That was definitly true emotion right there and it really moved me. Those two deserve it and i hope its not short lived. I think to sum up the night in one word it would be truth. Thats all i can see. It was pure, exciting, perfect,....and true. What an unbelievable night.

I was totally let down.

What can i say, great place to have it, but It just wasnt that great..

Cena/Big Show- Obvious what was gonna happen, pretty good starting match, got all of the opening heat.

Tag Title Matches were dull

Jericho/Christian was pretty good

Cruiserwieght thingy was a letdown...but a decent match...totally sh*tty ending.

Evening Gown, yeah great whatever, next.

RocknSock got pwned by Orton...good match, better finish.

Goldberg/Lesnar was just....i dunno...so wierd.....im really not sure how its gonna work..i guess they are both gone, as the crowd was on both of them....and it still generated HUGE heat...just for the wrong reasons....totally weak though...i still dont know what to think of it..sh*ttier than Lesnar had to job, its amazing that he had to job so easily to that bum....i dont hate lesnar in the slightest....im just baffled....dont really know what to think...that was let down #1

Let down #2....Taker..

I dont know how anybody could be pleased after that....Even MSG was choaked...even at points to the point of booing...sh*ttiest Undertaker garb ever...what the f*ck was up with Indiana Jones......i dont even see it as a mix....I see it as a huge lack of preperation for something everyone wanted to see....you could tell they would have been twice as happy to see a little work put into it...Not Badass with a hat and trenchcoat...wheres the gloves, the tie, the vest, the white and black makeup, the f*ckING POWER OF THE URN!! (in which Paul Bearer just shrugged against the mat like nothing looking bored as hell)....in the ring...he was still badass...did nothing really to expemplify the stalking taker of old....so sh*tty imo and everyone else that was watching at the house.

I like Taker....i was baffled by how little work went into it...it could have been moment of the night..

Angle/Guerreo was awesome of course....best finish of the night next to one..

Benoit/HHH/Michaels takes the cake of course, all due to the fans, and damn good wrestling fans they were in MSG......The ending of this was what made sorta saved mania to my freinds....to me i still thought it was good, but at the same time a huge letdown.

Definatly not the best to me, at all.

I can say im happy to see Benoit and Guerrero holding the belts.

but all in all, Boo....and Boo Mania 21 being in the Staples Center that holds like 20, 000 people...f*ck.

It was pure, exciting, perfect,....and true.

Explain that to me...because i only found two or three matches to be anything like that.

Highlight of Mania: HHH's new white boots.....good job man!

Some matches were rushed. Jericho/Christian was good, I wonder how that'll play out now that Trish is a heel, and Rock/Foley/Evo was good, though I was kinda surprised at the end. Surprised Goldberg went over Lesnar too, but at least he got stunned. That made sense though. Main events saved the card. Still, there should have been an IC match. Orton should've dropped it to someone before Mania, after XIX didn't have the title, it could've given the fans something to look forward to.

Taker at least should've shaved his beard. He looked like some sort of cross between the Deadman and the American Badass.

Are you sure XXI will be in the Staples Center? They said LA, but maybe they meant the Coliseum. That'd be so awesome, it holds 100,000 fans. It could work, as long as there are no "bomb threats". tounge.gif Still, what makes LA so special? They hosted II and VII, why not up here in San Francisco? Wrestlemania at Pac Bell Park. That would pwn all.

To me he was waaaayyy too 'badass'....id say about 90-10 in favor of Badass....totally dissapointing....ive been waiting forever to see his oldschool boots and gloves sad.gif

and Nope. Staples Center...woo hoo..

As for Lesnar I guess its just a matter of when he comes back...its almost inevitable....but damn that would give me a whole new reason to watch that damned football that i never watch...meh...nah.

Benoit is the man, thats all i can say...thank god they were in a place where Shawn Michaels couldnt steal Benoits heat....HHH was the man in that match too....they all made that match the best.

So Backlash....Benoit vs ?

HHH? Michaels? Mystery third person?...i dunno, Raw will tell.

Reports speculated HHH vs. Benoit for Backlash, but then again, they said that HHH would retain tonight and then Benoit would win next month, so it could always change.

Those three stole the show, though the other main event wasn't too shabby either. Match-wise, the only real dud was the evening gown match. Poor Molly, she's gotta be bald. Would've been nice to have Brutus Beefcake do the honors, seeing as how fans love nostalgia in milestone cards, but he's apparently in rehab after causing an anthrax scare with his bag o' coke at the toll booth he now works at, so whatcha gonna do? Also the tag matches would've been way better had they been elimination rather than first pin or submission.

Staples Center, meh. Between 1/3 of Mania II, Mania VII, and 2 Manias at the Anaheim Arrowhead Pond, SoCalers get all the breaks. I'm telling ya, Pac Bell. Beautiful park to begin with (though I'm more of an A's than Giants fan), fountain pyro out in right field, San Francisco skyline, outdoor atmosphere for that whole day-to-night effect that's so damn awesome. What more could you ask for?

Well as always i dont seem to agree with menace but im not in anyways a wrestling expert, I just enjoy watching it, I dont know the ins and outs etc.

Like Menace said, The Cena V show match was pretty straight foward, we knew what was going to happen!!

Everyones gone against me, my favorite match was the lesner V Goldberg match, I just thought it was good entertainment and I love Stone Cold and to see them both get a stunner was pretty cool, The fans really attacked Brock, that was just wierd, I dont think anyone knew what to do, but alas the last we will see of Lesner for a while but what about Goldberg?

The Angle match was awesome, high flying well planned match, I really cant understand how these guys can walk out of the ring sometimes, some of those slams must hurt like hell!

Taker V Kane was pretty good for me, I remember Taker when he really was like that all those years ago, what about the state of Paul Bearer? he looked terrible!! The match was pretty ok and some of the old stuff was good but we all knew what was going to happen, Taker laid out, Kane thinking hes won, Taker gets up in the old style and wins!

The HHH V SM V Benoit was great!! Was the best matcg by far! And the only match that I couldnt say who would win, I was convinced HHH would walk away with the belt as usual because he writes it in himself etc, I thought when Benoit was suplexed on the tables that was him out and HHH would take a few more hits then win but how wrong was I!! Its about time Benoit had a belt, he really is a good wrestler and deserves it!

It will be HHH challenging him next due to the fact HHH owns the belt and will let someone else have it for a while but he will get it back soon.

Over all I enjoyed it, The main reason for my favorite match (Lesner V Goldberg) was just because of the crowd and the reactions, Im sure when Austin smiled at the start of the match he was really smiling because he didnt know what the hell was going on! The 2 stunners brought the crowd to life though! Stone Cold rules in my book!

It sucked. I had a feeling it would. They overhyped it and it just didnt live up to what they said it would be. It feels like Wrestlemania XIV, so much hype, such a crap show.

Undertaker......he comes out, Im all damn excited. I see a trenchcoat and hat. Im still excited, and then I see what he's wearing under it....wtf. He is just the biker, maybe a dead biker but hes still a biker. I really hope that in time he'll change his look and become full fledge deadman.

The Trish thing is great. She's a slut now, and the Christain and Jericho feud is only going to get bigger.

I was surprised as hell when Benoit won, I knew he would when he locked in the crossface but thats just awesome. That was the match of the night, for sure. Triple H looked kickass too. But it was the best match of the night, finally the main event is actually the main event.

Kurt Angle against Eddie Guerrero was awesome. Tons of reversals and that Angle Slam into a tornado DDT was amazing. But it ended great, with Eddie telling Angle he'd cheat on Sunday if he had to, and he did it to win.

I really liked having Benoit and Guerrero at the end with the belts. The only remaining radicals, and they end it great.

I was surprised when it showed Shane's baby, Vince's Grandson on the starting video. Which totally kicked ass, that was an amazing intro.

The arena looked fantastic, everyone was ready, the storylines were great. But it seemed like it was wrestler's fault that it wasnt as good.

Take Goldberg and Lesnar for example. Totally sh*tty match, even with Lesnar in it. Lesnar wasnt wrestling at his best at all, and he knew it, he was too bummed out because the fans were treating him like sh*t on his last night. But Im not sure if its Goldberg's last night.

Did you see Austin's face though, when everyone started chanting you sold out. Wow, even JR told the rumor so everyone knew why. Biggest thing on XX was that few moments before the tie up. I was getting shivers up my spine because everyone knew. The match sucked too, horrible. Really boring too, the fans agreed. They chanted Goldberg Sucks, and they chanted Lesnar sucks. It was insane, a moment I wont forget for a while.

So overall, XX pretty much sucked ass.
