New Jack Arrested After Stabbing Opponent In Match

Date Added: October 14, 2004

Story By: Keith Wilcutt

First Coast News of Jacksonville, Florida is reporting the following:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A professional wrestler accused of stabbing his opponent 14 times with a prop during a match has been

arrested on a charge of aggravated battery.

Both wrestlers in the local Thunder Wrestling Federation event told police the prop was brought in as part of what in wrestling is

known as "hard-core," where it is not uncommon to see such props as knives, chains, bats and barbed wire.

The event's promoter said it wasn't supposed to be hard-core.

Police charged Jerome Young, 41, of Smyrna, Ga., who goes by the ring name of New Jack, with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was being held under $40,003 bond Tuesday in the Duval County Jail. A court appearance was set for Nov. 2.

Young told police he and his opponent, William Jason Lane, 37, of Fruit Cove, planned before the match to use a piece of metal to inflict some injury. Lane, treated and released at Shands

Jacksonville hospital, told officers he wasn't sure what happened but that "this is a dangerous sport," according to a police report.

Lane did not want to talk about the incident Tuesday, but a woman who said she was his girlfriend told The Florida Times-Union

that the event was supposed to be hard-core but not violent.

"It wasn't supposed to happen like that. But it did, and he got hurt pretty bad," said Meghan Hancock.

Promoter Maurice Williams said he doesn't promote hard-core.

"We wrestle. You won't see any barbed wire bats and chains."

Williams said wrestlers will be checked closely before future bouts.

"There will be nothing ever coming near Thunder again," he said.

Witnesses, including a Brunswick, Ga., police officer who videotaped the match, said it looked like it went past a routine wrestling match. Another witness said it looked like one wrestler

lost control when he thought the other was "intentionally trying to hurt him," according to the police report.

A fan scooped up the metal object, which has not been recovered by police.

Jail records Tuesday gave no information on Young's legal representation.

New Jack is horrible for that.

Does anyone recall the infamous video on the net of him giving some brand new indy guy a disgusting elbow drop with a prop...cuts the guy WIDE open...just f*cking gross...he got charged for that too....takes it a little too seriously.

Still though, nothing quite as funny as an oldschool ECW New Jack beating where the let the Ice Cube or whatever it was play on the speakers all the way thru the beatins tounge.gif

Yah dog....thats a great story..The Mass Transit incident......story go's like this...f*ck it.....im gonna copy and paste it..........when I find it.....im gonna leave out details so im gonna find the story.

Aiight I found it......

22 year old Erich Kulas passed away in his Craston, Rhode Island home last Tuesday. New wrestling fans may look at that, and shrug. At 22 years old he couldn't possibly have had anything to do with professional wrestling. But he did, and his short stint as a professional wrestler changed the scope of the sport forever.

November 23, 1996 in Revere, Massachusetts, ECW was running a house show. It had been promoted that ECW tag-team champions The Gangstas were to face D-Von Dudley and Axl Rotten. Unfortunately for ECW owner Paul Heyman, Rotten no showed the event, and he was left in a jam.

Meanwhile, a 17 year old kid by the name of Erich Kulas had dreams of being a star. Tipping the scales at 400 pounds, Kulas either had little, or no training to be a professional wrestler to that point - though he had watched it on television, so figured he could work a match with no problems.

Kulas with his father arrived to the ECW arena with a couple of midget wrestlers, and somehow worked their way backstage. Dressed in a bus driver's outfit, Kulas introduced himself to Paul Heyman, and offered his services as a professional wrestler. A piece of fake ID was enough proof that he was of age to be wrestling, and his story of being trained by Killer Kowalski was enough to sell Paul Heyman, who was in a bind. From this overweight kid in a bus driver's outfit, Heyman saw a man called Mass Transit, who would be a law enforcer type. It was perfect, since the current tag-team champions whole gimmick was telling authority to f*ck off.

Kulas discussed the match with Mustafa and New Jack, and confided in the both of them that he had no idea how to properly do a blade job, so bleeding was out of the question. New Jack told Kulas he could do it for him - and Kulas agreed.

So it came time for the match to begin, and New Jack had other plans. A hardcore match with all the typical weapons began, and took place. Finally, it came time for the blade job, and all hell broke loose.

New Jack produced a knife from his pocket, and drove a deep gash into Kulas' forehead. Immediately the 17 year old screamed out in pain - and it was clear something was wrong. New Jack had cut right through the muscle on the boy's forehead, and blood was literally squirting from his head all over the mat. New Jack began to smile, and continued to work over the kid - refusing to stop the match there.

From the front row, Kulas' father began screaming for mercy on his son. "He's only 17 years old!" were words that could be heard all the way to the ring. If the cut wasn't bad enough, it was abundantly clear by this point that the kid had no reason to be in the ring.

New Jack, a man with 4 justifiable homicides under his belt, finally finished the kid off with a top rope dive, culminating in a chair being driven into the head of Kulas. It was at this point the EMT's came to Kulas' rescue and spent over 10 minutes trying to stop the bleeding, which was squirting from open veins in his forehead. The ever concerned ECW crowd simply chanted "you fat f*ck" while Kulas was being treated.

Kulas survived, but received 50 stitches in his forehead. Meanwhile, nobody in the ECW locker room appeared to be the least bit concerned. The show continued, as if nothing had happened.

New Jack was questioned about the event afterwards, and he responded with the fact he didn't care if the kid was dead or alive. Paul Heyman simply passed off the event as another day in ECW. But it was abundantly clear to those who saw the tape that this was more than an Extreme act from a wrestling federation. This was assault with a deadly weapon, and it can be argued if there was an intent to kill as well.

The pay-per-view networks got wind of the event, and many backed off of ECW - not wanting to be part of any federation that could allow an underage kid to be butchered without any regard for his safety. They did manage to go through with their first pay-per-view, though several companies didn't pick it up based on this one event.

And Kulas? He didn't get a single phone call from ECW, or anyone on their roster to check up on his condition. The assault, coupled with the mental stress he was feeling was more than enough to take ECW to court.

Erich Kulas never got a dime from ECW. He changed the story of the events that transpired, and couldn't keep it straight. Kulas may have been able to walk off with a sizable chunk of money due to the events of that night. However Kulas, for whatever reason, was caught in a series of lies on the stand, and wound up losing anything that was coming his way.

ECW wound up receiving plenty of negative press, and wasn't able to go national until late 1999 - at which point the company was more or less dead in the water anyway. The incident with Kulas may or may not have kept them from getting a television deal until then. The first ECW pay-per-view was not carried in Canada, and they weren't picked up for a long time.

Erich Kulas is a name that will not go down in wrestling history - though in his one night was able to receive more press, and alter the face of the sport more than most trained athletes ever will

Maybe it's his dad? Speaking of Carlito, there's going to be a battle royale for the #1 contender for the U.S Championship. It looks like Eddie's out of the WWE championship hunt for now. I think the winner will either be RVD, Eddie, or Jindrak.

Hopefully someone good wins it. I want to see Carlito's wrestling ability. I got a little sense of it from the cool over-the-rope elbow drop he did last week but I want to see more. All I learned was that he could take a hell of a beating.

You get to see exactly that!

Carlito was great tonight, only downfall once again is that stupid voiceover in his awesome intro music. He had a great match with *Mystery Battle Royal Winner*

Main Event is coming up....excellent smackdown this week, helped alot by another huge Manchester Sellout.

@Pg - You talking about New Jack or Carlito?? i know Carlito was never ECW...although it would be neat...really toughens a guy up....thats one thing ive yet to see after two of his matches in WWE, his ability to get rough, take chair shots to the head ect.

Great Smackdown. Carlito is definitely a technician, yet he's a lightheavyweight and can risk doing some high spots. He takes back body drops better than anyone in the business, well, not better, but just as good as the best. He's got a nice armbar too, but I hope that's not his special. So far I've only see him win by cheating, which is fine for a heel...but come on, not on every match. I'd just like the voiceover to be at the start of his song, for the intro, then they keep playing that carribean music. Such a good heel theme, he rules.

He's only been in two matches rememeber? I wouldnt be surprised if he cheated to win his first 5 or 6 matches....but I do remember reading about his finisher...its some type of inverted, flipping legsweep/slam..

I have no idea what to make of it, ill wait till i see it.

I thought Smackdown was real good tonight....things just seem to better when the crowd is into it...that motivates the wrestlers to do better...the UK crowd beats our american crowds by 100%......

In other news.......This right here is my favorite belt of all time.I always looked for a replica of this belt but could never find one...highspots.com would have to custom make it.......thats a great site...anyway I cant believe I found this pic.....Taz created this belt in ECW......The World Heavyweight F*ck The World Championship Belt

Ahh back when Tazz was hardcoer, and around the same size as most tounge.gif Then he went to the 'big leagues'. Just not a big enough guy....always like him though. I think he should have kept wrestling, Im not a huge fan of his commentary whatsoever....he thrives too much on words he thinks are big like 'enigma'..

He and Sabu had some good times with that belt.

I like the Taker, tho I wish he would go back to full-fledged Dead Man instead of this Walker Texas Ranger look he has now. At least it's better than the biker, that didn't fit his personality at all.

He's probably got one more title run left in him, he can join the elite 5-time club with Rock, Hogan, Austin, Bret, and HHH.

Heidenreich sucks, this will be Taker's greatest challenge since Giant Gonzales. Greatest challenge as in making him look good, not as a threat to his life or win-loss record.

I think Germany lost a lot of fans once JBL did the Nazi salute. That wasn't exactly tasteful, but I think people overreacted on that. I'm half-Jewish, and I'm not offended at all.

I heard the Germans were the people whom cared the least about that incident.

About Taker...most of us have lost faith in him....the half ass deadman thing seems to have failed for the mostpart, and to boot the wwe is pairing him with people that can really match his style....his badass style that doesnt emulate deadman whatsoever..

Heidenriech still yet to wrestle a fullmatch since becoming legitimatly over......probably the most over heel on smackdown, and I think he is still playing it off awesome....he looked more disturbed this week than I ever remember Sid looking, he must be studying the tapes now tounge.gif

Im gonna route him over Taker just for the sake of him being a newer guy.....let Taker job to an up and coming heel.....he wrestles no worse than Taker did when he debuted.

And btw Taker whooped his ass in a 'off the camera' match after smackdown....I think they taped the Heidenreich segment at the end because smackdown apparently ended with the Heidenreich/Taker dark match...probably swapped it with Guerrero/Luther Gayns.
