Bret Hart speaks out on Ray Traylor/Bossman.

 

 

Not again. The wrestling fraternity is mourning the loss of another brother. Ray Traylor, aka Big Bossman, died of a massive heart attack Wednesday.

 

He was only 42. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters, eight and 11.

 

I've started to become numb to the sad and seemingly never-ending roll call of dead friends. The length of the list became alarming a long time ago.

 

Why are so many pro wrestlers of my era dying so young? And at a rate close to 10 times higher than football players of the same age.

 

Traylor's gimmick name became his calling. His friends called him Bossman. He was a big, husky kid out of Georgia, the epitome of all that's good about Southern rasslers. His good ol' boy accent was no put on and, despite being a 300-lb. brute that terrorized Hulk Hogan with a billy club, in real life Ray was a big, friendly southern boy. He was a charming, likeable shy man with a penchant for laughing and joking all the time.

 

He usually had a big grin on his face and it sounded natural the way he said, "gal dang it" a lot.

 

The first time I met Bossman was in the old Hart Foundation days. I'd tease him that with his beard, shades and matching flat top he was Anvil's younger, bigger brother.

 

Traylor got his start in wrestling in 1986 as Jim Cornette's bodyguard, Big Bubba Rogers. He submitted his resume to Vince McMahon, who noticed he'd been a real life prison guard in Marietta, Ga., The Bossman was born.

 

I could write about Bossman's epic battles with the like of Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage and Andre the Giant. Or the rare but great matches when Bossman teamed up with Akeem against the Hart Foundation. But I'd rather tell you about the real Ray Traylor, a good and decent family man who lived a clean life.

 

And he was a good wrestler. In the last part of Hogan's era, he drew serious money and was respected by his fellow wrestlers for being a team player and good ol' boy with a big heart.

 

How that heart could give out at such a young age scares me.

 

I used to enjoy looking forward to a time, perhaps at a Hall of Fame get-together or maybe even in my backyard, sitting around my firepit, when I could shoot the bull with Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith, Flyin' Brian Pillman, Mr. Perfect, Ravishing Rick Rude, Bossman, and even Miss Elizabeth. But the list of dead friends is yet another name longer.

 

I like it here. After all I've been through, I want to stay a while.

 

I took a long bike ride yesterday and thought about Bossman all day, pondering why he left us so early. Ray was especially close with Perfect and Rude and if heaven is indeed such a great place, I find solace in believing they will tell him why.

They confirmed we'll be voting on preselected options, at least for the main event. I'm guessing we'll have a choice between Orton, Benoit, Michaels, and maybe Benjamin. I guess Vince is afraid some of us may try to sabotage it and put Snitsky in the main event.

Snitsky sucks...not enough to judge his in ring skills, but his mic skills are bad enough to get him fired. Period. But I hope that we get to vote on every match, it'd be great to have a Shelton Benjamin vs. Chris Jericho in the IC title match.

I know you all love Heel Carmella. They tapped the into the money of Carmella. She has lots of supports but even more anti carmella-ers. I think the Carmella promo was great. Ive never been so excited watching WWE in a long time. Randall is kind...Flair promo was great....all the matches kick ass and Snitsky even though as much as I gave em a verbal raping last week Its good to see something new. Honestly. Im interested to see where they take the Snitsky guy. This whole Raw thing is just great.

No more signs of Hurricane and Rosey turning heel this week. There were rumors Hurricane was going to change his name because of all the hurricanes that were hitting Florida. I hope he keeps this gimmick even if he does turn heel. He was so cheesily funny as the heel superhero.

I dont see how Randall wont still get the title shot, but its interesting that he lost....that stuff with Flair was awesome.

It's impossible to sell of the tickets at a ticket booth in under a minute, its all done online when they go up. They really go quite fast too...

I think Jindrak, if given the right story and amount of tv time, could turn out to be a GREAT future heel....he has everything that it takes...hopefully it works out for him with Angle, smackdowns Uber-Heel.

You know how theres this egyptian wrestler who is supposidly making his debut soon as an Iraqi sympothiser (sp bad) he's gonna get made heat. I'd like to see them slap Carmella on his side and have her walk around in these skimpy Baath party type military suits and sh*t.

WWE seems to be reaching back to old gimmicks. JBL and Jordan as DiBiase and Virgil. Carlito Caribbean Cool as Razor Ramon/Savio Vega, Mark Jindrak as The Narcissist Lex Luger, Simon Dean as Bodydonna Skip. Now this Egyptian guy (Mohammed Hassan) is digging up the Iraqi sympathizer gimmick Sgt. Slaughter had during the first Gulf War. Ironically, it's been Slaughter who's been kicking his ass at the house shows.

Unfortunately Eugene will be stuck with this for the rest of his career. Nick Dinsmore (Eugene's real name), meanwhile holds the record for most times winning the OVW heavyweight title. We could get the creative juices flowing. Either he turns heel in the middle of a match and reveals that his "condition" was all a work, or he gets hit in the head and becomes a super genius. Maybe a running joke is, he switches back and forth between genius and retard every time he gets hit in the head hard enough. The only other thing I can think of is to put him under a mask and not acknowledge it's the same person (he was, after all, one of the Conquistadores along with Rob Conway at one point).

 

Heidenreich deserves to be sent to OVW, or TNA where he could feud with Monty Brown. Yes I'm aware of how much that would suck but at least it would be where nobody cares about it, and it's not taking up valuable TV time.

 

One other thing, could we *please* end this Cena/Booker feud? The US Title is in a bad enough position as it is with its ugly design, lack of (WWE) history, and no priority, we don't need the same two guys fighting over it for 6 months. I'm actually hoping RVD and Mysterio lose at No Mercy. It would be the third partner RVD has had in a little over a year, and since the first two turned heel on him, expect Rey to do the same.
