ZaqT 0
I tried to search for similar problems but came up empty... Every so often during gameplay the buildings, trees and basically all the other graphics except cars start to flicker. I suspect this is due to installed car mods (there are some really cool car models out there and the original one's just seem really boring after them). Has anybody else noticed this kind of problems? And more importantly, has anybody found a way to get around this problem and still keep new car models? The funny thing is that this only seems to happen when I'm on a mission. If I just drive around and have fun messing the city up, the flickering does not occure.

Wu Masta James 0
Answer these and I might be able to help: CPU/Processor: AMD XP+ 2000, P-4 2.2ghz, etc... Operating System: Windows XP, 98, etc... Video Card: Geforce 4 Ti-4200 etc... And, did you do anything to tweak you computer/video card: like use RivaTuner, etc...or overclocked it?

Havocwreaker 0
i got the same problem (p3 450mhz, 256mb ram, 64mb geforce 2), and my friend has the recommended requirements and he has the problem too.. i think it is because of installing cars... the makers probably set up the game files to search for the textures in a certain position in the gta3.img file.. if you move one file it shouldnt make any diference, but any more and the game will have to search for the textures and take more time.. gta3 never had the problem.. Wu Masta James 0
Okay Zap, you pretty much got the same stuff I do. Try this: Uninstall your video card completely & rivatuner. Then restart install the drivers again and try it out. Usuaslly this is caused by LOD Bios (Level of detail) option in RivaTuner. Sometimes setting it too high will make buildings flick. Try setting it lower first if you want. If not then try what I said first.
ZaqT 0
It seems that I'm not alone with this problem... Masta James : I will try what you suggested. I just have to give one more example about this graphics messing up because Havocwreaker suggested that installing multiple car models is the reason for this crap. (I know it's because of these car models) I try "tuning" my comp and graphics gard with different setups and load up vice city. I have noticed that quickest way to test the functionality or lack there of, is to go to sunshine auto shop and down to the garage to enter a race. After I choose a race and "pay the admition", the map on the wall dissapears along with garage doors and then everything is messed up good for a long time. As to Havocwreaker's idea on the problem, if he is right then why do the graphics get messed up eventhough there is no actual movement on the screen? Tommy is just looking at the map on the wall... no cars in sight. Well anyway... thanks for the input.
Natedogg. 1
That would suck because what if you had a heavily modded Game and you have to get rid of the crap to fix it that would suck.
ZaqT 0
Well... I did what was suggested and took it a bit further. I re-installed the whole windows XP system again as well as Vice City but to my dissapointment the problem is still occuring. It seems that I have depleted all my options as to what can be done about graphics flickering, or their not catching up or what ever... I don't care! this game is so great that eventhough my graphics get messed up sometimes it's still worth playing . But if anyone reaches somekind of solution, please post your remedy. Natedogg. 1
All I can Say is your Graphics card may have a problem if it's good otherwise you might need a new one because it doesn't work good with Vice City.
GTA3Freak-2001 22
i think it is because of installing cars... the makers probably set up the game files to search for the textures in a certain position in the gta3.img file.. if you move one file it shouldnt make any diference, but any more and the game will have to search for the textures and take more time.. gta3 never had the problem.. I don't have this problem, I can have like 10 different car models installed and I don't get any graphics flickering with a GeForce4 MX440 64Mb. So I doubt that is the culprit.
