I'm having some serious issues with GTA Vice City.

I got the game for PS2 and PC.

I was impressed with the PS2 graphics, but when I started up the PC version, only the intro sequence with Sonny and the gang talking acctualy had textures, when the game finished loading, almost none of the textures were there, not to mention the lawyers house was pink of all possible things..

After reading around here, I decided to try turning off the anti-aliasing and other such things, but that didn't work either, so then I changed the compatibility to Win98/Me (I'm running WinXP) but then the game doesn't start up at all..

And yeah, I've used the update as well to try and fix it.

 

My computer is an AMD Duron 1300Mhz, 512mb SDRAM, GeForce4 Ti 4200 64mb DDR, the rest of the specs I'm not gonna bother with as they can't really affect the graphics.

And yes, I'm using the latest drivers.

 

Anyone got a solution?

I should add that I'm running on a low-end system. A pII 450 with 300 mb of ram (with Geforce 4 MMX440). Still, the game runs in 800x600, maximum view distance without much problems. You would think that the prescripted sequences should work. It must be some sort of bug, right?

As for the Naraku guy, draw distance seems to affect pedestrians and cars, mainly, not buildings and scenery. I don't see much wrong with your screenies. Mebbe it's cause I'm not sober...   ;)

Hello, please could anyone solve my problems with Vice City?

 

What i have found is that the graphics are really jumpy. When the graphics jump, the radio also jumps. I have found that when i switch the radio off it helps but it doesnt solve the jumping graphics

 

The game also crashes and i have to restart my computer by pressing the restart button as ctrl alt + delete dont do nothing at all.

 

The graphics on VC is simply not a patch on GTA3, and i dont know why, Heres A Pic

 

Please help, i have already installed the patch and it hasnt helped.

 

Oh by the way my spec is geforce mx2 graphics card, + 1400 proccessor

You experience a lockup with the sound still playing every now and then.

 

damn, i got excited when i read that... hoping it would help me. every now and then (especially when i'm driving/walking around the city, the game freezes for 3-7 secs. basically, the sounds either repeats (bla-bla-bla-bla... etc.), or keeps on playing in the background (in this case it unfreezes much sooner... ~ 3 secs). it's VERY annoying, but i'm guessing that it's my unfragmented-for-years hard drive to blame. i tried using DisKeeper to defragment it, but it took more than 5 hours, so i had to cancel it... =( i have to reformat soon.

 

ps. oh yeah, i don't have any mp3's in my mp3 folder, which is why that solution didn't help.

 

ps2. does any1 know what dynamic accoustic modeling do? i can't really tell any difference. thanks.

Hey guys I got weird color edges at some trees in Vice City and plants as well i notice it alot when the sun shines trough trees   will the patch fix that problem and/or is there a other solution for that? My system specs are:

amd athlon 2000 XP

Geforce 4 ti 4200 128 MB Ram

512 MB System ram

Windows XP

 

I got the latest drivers for my card and latest DirectX as well.

I'm having sort of the same problem..  On trees leaves and fences, etc.--things that have "transparant" edges, the transparency makes objects (people, cars, other leaves) dissappear.  It's wierd, so I've included a couple of screen shots:

It's pretty annoying.

all drivers are updated, I even tried the VC 1.1 patch.  Anyone else having this wierd occurance?

Yeh, the disappearing happens for me too. It's annoying but not as annoying as something else I've found.

 

I'll be running along, I see a car coming down the street ahead of me, I turn around (perhaps to fire or check my six) and when I turn back half a second later, the car is gone. Sometimes it just has to disappeard off the screen for a split second and it's gone when I look back. This is REALLY annoying when running from police, because often you need a car to get away, and they keep disappearing.  :rampage:

I have the same problem.  I didn't notice it before.. but recently it's been a real big problem.  It does it with vehicles, and even people.  Everything from looking to the sides and back while driving, to turning around walking or driving, vehicles (and peds) just dissappear.

 

It was extremely annoying during the Sunshine auto missions, cause I would see the car I'm looking for drive past and when I turned around (and the car should be literally within 10 feet from me) it would be gone.

 

Anyone else having this problem, it really, really distracts from the "real" feeling of the game.

Regarding the sound issue, and VC's 'pickiness' toward mp3 filenames, what's the best way to rename the mp3 files to counter this?

 

Note: Sound issue is that in which video crashes, but sound plays fine.

I'm having the same problem as mehguy.  No sound effects.  Johnny you said you had a SB Live! Value right?  The game plays fine for you?  It doesn't for me.  :nervous:  

 

I have DX 9.0a, 1.7 ghz Pentium, latest drivers and all that.

 

I CAN run the game with the rad tools option selected but I get such horrible performance it's not even funny.  It shouldn't be this way.. should it?  I've emailed tech support but nothing responded yet.  I'd call them but I work during their office hours so I don't know how I'm going to.

hey guys, i don't necessarily have a problem, it's more of a question. i am using my ps2 gamepad --> ps2/pc adapter with full analog support. when i run vice city, even though i can use the analog stick, it isn't *true analog*... any way to fix it?

 

*also* is anyone else having heat issues with this game? my computer goes from 44 (celcius) to 64 when playing, while no other games do this at all...

Has anyone got more information on the 5.1 sound bug?  Every time I run Vice City in 6.1 or 5.1 it drops my actual speaker settings back to 2.1. Im using and Audigy 2 on windows XP. I did get in working breifly in 6.1 sound but I dont know what I did and then it crashed anyway.  This is spoiling a superb game for me.  I've read posts with other people having the same problem so I know its not just me.  Well, fingers crossed that they release a patch for this because Im going to hang on and not play the game for a bit because I want it to be 100%.  And using software sound wont do because I didnt buy the sound card just to have a nice cardboard box in the cupboard.  

 

Also, why dont they just let us set the frame limiter instead of fixing it at 30 fps?

Really there isnt much u can do to solve that, if u have ever played half-life or counter-strike and played around with its files (the sprites) the edges can go like that.

 

what they do is draw a tree or sumthing onto a colour that u would not see in the game like a very bright lime green, so they make that lime green transparent and so u just see the tree.

 

The edges of the trees and stuff are slightly blurred so they dont look sharp and jaggedy. But on some colours u can see the transparent colour and there isnt much u can do about it, this is a very minor bug anyway. I wouldnt sweat about it :)

I have some weird glitches that don't really affect gameplay, except one of them. Like when I first started playing, there would be the large passenger planes driving along the roads, then they would all of a sudden take off straight up, then fly zig zaggy. It's pretty amusing and doesn't affect gameplay. Too bad I can't get a replay of it saved because it  doesn't show up in the replay. Some other glitches include cars driving straight through hills in the road and they make a splash sound and water splashes into the camera. The one glitch that affects gameplay is that Colonel Cortez's ship is underwater! So when I get to Cortez's final mission where I have to escort him out of the city, he always dies because the ship is underwater, so this makes it impossible for me to complete the mission. I have some screencaps if you would like to have a look....

in the second picture you can see the splash of the boat but no boat in sight... It's kind of annoying and I really don't want to start the game over again because of a little thing like this.

sorry to hear about all you guys' problems. Aside from minor alpha blending problems with trees and bushes and occasional loss of certain sound effects, it's only crashed once for me (knocking on wood).

 

However, i think i've found a bug that hasn't appeared in this thread yet, and i'd like to know if it's something that will require a patch to fix or not.

 

There's a rampage/kill frenzy... it's on the little cauldesac on the little island at the southern end of Vice Point (the same island with the building that you blow up with the RC heli). Whenever i try this Rampage, it doesn't count aany gang kills. It stays at 35 and therefore will never let me complete it.

 

Has anyone else run into this problem? or if you could check and see? Thanks.

Yes, I ran into that problem, then I got into a car and started to shoot them by drive by, then it worked, but then I realizes the frenzy mission said "drive by" it was just too hard to read on my monitor

HELP!

 

Yesterday I was playing Vice City, and it all worked fine .. It didn't crash or anything and I shut down the game and my computer.

 

Today, I tried running the game again, but now it just won't start! When I run the executable, the screen just flashes, and I can see the gta-vc.exe file appearing in the task list, and disappearing again just after .. I haven't installed any new hardware or software since last run, and I've even tried reinstalling the game, but it still won't run .. At last I tried updating the game with the 1.1 patch, but still nothing.

 

Can anybody help me with this?

Ok, I found out that GTA Vice City in some way had corrupted my settings file, which in winXP is located in "C:\Documents And Settings\Your XP User Name\My Documents\GTA Vice City User Files\" and is called "gta_vc.set". I deleted this file and Vice City worked fine afterwards. I just had to setup graphics and controls again, but that's no biggie.

 

You might wanna add this to the list, cause the same thing occured with one of my friends' Vice City, too..

well, for all those of you experiencing the "sudden freeze" bug in which the music keeps playing but the video stops (freeze frame) try this :

 

- Change your audio config in VC to Headphones

- Change the Audio properties of the SB Live to Headphones too

- Play with your headphones (optional, but makes sense...)

 

I know it sounds too simple to be true but it worked for me. Haven't had a crash since last night and I have been playing for nearly 5 hours (yeah, I know, I should get a life...)

 

But anyway, it seems like the 5.1 decoding is screwed up and it messes up with XP.

to get rid of the unique stunt camera bug, I just press F1, F2, F3 randomly, sometimes that does help.  If not, I alt+tab out of the game, and alt+tab back in and that usually works.   just added this in case    :)

This game ran pretty smoothly the first week I've had it, but I've encountered some really annoying bugs since then.  I've had the unique jump camera bug bite me a couple of times, but that's the only one I've seen posted here.  I've got three others that are annoying the hell out of me.

 

1. Sometimes the game will slow to a crawl during a non-interactive cutscene that you can't skip.  The worst was when it happened during the end credits.  It took more than half an hour to reach the end.

 

2. Saves after completing the Trojan Voodoo mission are always corrupt.  Computer freezes when I try to load, and I'm forced to reboot.

 

3. In The Shootist mission after the cutscene where I speak to Phil, the shooting range minigame almost never loads.  Sometimes it'll load if I wait five minutes or so for it, but usually the game just stops responding completely after the cutscene fades to black.  This one's really pissing me off because it's a tough enough mission when it works properly.

 

If anyone has fixes for any of these bugs, I'd really appreciate hearing them.

I've got a fix for the problem I was having with the game locking up with the audio still playing when I'd be on a mission. It turns out that a mod I implemented was the culprit. This mod changed the car names to their real-world names (i.e., Corvette, etc). When I uninstalled and then reinstalled the game, the car names reverted to their default names, and the problem went away.

 

There must be something in the way the mod was done that my PC didn't like. I was able to play the sub-missions (taxi, Rages, etc), but it would lock up every time I'd try a "real" mission (like something for Cortez). But, with the default settings, my PC is happy, and I can play the missions again.  :D  And, by the way, I'm using the MP3 directory without any issue.

The last mission i did was the cuban mission canon fodder.  I saved at the ice cream factory i think.  When i go to load it it loads all the way to the please wait screen.  That is when instead of the game starting i hear a windows beep.  I can do nothing because im in the game but it's frozen.  I press enter and over the game an illegal opperaion in VC.exe comes up.  I have to close the game and i can't load it.  I have been problem free until that happened.
