Unplugging or disabling your joystick/gamepad will make the player stop spinning.

Well you heard wrong.

To "invisi-target" a clerk you have to push either "[" or "]" you wont see the target but he'll drop cash and set off the alarm.

youre wrong.  i walked into the hardware store to buy a hammer with my pistol out and automaticly robbed the place.  this game was not ready to be released. sound bugs, texture dont load quick enough, inadequate controls(you cant lean foward on the bikes, you stand all the way up.), the cops are insanely tough( i had two stars and they were swarming all over me)

Problem #6:

The player continually spins and spins and will not stop.

Solution: None as of yet.

This happens if you gamepad or joystick has a slider/throttle. Just set the slider to the center position and you'll stop spinning.

These days a game isnt "really" finished until 3 patches.  Don't argue you know it's true.

the UNHANDLED EXCEPTION error is a long time bug related to the 'MILES2D/3D" Sound code thats used in GTA3 (also hitman2, tribes2 and any other game where the developers thought it would be slick to just plug in 3rd party sound code instead of writing their own custom)

unfortunately the bug occurs when users run the sound code in EAX (when using Creative drivers that have OpenAL acceleration which was released after the MILES2D code was released - but MILES never got patched.), so simply change it to DirectSound mode or software mode and you will no longer see the bug or get the crash.

DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS THAN bug can also be attributed to this as well.  it sucks and im glad to say that no one uses the MILES code anymore. it had its time and will not be back.

Yet another problem.  I am surprised this game has more bugs to start out with than gta3 did, but gta3 was just slow.  anyways, I keep getting the error when I complete missions, but only sometimes.  It will say mission complete, and then play the sond, and then give me an unhandled exception.  I am kind of upset about this, because this happened in the ps2 version too, right after you aquire the mansion it freezes after the mission complete thing.  wtf?

Hey guys. I got this game this morning and have been looking forward to playing it but something seems to be wrong. The game plays ok for a little while but before long, things start to go crazy. Screwed up textures, like they are all distorted and spiking out and walls and cars are stretching and deforming. I saw the screen shot under problem 4, but what I experience seems worse that that. The whole screen gets distorted and pedestrians are like walking crashes. I did everything that has been suggested. I screwed about with the AA, tried putting the frame limiter on and off but even with it turned off everything gets screw up after a while. Here are my PCs specs if that will help

Win XP + service packs

AMD XP 3000+

1024 MB Ram

Nforce Audio

Geforce FX 5800 with 44.03 drivers.

Any one know what might be going on here?

It’s really getting on my nerves that I cant play this awesome game for more than 5 minuets with out having to restart Vice City.

Solution: In your video card properties under Antialiasing turn the option to either Off completely or 2x AA..the problem is with having AA set to "Application Controlled". (to access this option right-click desktop select properties, click on the display settings tab, select advanced, click on your video card name tab, then click on "performance and settings" in the box to the left).

That's what it sez at the help post

Yes, I know. As I said, I have tried that and still the graphics get messed up. I’m just driving along then thing start to go wild. Setting up the AA does not seem to help nor does the frame rate limiter.

Problem #6

Never had the problem but here are my suggestions

- Unplug anygame pads you have hooked up to your pc.

- Calibrate your joystick when the game starts by doing several rotations. Specially those with dual analog sticks

Let me know if that solved your problems

That might be hard for me to do as I have no joy pads or whatever. I’m using a mouse and keyboard.

Or are you not talking to me?

i see u have an FX card and Vice City hates it.

use back 43.45 drivers and in your driver setting, switch the Intellisample setting to 'application'

the 43.45 don't perform as fast as the 44.03 drivers, but it makes Vice City playable.

i hope rockstar comes out with a solution for this. I dun wanna play vice city wif sh*tty performance on the 43.45 drivers.. write 'em an email

To all of you saying that this game is buggier than GTA3 and it should not have been shipped out so soon...

You are wrong.  Very, very few people are having problems.  The main problem was the textures not loading in time but that has been fixed for the majority.  Usually, the problem is not with the game but it is with your computers because, even though you all will get mad and deny it, some of you have screwed up your computers in the past and don't know how to re-format so your computer stays screwed up and keeps getting worse.  And how can you say it shipped too soon?  The PS2 version was released eight months ago!  Vice City runs smoother than GTA3!  What was the last great-looking game that ran better than its preceding game of the same type?

As long as you have done the following everything should be fine:

1. make sure that your drivers are clean-installed with no residue from past drivers

2. making sure that there is not excess dust inside your computer

3. making sure all pci/agp/isa cards are all the way in the slot

4. the fact that your computer is not overheating and you have adequate cooling

5. you defragment every two or three days with a retail defragmenter (Diskeeper)

6. you have a good video card (Geforce 2 and up, ATI 7000 series and up)

7. you don't have useless crap on sitting on your hard drive such as a program you have not used in years or old downloaded files you don't need

8. making sure that your registry has been cleaned out with regcleaner

9. making sure that you get a basic diagnosis at pcpitstop.com

10. making sure that you have a good version of Windows (not 3.1, not 95, not 98, not 98se, definitely not ME) such as 2000/XP with updates from windowsupdate.com

11. you have properly tweaked your system

12. making sure that you know what you are talking about...and you haven't screwed up your computer and won't admit it

Vice City is buggy....every game is buggy....but Vice City is almost perfect.  More than 99% of Vice City works perfectly.

Quit complaining...just tell us your problems and we will fix them...thats fine....just no complaining.

I've encoutered a bug that makes it almost impossible to aim... I can olny change X axis mouse sensivity (or was it the y-axis), the other one wont change. So if I move the mouse up and down it goes in hyper-speed, and sideways it goes like it should. Very, very irritating =).

I have been having a problem where the video will stop, but the audio keeps playing, and I have to restart my comp the wrong way.

I have the same problem. But there is a point that the game will always freeze. After you start the game, the cutscene goes on, until the chopper lands, and them Tommy walks to the drug dealer, then the masked guys are shown getting ready to attack Tommy. At this point, the game ALWAYS freeze and the voices goes on for some time, then it lock-up the computer. It is no video card driver (I've Catalyst 3.2, many friends have the same driver running ok), DirectX (9.0a), Service Pack (XP SP2) issue. It is not overheating, I play MAFIA for hours. I play MOH for hours...  :/

My computer specs: Athlon XP 1900+, ECS K7S5A PRO (Bios updated, chipset is VIA 735), Radeon 9500 PRO, 512 MB DDR 266, Sound Blaster Live! MP3....

And about the hooker talking to you while you drive, I've no problem with that. Are you sure that your audio settings is not more than 2 speakers when you have 2 (sub doesn't count), or that you have other option than Creative Lives EAX selected? Make sure that you have the latest drivers as well. The last thing, make sure that in Windows, your speaker configuration is the same as your real speaker configuration.

I have the same problem.  I can only play for 20 minute spurts.

It does always stop when the guys are stealing the money at the bigining of the game too.  I allready emailed tech support at take two, and I'll post what they say when they write back (which will more than likely be forever).

I have a 9500 pro, and I noticed you do too.  The other guy said he has a 9700 pro which is quite a bit like the 9500.  I think I smell a patch.  I just hope it comes out soon.

For those of you who have the problem with the game freezing, but the sound still plays, I just got the new catalyst drivers, and it seems to have fixed it for me.  I at least watched the first scene where it ALWAYS froze, and for the first time it played right through.  Only time will tell, because the problem seems to be spuratic (sp?).

Get the drivers here ---> http://www.ati.com/support....xt=Next

Okay then, I hope you can help me. I have checked all your points and everything is okay, except for the operating system, which is Win98SE. Don't tell me it's this, there are many users that also use it and GTAVC plays like a dream. I won't get mad, but do know my pc is okay, and yes I do know what I'm talking about. I just formatted and reinstalled everything a month or two ago, so all is very tidy. I defrag and rebuild my register every week. I play heavy games like UT2K3, Postal 2, NOLF2 and the likes. Everything runs smooth and good, NOTHING gives me any problems, no too low performance, no lockups, no windows errors, no nothing. I have 98% resources available at startup and keep my system clean to the max. I use RegClean and Easycleaner very often, again, I want to keep everything clean.

GTAIII runs like an angel on my system, very smooth, very fast loading, minimal load-ins, you get it, it runs perfectly. With GTAVC, this is another story. The game locks up a lot, and I mean a lot, randomly. I never played longer than 40 minutes without the game locking up or rebooting my pc. I reinstalled the game twice and tested everything but nothing works. I've tried all the logical graphical settings, all my AGP BIOS settings, tried to disable on-board sound, tried new drivers for video/audio, old drivers, downclocking, the list goes on and on. NOTHING has fixed the problem on my pc with this game. I tested the CD's on a different system (PIII 1000 MHz, 256 MB PC100 RAM, GeForce 3 Ti 200, Win98SE), no errors at all, it runs fine, just a little choppy now and then and believe me, that system is a real mess, like 6 error-messages at startup alone just because nothing got uninstalled properly. Now, can you help me?

Specs:

Soltek SL-75KAV mainboard using AC '97 on-board sound

AMD Athlon XP 2200+

512 MB PC133

GeForce 4 Ti 4800 SE 128 MB using Detonator v44.03

Win98SE

DirectX v9.0a

I just got the Sunshine autoplace, and I put a sentenial in one of the garages at the bottom. A while later I was driving by and it said "your garage has no room for more cars"

then when I got out and tried to walk into it, the game crashed and gives me an "Unhandled Exception" error, every time I try to enter the garage on foot, just when it starts opening...
