Jordan 20
This is deemed the official bug list for Vice City for PC. This is a definite sticky to avoid having 1000 posts on "it crashes" or "my character was eaten alive by a pack of ravenous wolves." So, tell us your bugs and list your solutions. MAJOR UPDATE PLEASE READ NOW: Take2Games has put up fixes for most problems here: http://www.take2games.com/index.p....%20City A patch has been released here: http://www.take2games.com/index.p....patches If the following doesn't solve your problem, send an e-mail to [email protected] if you need official tech support. ---------------------------------------------------------- Problem #1: Textures take too long to load. Solution: Turn frame limiter on. ---------------------------------------------------------- Problem #2: The texture won't load behind the counter in the pizza place. Here is a picture: http://gtavc.gamehorizons.net/images/pizza2.jpg Solution: None as of yet. ---------------------------------------------------------- Problem #3: My game crashes after a certain amount of time. Solution: You probably have overheating issues or possibly something running in the background that is trying to be the window on top of everything. ---------------------------------------------------------- Problem #4: Textures look like this: http://members.lycos.co.uk/leojrgtavc/crashes/crash.jpg Solution: Download the patch located here: English: http://www.take2games.com/support/patches/vicepatch_11.zip German: http://www.take2games.com/support/patches/vicepatch_11_german.zip Also, look here: http://www.take2games.com/index.p....=issues ---------------------------------------------------------- Problem #5: You experience a lockup with the sound still playing every now and then. Solution: For those of know with similar problems (hardlock in video, sound still playing) try disabling custom MP3s for now or take a look at file names, it seems the game dislikes huge filenames for MP3s or ones like this "01 - Artist - Album - Song.mp3" for some reason. ---------------------------------------------------------- Problem #6: The player continually spins and spins and will not stop. EmSixTeen 583
Well good idea, try to stop all the n00biness and work together. I've seen loads of separate threads about bugs etc already
Jordan 20
Exactly. There is no tech support forum so this is the tech support post.
BenMillard 36
Yeah, I'm pinning this because people need a place to find out about the common problems. If you update that first post as new *important* bugs are found out it would be most helpful.
root. 0
The frame limiter doesn't quite solve this. .
@brams 0
for me frame limiter solved it. bug in mission for Malibu mission Driver... the man is falling to water and you cant complete the mission!
1337jman 0
for problem 3. I had gotten into a car and the music from the CD had to load (why isnt it like gta3 ) and I just kept the up arrow pressed down, and I think by pressing the arrow, I overloaded it and it crashes. So if it is loading/pauses, stop pressing keys. maybe that will help.
Leonardo Jr 0
I have a problem with the graphics. click in the link to see the picture: http://members.lycos.co.uk/leojrgtavc/crashes/crash.jpg it drives me f*ckin crazy. What I usually do to stop this is click ESC, and then resume, but I want another solution.
1337jman 0
all I can say is keep frame limiter on well another problem. I have win2k and sb live value and some sounds are not there like the PS2 version, it seems only tommy's voice is heard inside the car. the prostitute doesn't say squat and when I steal a car with a passenger, I do not hear them screaming... I wish they both were heard

gtaplayer356 0
after i keep playing for hours, the sound gets screwed up, i think its an overheating issue though since it wont do it if i quit for a half an hour

spike228 0
i don't have the game yet but i just thought of a very big conflict in the game. i read in another post that if you walk into a store with a gun then you automatically rob them. they duck under the desk and set off the alarm. so what about amunation? how would you buy a gun if after you buy your first gun, the guy ducks under and sets off the alarm and the cops are on your ass. i hope someone understood that. i'm just a bit frustrated because i didn't even get the game yet and i'm hearing about a million issues on the first day of release
HaloBreaker 0
Well you heard wrong. To "invisi-target" a clerk you have to push either "[" or "]" you wont see the target but he'll drop cash and set off the alarm. ~Halo
ghost_master2000 0
I have been having a problem where the video will stop, but the audio keeps playing, and I have to restart my comp the wrong way.
Opius 9
This game really needs a patch released. I'm sure people will put up with bugs like this if it is released a few days earlier. As for all of you, I'm envious of you. Need... Vice... city... PC.... now.....
Hinotori 0
I have been having a problem where the video will stop, but the audio keeps playing, and I have to restart my comp the wrong way. I have the same problem. But there is a point that the game will always freeze. After you start the game, the cutscene goes on, until the chopper lands, and them Tommy walks to the drug dealer, then the masked guys are shown getting ready to attack Tommy. At this point, the game ALWAYS freeze and the voices goes on for some time, then it lock-up the computer. It is no video card driver (I've Catalyst 3.2, many friends have the same driver running ok), DirectX (9.0a), Service Pack (XP SP2) issue. It is not overheating, I play MAFIA for hours. I play MOH for hours... My computer specs: Athlon XP 1900+, ECS K7S5A PRO (Bios updated, chipset is VIA 735), Radeon 9500 PRO, 512 MB DDR 266, Sound Blaster Live! MP3.... And about the hooker talking to you while you drive, I've no problem with that. Are you sure that your audio settings is not more than 2 speakers when you have 2 (sub doesn't count), or that you have other option than Creative Lives EAX selected? Make sure that you have the latest drivers as well. The last thing, make sure that in Windows, your speaker configuration is the same as your real speaker configuration. Rudolf 6
Damn.. that's a small list. I expected a big list o' fixes, since the title said "official fixes".. anyway, heres a topic i created a long time ago, containing many fixes for GTA3. I was hoping it could help fixing Vice. I myself have had many troubles with GTA3, and can completely imaginate your frustrations and anger. I haven't got Vice for Pc myself yet, so i want to make sure i will be able to play it properly. And i thought they would get taught from the past!

And i thought they would get taught from the past! Problem #4: Textures look like this: http://members.lycos.co.uk/leojrgtavc/crashes/crash.jpg Solution: In your video card properties under Antialiasing turn the option to either Off completelly or 2x AA..the problem is with having AA set to "Application Controled". (to access this option right click desktop select properties, click on the display settings tab, select advanced, click on your video card name tab, then click on "performance and settings" in the box to the left) I never had the problem bellow since i got the game and then i started experimenting to see the different performance hits and i seen the black texture rips and blocky crap....that setting was the only thing changed and i confirmed it was the problem by doing it over and over again. chris112 0
I have a problem where my player keeps spinning in circles repeatedly and never stops.. The only time he doesnt spin is when I get into a car. Its not actually the player spinning, its more of the camera.. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? My roomate had the same problem with GTA3 also.. Thanks
radrluv 0
I'm having the same problem as Chris. It seems like a mouse driver conflict, but I sure can't pin down the cause and everything else is working fine. r

Rudolf 6
Those seem like the problems i've seen with GTA3 also. Maybe it would be a good idea to dig up some old topics in the GTA3 troubleshooting forum.
Leonardo Jr 0
' date='May 14 2003,05:02']leonardo i had the same problem. it drove me crazier. glad to say i fixed it.. now do you have a geforce card? Yeah man, I have a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra. I sent an e-mail to Take2Games support and they solved it, but thanks for trying to help ej. Here's what you should do: 1) Right Click on your desktop 2) Click Properties 3) Go to the Settings Tab 4) Click the Advanced Button 5) Then Click the GeForce FX (X) Tab - (X meaning the type of card you have) 6) When the little slide panel pops out click on Peformance and Quality 7) Look at Intellisample, It's the top option 8) Change the slider from QUALITY left to APPLICATION And you are done. And also thanks to Nike23, I just read your post

Hinotori - I had the same prob on a 9700 pro crashing at the same point, I cured it by un-installing Rage 3d tweak - I had probably tweaked something vice city didn't like, un-installing the tweaker probably returned my reg settings back to near(er) ATI default? Leonardi 0
The game plays fine on my system, however I experienced a lockup with the sound still playing every now and then, mainly after getting the Hyman Condo and the Helicopter. It seems to be related with custom MP3 files, for some reason the game does not seem to like a few certain files. For those of know with similar problems (hardlock in video, sound still playing) try disabling custom MP3s for now or take a look at file names, it seems the game dislikes huge filenames for MP3s or ones like this "01 - Artist - Album - Song.mp3" for some reason.
