What do you want to see from rockstar after GTA6?

After GTA6, I hope Rockstar can settle into a regular development rhythm. Maybe they should release just one flagship title per console generation, like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. But I’d really like them to sprinkle in one or two smaller projects in between—anything at all, even linear games set in medieval times or Norse mythology. Waiting seven or eight years for a single release is unacceptable to me as a player. With a team of over 6,000 employees, realistically speaking, if there were leaks claiming Rockstar is working on five games simultaneously, I’d probably believe it—they have the manpower to pull that off.

Hard to take any risk when you are a big company working a decade on a title these days. I certainly don't hope for another Red Dead Redemption (especially not "Redemption", perhaps something like Remedy or anything else instead — but for marketing reasons they will probably not do this..). RDR3 in any case without legendary writer Dan Houser would also be rough, imho.

I hope they go all in on GTA Se7en.

I just don’t see how a Bully 2 wouldn’t be cost effective. It’ll have the novelty of being the only game Rockstar release between GTA/RDR games and is capable of expansion potential ALA GTA Online and would be a breathe of fresh air compared to other open world games while also being rated T. All of this while sticking to a small scope in design compared to not just other Rockstar games but open world games in general yet still is something capable of showing off and playing with new technology like better Player to NPC interactions or something else and imagine Euphoria on a game like Bully. Im failing to see how this is not the goldmine.

I would like a non numerical GTA just like Vice City or San Andreas was. No massive development time. Just reusing assets from GTA VI to make another GTA but set in the past, maybe 90's and in Boston. There doesn't have to be a generational leap much like they did when Vice City came out after GTA III. It was so short the time. 

 

A new GTA period-piece for old-school fans. Doesn't have even have to have multiplayer. OR, a basic GTA IV style multiplayer. Few modes, few races etc. Doesn't need to have that graphical leap. Just new setting, set in the past, just so we can get that new GTA feel. Getting the new GTA feel back in the early GTA days was amazing. Now it's so sparse.  I don't think this can happen though. Why? Because I'm sure Take Two or Rockstar will think it will cannibalize Shark Card sales from GTA VI Online. I'm sure it will just be more profitable to leave GTA VI alone for a few years while they stack sales from Shark Cards. Sad I'm even thinking about it like this but that's the way it is now. 

 

If its not a 'spin-off' GTA I like the medieval idea. I'm really medieval stuff these days. So that would be cool. 

 

I wish they could do a remaster of The Warriors. Haven't been able to play it and I've been dying to.

Red Dead Redemption set in the Medieval or LA Noire 2, was hoping for Bully 2, but I doubt that could ever happen after some many cancelations.

A new Midnight Club game. Need for Speed is pretty much dead after Unbound and Forza Horizon isn't arcady enough for me. The only problem is that, knowing modern Rockstar, they would make it an online focused game with a season pass system like The Crew.

It'd be cool to see Rockstar try their luck at making a 3D fighting game. Something like a competitor to Tekken or Virtua Fighter. They should have the resources to mocap any martial arts they want. I wonder if they could bring back Dennis Opel to use his fighting system he considered implementing for Bully, or at least something like it.

I really want to play it too. Being on Xbox it's impossible for me. Though I do have a PS4 I have read it isn't a great way to play the game? 

 

I'm binging the early games right now like the trilogy, next will be Bully, but the Warriors tops my list. Also would like to play Manhunt 2, uncensored, but when I tried to on pc about 5 years ago the controller support was just not good enough for me. (I personally just cannot play with a keyboard.)

 

As for the next Rockstar game, I DO want a RDR 3, but I would also prefer a new IP. I would love Rockstar to try a sci fi/space opera game, as outside of Mass Effect and Starfield, the rest of the games set in space these days are horror games. I would prefer a Star Wars inspired space opera with Rockstar's usual satire, intense visual detail and open world exploration.

Yeah, that would be just amazing.

 

I think the closest thing to that and I'm being very loose here, is Cyberpunk. Obviously it's not space-opera but Cyberpunk feels like a game Rockstar would make if they went and did some future sci-fi.

I'm looking forward to playing Cyberpunk lol. I'm still on the old consoles and I haven't wanted to start it because I know the DLC improves the game substantially but unfortunately that DLC is not available on the older consoles.  

 

I will likely play it the month or two before GTA VI's release when I get a console, I'm saving the pennies right now. 

 

Can't wait to play Starfield, too. But I have played a bunch of hours of it on cloud gaming; I like it, but I found the story really lacking. 

 

But yes, I really want to see what Rockstar would do with any kind of Sci-Fi setting; I would particularly be interested in hearing what kind of futuristic satire they would do, perhaps tapping into the "Space Age" of the 60's/70's for jokes, and of course all the movies from the late 70's.  I imagine something like a Blade Runner, something where you perhaps play as a bounty hunter in dystopian Earth cities but with also some space exploration.

The base game is brilliant, IMO. It always was but it since got many improvements to make the game, more objectively good. So, you've all that to look forward to! It's such an amazing world. The attention to detail is phenomenal. There are many stories that live in the environment - such as finding a dead body in an alleyway and then you reading what was on their datapad and finding out how they met their demise. Brilliant, dark and wonderful world building. 

 

Good luck on your saving. I know it's hard man but you'll do it and the payoff will be so worth it!

 

As for Starfield, I love it. The main story is a bit lacking. It's kind of typical trope space stuff (finding artifacts) but there are some golden side-quests like the mission First Contact where you find a bunch of frontier explorers from Earth that are stranded. I won't say any more but there's great choices involved. 

 

The new Naughty Dog IP looks very interesting. 

 

I took a chance on Star Wars: Outlaws but I finding lacking. I will give it another go because I know people in the SW Reddit that they say it grew on them. And it's the type of game I crave. 

 

If you've not heard, Exodus is something to look forward to. It's created by ex BioWare devs. 

 

 

On topic, your idea of what Rockstar could make in the space-ex/space-opera space would be very intriguing.

My dream for R* at this point is to see them do something that's not modern day or near modern day, to see what their artists and designers could cook up in the distant past or future, be it hard fantasy, medieval, sci-fi, whatever. It's one of the big "what if's" for me in the industry, what a R* game in one of those settings would look and play like.

 

If they don't go that route then the Agent pitch still sounds awesome, Max Payne like shooting controls, R*'s set piece design... could be a lot of fun.

 

But generally speaking a new IP from them is the top of my list. I wanna see them tackle something new, it's time I think.

I'd absolutely love something medieval from R*. Hell, they could lean into the whole Monty Python and the Holy Grail trope if they wanted to and still maintain dark humour.

 

I think the closest we have to that is KCD2, and that almost hits the spot in all departments for me, minus the semi-convoluted melee system, something Rockstar would need to work on as well.
