Red Dead Redemption 2 Current-Gen (+GTAIV, but unlikely) - Possible current gen ports?

Here's hoping the sound mixing isn't butchered to all hell like it is in E&E (particularly on PC). I'm also already dreading the possibility of PS5/Series X|S getting some form of ray tracing that R* won't bother bringing to PC for at least 3 years...

That said, as much as I love RDR2, I'm kind of disappointed that a IV rerelease seems to be off the cards for the foreseeable future (unless this new version of RDR2 winds up being a free upgrade for existing owners a la PC Enhanced, but I'm sure a Switch 2 version would still count as a new iteration of an already-released title from T2's perspective). With VI being the sole focus of 2026, and 2027 being dedicated to its PC release (assuming everything goes perfectly and the console versions aren't pushed back to Fall 2026), then I don't think we're seeing a new version of IV until 2028 at the absolute earliest. And that's not even factoring in Remedy's Max Payne remakes.

EDIT: On a more upbeat note, the thing that excites me the most about a native 9th Gen version of RDR2 (aside from finally being able to run the game at a higher frame rate on consoles) is that PlayStation users will no longer have to deal with that god-awful 1920x2160 checkerboarding that the current version uses on PS4 Pro/PS5! I kid you not, I ended up setting my Pro to 1080p around 2/3 of the way through my first playthrough, it was that bad; even FSR 1 looks more pleasing than whatever R* went with in 2018.

Yes, I was lucky to avoid the checkerboarding by playing it at full 4K on Xbox X. I don't even quite understand why the PS4, or at least the Pro, couldn't handle it at full 4K, and why it hasn't at least been updated for current gen consoles. I love this game and I wish Rockstar would give some love back our way.

From what I remember, the Xbox One X's GPU was more powerful than the one in the PS4 Pro. I still think it would have been feasible to go for a higher resolution than 1080p without checkerboarding on the Pro, though; surely something around 1440p (give or take) would have been possible and fared better than R*'s sh*tty checkerboarding implementation (in comparison, I remember both Guerilla's and Insomniac's implementations being quite good for the time).

I also wonder if HDR will be improved in any meaningful way. Game mode is a noticeable improvement over the washed out, dim presentation of the original "Cinematic" mode; but it's still not perfect, IIRC.

why porting a game that is already playable on all machines they will never bring back GTA IV... this game will never get the respect it deserves and young players will never know the magic of this game... sometimes I don't understand Rockstar (if it's really RDR2)

Nate suggested that it's only an update on PS5 and Series S | X, which was desperately needed given that RDR2 is still stuck at 1800p30 on PS5 and 4K30 (Xbox Series X) / 1080p30 (Xbox Series S). The new port would be only on Switch 2.

Even a simple port like RDR1 required some time and the work with it ended just recently with the PC release in late 2024. GTA IV is surely getting the port treatment, they know very well that people want it and it seems only logical that the same people who worked on RDR1 will tackle GTA IV next. It's just going to require some time, it will most likely land after GTA VI. I wouldn't be surprised if they're aiming at its 19th or 20th anniversary.

GTA IV on Switch and ps5 this Sept or Oct perhaps, RDR 1's 10th birthday was in 2020, the game was ported to switch in 2026 and 2024 pc, I believe they will do something with RDR 2 on pc.

I always did wondered though how an open world remake of 2004 Red Dead Revolver will be like, kinda played the one in pcsx2 that is ps2 version and just really didn't went well with me.

At the very least a port of IV will happen. It's a when not an if.

do yall think rockstar will add red dead online to the switch 2? or just strictly story mode like rdr1?

My guess is any Switch 2 ports for IV, RDR2 or V will be single player only. I would expect the same for an IV remaster, if that ever happens.

I agree, I think a Switch 2 port of GTA5 still is a couple of years away from us more or less. I can only see it happening after VI releases next year, which would mean 2027 for GTA5 on Switch 2.

Man, when I originally played RDR2, it was on a base PS4. I knew the checkerboard rendering was pretty bad, but once I got a PS5—my god—I couldn’t believe they actually thought that blurry mess was a good idea ( still a stunning game ). Really hoping that’s the first thing they fix in the PS5 update.

The game is amazing, but I was very disappointed with the blur on my PS4 Pro and new 4K monitor. Definitely looking forward to the PS5 version on my PS5 Pro!

Upon playing BOTW on my Switch 2 for the past few days (it's great to finally have the game running at 60FPS and a higher resolution without resorting to emulation), I've realized that the only way to make RDR2's HDR worse is if you tried to use the original "Cinematic Mode" on the Switch 2's display (a somewhat dim LCD with no local dimming, so HDR is may as well not exist on it). As nice as it is to have a larger, 1080p VRR screen, I'm already starting to miss the OLED display on my Switch 1.

I played the game first on Xbox S, now that was rough lol. 864P. It made the prologue in the blizzard really hard to get through it. Once I got to Horseshoe, I finally saw how vibrant the game was, but it was still so blurry.

IF GTA V will come to Switch 2 after 6, when will 6 come to it?

Just like in the clip, Rob says something interesting is coming - I assume he means some ComicCon or some other event, I don't think he has any idea about any project as far as the game is concerned.

Never impossible he's referring to something R* related, but I think the chances are slim here. The certainty on when it's getting revealed especially points towards it being unrelated to R*.

I mean I'd like to be wrong but I've seen this stuff before a whole bunch of times from video game VA's, including from the RDR cast, and it ends up being a mile away from what people think it is.

It's often some kind of event yea, or the reveal of a unrelated project.

I still think we're only getting the PS4/PS5 and Switch 1 ports of GTA4 this year, then next year all we're going to get is VI, with the PS5, XS and Switch 2 versions of RDR2 only being a thing in 2027.

This is my speculation anyway.

Imo its already 100% confirmed we are getting RDR2 this year

NateTheHate confirmed it, and his track record is just so f*cking great...

Hate who?

NateTheHate is one of the most prominent leakers right now and his track record is Jason Schreier / Tom Henderson tier over the past year or two.

The guy hasn't missed, even when people have doubted it him multiple times over some stuff.

Someone Somehwere

I guarantee Rob is probably talking about a con, fan event of some sort or something else completely unrelated to any possible remaster from Rockstar. It's pretty silly that people heard him say that and immediately thought he was talking about a remaster of which he would probably have zero knowledge of and even if he did he probably wouldn't blatantly tease it like this.

Yeah, like Jason said - Nate is legit as hell.

We are finally getting next-gen upgrade to RDR2 this year.

What about GTA4?
