Welcome to The Official Racing Games Lounge!

The idea for this topic came from the fact that the gaming section of GTAForums isn't as visited as other sections, and scattering the members around specific topics for each specific racing game can leave said topics abandoned for days if not longer, reason why I want to unite us all in here, not that I have anything against each game having its topic of course, don't get me wrong.

I was thinking about creating something like this for some time already, a place for us to discuss everything related to racing games, news, analysis, comparisons, what one game does better and worse than another, literally anything about them.

Wheter you play GTA (the vehicle/racing aspects of it), Need for Speed, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Forza, Gran Turismo or any other racing game, you can feel right at home in here!

This is a great idea to have a general racing games thread since Gran Turismo and Forza their own dedicated ones.

It’s probably very clear by now, but racing is one of my favourite genres in gaming.

It goes all the way back to when I first played Sega Rally, NFS (On PC) etc back in the 90s.

With regards to upcoming racing games a couple have caught my eye on the PS store. Rennsport and Endurance Motorsport Series. Then of course there’s the annual ones like MotoGP, F1 and so on.

I've just started playing Forza 5. I suck major ass at the game and can't drive properly in manual for the life of me. But it's been fun and certainly a different experience from the usual open world games I play.

I've been using the Chevrolet Corvette which they gave as a starter car for almost the entire time lol. Thanks to @Dock I unlocked the Benevenuto Lamborghini, now that's my default car.

I am not good at cross country racing, even with offroad vehicles. I'm guaranteed to miss a checkpoint or two in those.

I also need to get better at turning at sharp bends, it's embarrassing fr. I'll never be a pro driver but I have enjoyed whatever I have played of Forza 5. For a high intensity racing game, it's a relaxed experience to play

I'll make a solid racist out of you yet :shillkek:

OT: I'm just average at best at racing games, but they're super fun to play :D I mostly just love spec'ing out cars and learning about them. I've spent an embarrassing amount of time curating my garages in GTA, Forza, GT7, and Assetto lol

I have a gripe with the F1 series, and specifically its co-op mode: I wish it supported more players. Going through a season in co-op is really fun, but being limited to just 2 players is laaaame.

Wishlist tier posting: I wish Polyphony would consider making an open world Gran Turismo. I love the presentation of their games, and GT7 (despite not having a good single player career mode) is still easily one of my most favorite racing games thanks to Polyphony's attention to detail. An open world title from them would be amazing imo.

Road Rash was amazing.

The bike races in TLAD always reminded me of Road Rash lol.

Got the racing guide line on?

Aint no shame using them in Forza, especially in Horizon IMO.

Yeah I've had it on from the start. I just learnt that the difference in colours even tells you when to brake and such. Interesting, never paid attention to that lol.

I'll never be anything close to an expert but my main aim is to race with friends and play something different from the usual open world games, so in that regard it's already a decent if still costly purchase.

I'd ripped the PS1 version's introduction video straight from the disc a while ago if you wanna relive some memories :beerhat:

Yea lol. It's not 100% accurate, once you get more experienced with the game, the physics and the cars you're driving you can brake later than it suggests, find faster lines etc, but it's a good guide. I've always left it on in Horizon cause the open world nature means the track isn't as telegraphed as it is in a pure track racer, and it's especially useful in off-road races where the track isn't always obvious at all.

Anyone play Forza Horizon 5?

Yes.

I’m playing it on PS5 atm. To be honest it’s not my overall favourite of the series (that would be FH3), but it’s still a really cool game.

It’s just weird seeing my Xbox gamertag on a PlayStation though lol.

Yeah, am just getting into the game. If you play, we can co-op in game some time.

If you're keen on some co-op sessions, we can play sometime. Though I must say I don't play too often and am likely the worst racer here on GTAF by a margin

I got much better as soon as I turned off racing lines. I don't think you ever learn or improve with racing lines, in my personal experience. Because you begin to react an instruction. There's a buffer between you and the corner and that's the racing line. Remove it, go slower. And learn how to judge a bend by how bendy it is. My advice for racing is stop trying to win. Just focus on taking each bend/corner the best you can. Winning will come naturally after that.

I play fully manual. I've all assists turned off. That way you earn a lot of money. I'm usually piss-poor at games but driving, I'm OK.

If anyone wants have a bop online, or even just to compare stats or have more familiar Drivitar opponents was looking to get back into Horizon. I haven't played in a year or more.

I think if you learn how to utilise the racing lines it's good, they're not the quickest line but useful if you don't know the tracks well, and I consider them essential in some of the off road stuf cause I'm f*cked if I know where the track is on those on some of the tracks.

Manual will make you quicker cause there will be no bouncing of the red line or having auto "glitch" out and be in the wrong gear, you'll also be able to do higher gear pulls out of corners which for some cars is useful. Traction/ABS are the other two big ones, for fun traction off is best but ABS off is an acquired taste. I've tried it and it's very much for people who want a more sim like experience cause it requires an extra degree of control that no other assist does. I chill in Horizon so I leave ABS on my self.

But the main thing to get fast to compete in the highest difficulties is car choice (a good launch is essential), using racing lines and learning how and when to abuse the AI, going on the inside and using them as a corner will be faster for you and slow them down a lot, essential in Horizon especially on the highest difficulties in some events/modes cause the AI straight up cheat lol. I'd have to play blocker in the weekly trials before they nerfed the AI in those to ensure my team won cause unless you were in some OP car you had no chance.

horizon 5 is pretty fun, but yea i noticed that some races get  reallyyy tough if you don't brake well enough in the beginning of the race, it's kinda ridiculous how hard the bots become, going back to the standard difficulty because anything above that is kinda nuts

The launch speed of your car is hugely important in FH5, it's one of the reasons why 4WD is generally considered OP. A fast launch can get you in first by the first corner and defending first against AI is a lot easier than chasing fastest AI in the race. So you'd get a great launch and either get into 1st by the first corner or you'd go on the inside and use them as a wall in a corner to basically ram your way into 1st. Cheesy? Yes, but the car in 1st in Forza straight up cheats on the highest difficulties, so unless you have mad skills (and even then that might not be enough) or a particularly OP car you can really struggle to win vs the hardest AI.

If you're not a tuner I'd also have a look at uploaded tuning profiles if you're really struggling as well, they're easy to install and will make a huge difference. It's very important on the higher difficulties that your car is the best it can be in it's class.

I was so happy to see Fujimi Kaido return to Forza with the newest update! It is such a great track to carve up in almost any car. I spent way too many hours building cars and running them on Fujimi Kaido during the FM4 days. Wouldn't it be such a treat to have Horizon 6 in Japan? The car culture there is just spectacular.

Fujimi Kaido sure is a challenging circuit.  I raced around it this morning and found it difficult to get a clean lap.

I really hope FH6 is in Japan too. Please no more Europe or America. It’s been done to death.

Did you enjoy FH3?  A game that was set in your country.

It’s my favourite Horizon actually.😉

I still enjoy the others, but like FH3 it would be nice to get a non-European or American setting again.

I’ve heard that FH6 might be set in Germany with Japan as a DLC. I hope that isn’t the case, but we’ll see.

The best thing about FH3 is you drive on the left, like we do.

Same in Japan, so Japan for FH6.

Location isn't something I really care about, I just hope for a much larger map (as I always do 😅) which I doubt I'll get. Beyond that hopefully some tweaks to the formula to freshen it up a bit.

But yea location wise I'd be fine with where ever honestly. Japan could be cool with the verticality, it would be really interesting to see how they tackle Horizon's go anywhere nature when the terrain doesn't really support it easily. I do think somewhere in Scandinavia could be cool as well.

In fact I think anywhere where we have real differences in seasons would be what I want.

Agent Edward

I didn't even pay attention to this topic last week, as soon as I created it Rockstar threw GTA6 news on both sides of our faces.

But now that things have calmed down for a few months ahead, I'll frequent this section more often again lol.

About the most recent discussion regarding FH locations, Australia still is the best one for now, FH6 should take place either in Japan or... I don't know... Cuba?

It's always America-Europe America-Europe America-Europe with these games, ffs...

Take us to the Caribbean or something.

I wouldn't mind a Forza Horizon game set in your country.
