Which would you prefer Rockstar would do?  A remake of RDR1 with updated graphics, and better story connections with RDR2 would be pretty sweet.  But also a Remaster of RDR 2 with all the cut content, being able to fill all the map icons legit, and maybe even doing the Blackwater heist sounds cool too

neither i would rather have a story dlc for rdr2. or have rockstar focus on the next red dead game. I'm getting so annoyed of all these remasters and remakes. sure a few of them are okay to have. but I'm more interested in new stuff. I'm getting annoyed every year about this or that remake. rdr2 doesn't need a remaster. and while it would be cool to see the rdr1 story in rdr2s graphics. it would just be the same story and missions we have been playing for a decade and a half.

The best of both worlds for me would have been the following:

Finish Mexico in RDR 2 and remake RDR 1 in RDR 2’s engine, then a story mode dlc where we play as Dutch, Bill and Javier from the end of Ch6 to the point where we see them in RDR 1. Then you have a complete story of the gang in one game.

Yes this is a proper cake and eat it wish list but it would be great.

If i had to choose, I'd say a remake of red dead redemption similar in scope to the last of us part 1 or metal gear solid delta, keep all the cutscenes, audio, and missions/content, but updated in the newer version of rage. To be completely honest rdr2 does not need a remaster at all. Perhaps a 60fps mode or a slight graphical touch up, but beyond that nothing is required. Which is a testament to how well crafted a rockstar title is, rdr2 could legitimately pass for a 2025 title in most areas.

I think that the recent re-release of RDR1 on new platforms means that an actual remaster of it is a long way off. And I completely agree with those saying that RDR2 doesn't need a remaster. It stands up now just as much as it did upon release.

Rockstar seem to be dipping further back for their "remasters". We had the GTA III trilogy getting their definitive editions a few years back and there's a team currently working on Max Payne so they currently seem to be looking at the early to mid 2000s era. So where Red Dead is concerned, Revolver might be on their agenda. Personally, I'm hoping for a new release of Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.
