Legacy websites

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I think it's well-known that some user recreated most of the classic websites for GTA in HTML5 for the sake of preservation, given that Flash was discontinued and Rockstar didn't seem to care to preserve them.

As far as I remember, until very recently the Wayback Machine (Internet Archive) was useless to revisit them. However, at some moment in the few past months, that changed. Now even the classic and super appreciated GTAIV website can be completely explored through it!

Or the memorable website for the GTA franchise, with release dates and covers for every entry:

Or the main page for the company site in the times before GTAIII! ("Selling dreams at knock down prices!")

However, it seems that while gaining some things, we lost other ones.

It came to my attention that the LA Noire site was completely removed in the very last few months. It wasn't even the original site from ~2011, but a complete reimagination that they launched for the 2017 remaster. I just visited it in 2023 (I remember commenting it to my wife, who loved some details in there) and now it's gone!

And I can't manage to visit it through the Wayback Machine because it redirects to the "select age" page, and it's impossible to get passed from there. Same for the Red Dead Redemption legacy site.

The objective for this post is to gather the passionate community to try to solve these issues, find workarounds and eventually perhaps making some sort of comprehensive digital library or knowledge of how to access every possible page from the rich past in Rockstar's history.
