One can never forget the time they took down a save game file with 65% completion.

Imagine if it was 100%, dude would become teapot's cell mate.

Yall will go back to loving R* and T2 soon

I sure hope so, because for now all we're seeing is a extremely long VI news drought, GTA5 being released for PC a second time and mods being taken down for no reason that could hurt their income.

So yeah, I sure hope they can make us love them again eventually, in fact it's one of my biggest wishes when I wake up every morning, no sarcasm.

Rockstar is a strange company. They are an amazing developer, but it feels like they are really anti-social. You don't really get the same fan interaction that you do with other  prestigious developers like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Capcom etc. etc.

their almost overtly too secretive, like Nintendo

I think that in 2017 Take Two ordered the end of a mod that would bring the RDR1 map to GTA 5 claiming that it would interfere with a future remaster. So, since you say that something like what happened with the Liberty City mod is an indication of a remaster, since 2017 T2 were planning to release RDR1 on PC? 🤔🤔

(And why did it take so long?)

I think the saddest part about this is that the people that made this wasted years working on it.

they knew t2 would shut them down, they always do if you reuse assets from other rockstar games

anyway, the mod is out there on torrent, nothing has been lost

The mod is out there, the community already has it and T2 can't do anything about it. The legacy of those who created it will remain and the community will surely make use of it.

Hopefully one day Rockstar will give us a remaster of IV, the fact that they removed this mod so quickly may indicate that they are already working on it.

Im genuinely doubtful of anything IV related coming out anytime soon. VI is right around the corner and they’re all hands on deck with getting it out the door. A IV remaster is kind of redundant at this point because it would be completely overshadowed by VI and I sincerely doubt they’d put in the time and effort to respectfully bring it up to modern era standards.

It sucks that this is T2's stance on stuff, but it's at the point that I question why anyone tries stuff specifically like map ports. It is on the record as a no go for Take-Two, and they've proven it multiple times by putting a stop to it. As soon as I saw that latest attempt doing the rounds I said it in a Discord, it will be taken down because again, it is publicly speaking against T2/R* ToS for modding.

Doesn't really change the outcome but just FYI there seems to be more to it than an actual aggressive DMCA takedown, which it wasn't, but rather there's some sort of ongoing conversation between them and R*, as one of the mod team members even told people to not exaggerate and wait for the situation to unravel.

I don’t understand why rockstar doesn’t scoop these guys up and officially hire them as part of the rockstar team. Years and years of talented passionate modders have been crushed under take 2/R*s feet. Even FiveM was only bought out because they couldn’t compete with it, not because they cared or believed in it.

...yeah no. Their stance on certain mods sucks but this has already been disproven and argued against a million times lol.

I mean, how is everyone taking the situation at face value assuming the worst? The facts are Rockstar contacted them to take the mod down and then the mod was taken down. A “friendly” takedown or not doesn’t really make all that much of a difference when the results are the same.

Proof? Because I’ve only ever seen and heard that was the true narrative behind the acquisition.

I think it’s more to do with New Austin and West Elizabeth being set to appear in RDR2.

I suspect the decision to port the original to PS/Switch/PC was a much more recent one, likely made in 2019-2020, around the time (I don’t remember the specific date) Zelnick publicly stated the desire for more consistent releases from R*. Hence, the rereleases to “make up” for the long gaps between new entries (and possibly a factor in why the PC port came out a year after the console versions).

Yeah...

"Could you please get rid of this work you've been doing for more than 7* years?"

Doesn't really sound that friendly to me, even saying it in a nice way.

I mean, I get it, no one wants to be in the bad side of Take-Two/Rockstar, but everyone here knows what is going on.

It wasnt always like that either. Rockstar leads used to do a lot of interviews and discuss how the sausage was made back in the 00s.

I hope that Rockstar don't go after the GTA Stars and Stripes team as well, that one is even more impressive, it basically realizes Leslie Benzies' former idea of having the entire USA in a GTA game, but in GTA San Andreas, not GTA5.

It's basically a new version of GTA Underground, only even more ambitious.

It's mid-January already. If we are assuming that VI will come out at the end of the October, we are already 5% of the way there.

That’s it we keep the spirits up here!!! Great man :cookie:

"Rockstar Games are working hard on something truly special. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release Fall 2025. We will leave any further announcements to Rockstar Games themselves." – Strauss Zelnick (February 6th, 2025).
