Classic T2 behavior
This is incomprehensible, if anything is at work idk GTA4 remake remaster port or is it a GTA VII in fcking Liberty City, this mod does nothing wrong for R* and T2

KickSmacks

What could be happening, is that they delay GTA 6, but give us a GTA IV port in the meantime, cause there is literally no reason why they took down the preservation project. In addition, this is similar to what happened before the definitive edition, where rockstar took down hd mods of 3, VC, and SA.

(This is pure speculation)

do yall think GTA 6 will be out in time for my dad to get home from the store?

Disappointing, but not surprising. Obviously in this case, I could see them having intentions to have D11 port IV to PlayStation and Switch and/or bring LC to GTAO's successor at some point, but these takedowns haven't always been indicative of an upcoming release that a particular mod could "get in the way of" (I somewhat understand re3, even if I was against the legal action taken, but do you really think R* ever had any interest in rereleasing GTA Advance?).

I think the most likely explanation here is that the Preservation Project had too much attention drawn to it (which was sadly inevitable), and that R* and T2 like to follow Nintendo's example of going after anything and anything that could potentially "harm" their IPs, no matter how insignificant it may be. I know I'm a broken record about this, but remember that they were petty enough to go after a f*cking save file...

EDIT: disregard this post (for now...). I did not see @TheHoover69's quote from the mod team

EDIT 2: Sorry if I briefly got anyone’s hopes up. Turns out it was R*/T2 on their disgusting anti-SP modding crusade. :cringekek:

I think GTA4 port is in works by D11, but not sure if it releases before or after VI, I would say after

Even if there's a GTA4 port coming to PS4/PS5 and Switch this mod won't hurt its sales one bit.

If anything the mod renewed interest in IV.

It wasn't taken down by Take-Two. It's temporarily unavailable as the World Travel team are looking for alternative file hosting for the mod, per this pinned comment from the guy who made the mod's trailer for the team.

You can find the pinned comment on the official trailer video for the mod here.

That was something else. Apparently, they said it on their discord channel that Rockstar contacted them to take it down.

Are we absolutely sure? How long ago was that? I don't see a single a GTA Youtuber talking about it all unless they just now announced that on their discord.

Hey I found this pinned comment from YouTube concerning the Liberty City mod from about 3 days ago. Seems like it wasn't taken down by Take-Two or R*

They blacklisted the words "download", "link", "mirror", "torrent", and "dl" on their server, and sharing files and unofficial links now results in a 24-hour timeout - probably for a reason. Also this.

That news is alredy a week old. Just go see the modding teams Discord or Twitter(X). They've announced that they were directly approached by Rockstar, and “agreed” to permanently takedown download links and discontinue the entire project.

Yes, Rockstar didn't “force” them to take it down, but it's easy to imagine that they simply gave the team a choice of “stop now and we'll leave you as be” or “We're gonna sew your a** to the ground”.

Lol, nevermind. you can revert your post back to what it originally said. It looks like R* had a hand in it going down after all.

That was to be expected for a project like this, especially nowadays. In fact, it took longer than I thought for T2 to shut it down.

Can this be a sign of them having any plans for LC be included in VI in the future? Or this is too much imagination

The GTA4 Liberty City is 17 years old by now, if it ever returns in VI it should be remade from the ground up.

So yeah, this takedown is useless.

i really thought this was a cockstar move... unless it's mostly the Take2 goons forcing this.. cockstar most likely wanted it down regardless

i hope it'll always stay up somewhere so it can be downloaded and enjoyed in singleplayer

Listen I hate that they still do this in 2025, but going the "Cockstar" route is best left in 2012 cause it's just cringe :sadkek: Pretty sure T2 calls the IP shots, but at the end of the day both companies' executives care about IP so... If this is anything like the GTA Trilogy mod takedowns maybe it does mean they want to re-release IV at some point, which tbh is predictable as it's not on PS4/5.

I can't say I'm surprised about the takedown but it's lame, that it is.

I'll be more upset if they take down the GTA III Dreamcast port because surely there's 0 money being lost there, as in, literally zero. It's not like they're still launching games there :kekw:

Christmas in the way. It was likely deliberate that they launched the mod over the holidays.

Paper Mario

sure, and we can all eventually deal with it. it just sucks and goes to show that they don't care all that much. and they're not pre-serving sh*t. i don't believe one bit rockstar will make an IV remaster or whatever. And if they did, possible have it done poorly like the defective edition..

Having just come off Kingdom Come: Deliverance (absolutely GOATed game by the way, check it out if you love medieval history!) I hope if/when there is romance related stuff that it isn't essentially just a side quest. It is always jarring when you go through hours of effort and then hit the final part of the romance subplot and the game doesn't acknowledge it after that point.

After today, I’m expecting that to also be taken down sooner than later, in all honestly; especially since it’s using re3 as a base, IIRC. True, a Dreamcast port isn’t cannibalizing sales of the Trilogy in any way (it would be delusional to believe otherwise), but that never stopped work on the other non-PC conversions of the re projects (Vita/3DS/Wii U/etc.) from being halted, in addition to the Android-to-Vita port of SA, which came out around the same time. R*/T2 have also gone after less significant things (that have seemingly nothing to do with upcoming/unannounced rereleases), as I’ve mentioned earlier.

Rockstar taking down free great project that would push modders and FiveM scene to create something beautiful in there - meanwhile this two rogue map sellers on FiveM doing their own remasters for astronomous money (120$) stealing from both FiveM interior creators (they include 30+ paid maps they just blatantly stole) and Rockstar by using IVs map, yet they've been safe from T2 for years.

One can never forget the time they took down a save game file with 65% completion.

Anyone here (since we're just killing time here), has any ideas or heard any reason about why R* went from IV (Liberty City),

to V (part of San Andreas) and why did they skip VC?

cause it was on PS2 (is it called 3d era?) -> GTA III (LV), VC, SA.

Sometimes I’m glad that the leaks of VI happened to them, when they do something won’t hurt them a bit.
