You cleary haven't been around in the last 12 years to see how GTA5 and RDR2's marketing were handled, have you?

 

You can argue that GTA became so big that VI don't need marketing, sure, but don't need doesn't mean won't have.

 

Also, pre-order sales are important, they bring in a train load of money before the game's release, and Take-Two/Rockstar need a exact release date for this.

Unless they publicly announce a delay, there's absolutely zero chance we go to September without any news if that's what you are implying...

VI isn't getting news until at least October. The voices in my head, who I have close connections with, assure me that's when Rockstar plans to announce a delay to 2027 to allow a simultaneous Switch 2 release.

So Take Two is fine with a week between BL4 and Mafia news. I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same between next week and the following week with GTA VI. I'm fully onboard with news the week of the call now.

It's a good point that may well be true; GTA as a brand is so big and GTA VI is so anticipated that it likely doesn't need the marketing GTA V had. Rockstar may be able to save some money by spending less on a "smaller" marketing campaign. But... GTA doesn't get the sales it gets by not having any marketing. That's how you ensure everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY knows about the game and you maximise sales.

This is unrealistic for something like GTA VI and you know it.

 

It doesn't need months and months of marketing but it would never shadow drop.

The thought process I've seen a lot of people have is that VI would overshadow the trailer for Mafia. But clearly they aren't worried of Mafia overshadowing BL4. Different genres in play here obviously but I think this sets a more comfortable precedent.

Take-Two wanting to bring out all their guns* before the May conference is not unrealistic at all so... we could be looking at a light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe.

ah yea, i think the mafia trailer can be on May 8, and on May 9, rockstar can announce trailer 2 on Friday with a date of Tuesday, May 13, just like it was with trailer 1, nothing will happen to the mafia in the end...

Finally, I think we'll finally find out something
Even if it's not a trailer but maybe box art or some artwork, I'll be happy
But I think the release date has to be announced by the time of the conference...

That's just my hunch

Plus, Strauss said that VI's marketing will be everywhere, online, on the streets, billboards... and said marketing has to start eventually, don't it? We're literally less than 6 months away from its release, almost 5 now, when will be close enough for Take-Two/Rockstar?

 

They want the hype, they want the money from its pre-orders, hell... they even want players to log in GTAO one last time to partake in some event related to VI, and said GTAO event will be part of the June/July update, if Rockstar don't start VI's marketing before said update dataminers will find it and ruin everything.

 

You see everything line up now? Specially with Borderlands 4 releasing sooner to stay away from VI's release on October 24, 31 or whatever?

exactly, people vouching for aug/sept as the beginning of marketing for VI fail to account for the fact that physical marketing requires longer gestation time.

I’ll have to try not to get overwhelmed on the first playthrough this time. That was my mistake when RDR2 came out, where I tried to experience everything. Gotta take it as it comes this time. Do sidequests if and when I feel like it, and not force myself. In general I will have to play calmly, and not spam story missions one after the other, I think. Staying present etc.

It's just like I said earlier, some people weren't around during GTA5 and RDR2's marketing periods, they don't know how much of a big deal they were back in the day.

 

We may get the date of when VI's marketing will start wrong, but never the magnitude of it, plus, it's like I said before, we're in the 5-6 months away from release period, there ain't much room to get things wrong anymore, reason why even Tom Henderson said that we may get news about it sometime in the next two weeks... to the surprise of no one.
